Altiplano, Volor Flex’s effervescent collab with fellow Russian producer and good friend Encode, is yet another dateless - albeit state-of-the-art - immersion into the polyrhythmic, dense, visceral compositions that this prolific artist is constantly fine-tuning somewhere in the steppe of the Ural Mountains.

There’s a lot of synced up emotional comfort and tension happening on both sides of the release, balanced-out, as ever, by artfully crafted elements of structure and style. Among them, the everpresent UK garage signature, the noise-drenched soundscapes, the sharp snares, the skittering beats, the melancholy vocals (especially on Altiplano, which easily competes with You In Me or Fake Love in unforgettableness), plus those entrancing moments of fervor followed by profound relief that Volor is such a master of.

The main track and subsequently the EP were named after the highest and largest plateau in South America, and that’s how exalted and wide-reaching this music should feel. Both inner-city and otherwordly, both London and Syktyvkar, the 7-track, two-sided EP is going deep to get that right, raw vibe. The 12” comes with a wonderfully exciting digital perk, a sweet and soulful bonus track titled Avia.

As one the most important tastemakers Europe has to offer, and affiliated with Brownswood Recordings, Blue Note, !K7 Records, Jazzy Sport in Japan and the world famous Do-Over parties from Los Angeles, this bearded early riser is consistently a couple steps ahead of your average early adopter.  He doesn't wait for the next thing to land on his lap, he actively seeks it out, therefore just take a peek at his playlists on Belgium's foremost national radio station Studio Brussel which received compliments from Rough Trade Shops, Gilles Peterson, featured on MTV Hive and is one of Okayplayer's favorite selectors.  However, don't assume that he's only working futuristic angles - no sir.  Firmly rooted in jazz and hip hop, he sharpened his digging sensibility working at the now legendary Music Mania record store in hometown Brussels.  His passion for jazz resulted in a remix album for Blue Note which was well received by the community.  LeFtO is forever moving forwards but always got an ear in the past.  Famed for his gloriously eclectic dj sets, he switches effortlessly between hip hop, funk breaks, neck-snapping beats, future bass, house and techno, south-american influences, bruk riddims and some wild african rhythms.  He's not only a deejay and producer but also curates his own stage at the Dour Festival and his own nights in the Belgian city Gent in collaboration with local event organisation Democrazy.  World renowned, LeFtO regularly blesses sound systems from Tokyo to Seoul, Singapore to New York, Kazakhstan to Germany, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The travel resulted in a compilation on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings with partner in crime DJ Simbad.  In 2012 he released two compilations, one for American brand 101Apparel and the other one for Universal Music.

Justin from Invisible Conga People lived in Japan for five years and formed this group with three Japanese friends. They recorded an album in summer 2001 with DFA but the group disbanded shortly thereafter and the record was never released.

In the same way ICP seamlessly blends vintage synth and Krautrock with modern electronic elements to create its own hypnotic, psychedelic sound, We Acediasts took the angular bombast of no wave and wove in the expansive, arching elements of Sonic Youth, P.I.L. and even This Heat (and at times, even some of the casualness of the Fall) to make a very savvy and effective sound of their own.

Following acclaimed excursions on Hypercolour (‘Needs You EP’) and Will Saul’s Aus Music (‘Child EP’) last year, George FitzGerald is preparing to make his return to his Hotflush home for the first time since 2011. Premiering in FitzGerald’s debut Radio 1 Essential Mix last month as part of the ‘2013’s Future Stars’ series, ‘Thinking Of You’ is scheduled to drop as a Beaport exclusive on 18th March, with full physical release and accompanying tracks to follow in May.
 
Having displayed his innate understanding of how to craft a musical narrative with the Essential Mix, ‘Thinking Of You’ turns to the darker realms of the dance floor imbued with the same kind of precision-tooled grooves, nuanced melodic touch and emotive shades that have garnered him such praise in the past.
 
The last twelve months have been extremely busy for FitzGerald as he continues to capture the attention of industry heads and fans alike with his refined and emotive homegrown club music. Releasing music on his regular home Hotflush, as well as Will Saul’s Aus Music imprint and the acclaimed Hypercolour stable, not to mention his own burgeoning ManMakeMusic imprint, FitzGerald's flourishing discography continues to grow steadily but impeccably.
