Experimental producer, composer and vocalist Leifur James announces the release of his third album ‘Magic Seeds’ via Night Time Stories on 8th November. ‘Magic Seeds’ is a rebirth of sorts, and his most collaborative and personal offering yet. 
 
Over the past few years, James has steadily built a reputation as a vital new voice in electronic music on both sides of the Atlantic. He’s played prestigious London venues with European tours to match, including notable nights at Village Underground and the Barbican, gaining support along the way from the likes of Pitchfork, KCRW, BBC 6Music, NTS, Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Bradley Zero and actor Cillian Murphy. 

His 2018 debut album ‘A Louder Silence‘ defied convention, deftly blending IDM and minimalist avant-garde influences with Nina Simone-inspired vocals and capturing heady nights at London’s long-lost and beloved club Plastic People. A remix EP followed, featuring respected leftfielders including Bruce, FaltyDL and Coby Sey, yet James refused to stay in one lane. ‘Wurlitzer’s’ ominous crescendo of neo-classical piano and sub-bass won acclaim at film festivals thanks to its visual by Hungarian director Balázs Simon, and then came his second, more challenging electronic full-length. 2020’s ‘Angel in Disguise’ garnered attention from the dance music world, earning praise from Mixmag, CRACK and DJ Mag, and culminating in a full performance on Boiler Room.
 
For now, ‘Magic Seeds’ illuminates James as one of those rare composers who is capable of taking listeners to great highs and plunging them into inky depths; moody and moving music that feels equally airy, as if it was composed outside under the moon – which, he jokes, is exactly where he hopes people will listen to it. And though there are tracks that are more songs than soundscapes, he eschews formulas for musical freedom. It’s an ambitious record that could work both in open spaces and in dank clubs – as long as there is a smoke machine, of course. But more than anything, it feels as if it’s living and breathing; a sonic collage of James’s past few years whirled into one.

Dance music royalty Sasha returns to Night Time Stories with his latest project ‘Da Vinci Genius’, released 29th November.
 
His 2016 release ‘Scene Delete’ on the same label was Sasha as you’ve never heard him before: an imaginary movie soundtrack score, and a slight left-turn for the veteran producer/DJ.
 
So, Sasha, the classical music composer? An immersive show that debuted in Berlin in 2021 and then transferred a year later to Amsterdam, ‘Da Vinci Genius’ featured the work of Leonardo Da Vinci, the great Italian Renaissance polymath.
 
Although the score is inspired and draws heavily on the notion of movie and TV scores, he used his experience as an electronic music producer – and movie buff – to re-frame his work and enlisted the help of ‘Scene Delete’ veterans Dennis White, Dave Gardner and Barry Jamieson to assist in this complex task.
 
“I’ve never written music like this before, so it was really exciting and interesting to do it. We wanted to capture some of the atmosphere of those incredible film scores we were inspired by. But also, we really wanted to try and strike this balance between classical music and electronic sounds. The nearest we’d come to classical music was sampling it. So, we said, let’s try and recreate these movies and sounds, so our approach was a lot more considered. We listened to the ‘Barry Lyndon’ score – because it’s Handel – and ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Succession’ and those ideas just kind of fitted creatively where we were at. We started in a place where we knew this was going to be a score. It was hard work, but it’s one of the most accomplished things we’ve ever done.”
 
A dream-like journey from start to finish, the nuances, atmosphere and melodic layers of compositions such as ‘Mosiac’, ‘Equality’ and ‘Clouds’, are woven into soft melodies and emotive timbres, and are perfectly presented. It’s only with compositions such as the beatific ‘Super Hero (with Sentre)’ and ‘Into The Metaverse’ where Sasha reverts to a more familiar sound, we would normally associate with him.
 
With ‘Da Vinci Genius’, it feels like Sasha may be moving into the next phase of his career. “I really wanted to try and strike a balance between classical music and electronic music, because although the show focuses on Leonardo’s original art, in most points of the show it’s getting messed with electronically. For instance, the Mona Lisa appears and then gets dissembled. So, I wanted to capture this classical mood, but with electronics behind it.”

London-based duo Franc Moody, a.k.a Ned Franc and Jon Moody, today share a quadruple threat, with the announcement of their third studio album Chewing The Fat released via their new label Night Time Stories, Late Night Tales’ sister label, out 7th March 2025, as well as an EU & UK tour which includes a date at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, and a brand new single ‘Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road’.

Of the new furiously fun track, the duo states that the track is their attempt at a “bold leap into a new era of Franc Moody”. The majority of the song was written and recorded in Los Angeles at 64 Sounds, with the mindset of tearing up the Franc Moody rule book and exploring uncharted waters.

Further waxing lyrical about the tune, they share, “Armed with mellotrons, drum machines and other crazy synths we delved into a psychedelic and acid driven soundscape with a hint of British seaside crag. The song explores adventure, decadence and a feeling of getting in over your head; of being enchanted by powerful forces. Lost in a moment before coming to one's senses and realising the things that really ground us.”

Yazz Ahmed, hailed as one of the most influential trumpet players of her generation. An Ivor Novello award winning composer who makes sweeping epics that are rich with storytelling, depicting evocative ancient worlds and mythological muses. With her fourth studio album, A Paradise in the Hold, the British-Bahrani musician dives even deeper into her dual heritage and has come up with a treasure trove that draws on traditional music and stories from her childhood home. Ahmed writes for the voice for the first time, with lyrics inspired by Bahraini wedding poems and the yearning songs of the pearl divers. Deeply textural, expansive and full of potent performances, the album charts the heroic voyages of the jewel-hunters of yore, who sailed home through rough seas with precious cargo, and Ahmed’s own voyage of self-discovery over the past decade.  

“A thread in my work has been searching for, establishing and, now, finally embracing and celebrating my cultural identity,” she says. Whereas she explored Arabian music more generally with her earlier material, this release is more explicitly linked to her homeland. “If my first album, 2011’s Finding My Way Home, represents the first steps on this path then with A Paradise In The Hold, I’ve arrived at a deeper understanding of how my British and Bahraini heritage can co-exist, in personal as well as musical terms.” 

Notably, Ahmed hadn’t written for the voice until now. For A Paradise In The Hold, she penned lyrics in English, which she then translated to Arabic, or, on ‘Though My Eyes Go To Sleep My Heart Does Not Forget You’, adapted the words from a pearl divers’ standard. She worked with a range of impressive singers to bring her vision to life: Brigitte Beraha, Natacha Atlas, Randolph Matthews and Alba Nacinovich. The voice of her father, meanwhile, can be heard on standout track ‘Into The Night’, which lands you in the centre of a percussive hubbub and which Ahmed intended as a celebration of female independence. “He was trying to conduct the recording session in the family house,” she says of her dad. “Everyone was gathered in the sitting room and I recorded some of the ululations and clapping that you can hear in the track. I’m so glad I got to have my family on the album.” 

The collaborators on the album in particular, percussionist Corrina Silvester and the greatly missed giant of the jazz world and Yazz’s dear friend, drummer, Martin France, helped Ahmed to strengthen the connection between the two worlds; A Paradise In The Hold is a bold fusion that reveals its riches more with each rewarding listen. “It’s another step in my evolution of making music,” says Ahmed. “There’s so much beauty in Bahraini music. I hope this album gives people a flavour of how vibrant its culture is.”

their new album, we're having a barn dance, is the story of one tumultuous year of living, loving (and the falling out thereof). The songwriting is a diary of an eventful 12 months. “We had a big chat about what this all means to us,” explains Oskar, “And we boiled it down to this: it’s about love, but not necessarily romantic love. It’s about all of those competing emotions and how, if you love one thing, it might detract from loving something else.”
 
we’re having a barn dance is both literally and metaphorically their one year safari of discovery, starting in a farmhouse in France through to a studio behind Lidl in Limehouse. “I think the album for me feels like a journey,” explains Adam. “I was definitely fixated on this multifaceted concept of ‘home’ throughout the writing process. It seems to start with a departure and sets in motion an attempt to try and locate, then return to, an ever-evolving sense of home. Which is interesting as I was couch-surfing for the bulk of the time we were writing the album, living across so many different homes. Oskar and I gave each other permission to use the shared project as a personal outlet. And making it was entwined with a process of self-reckoning and was helpful in a way that I hadn’t experienced from music before.”

“We were pretty perfectionist,” says Oskar. “Took a while tweaking everything and making it right. And it really documents, I think, that year in a really nice way.”

Kennebec is the critically acclaimed musical outlet of Eric Phillips, a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist living in Portland, Oregon. Drawing from an eclectic array of influences to create his own unique style of cinematic electronic music, he is set to release his sophomore album ‘Without Star or Compass’ on the 28th October via Night Times Stories, the sister label to LateNightTales. 

Releasing his debut album ‘Departure’ at the beginning of the pandemic in early 2020, ‘Without Star or Compass’ was written and recorded during a phase in Phillips’ life which allowed him to re-examine his motivations. “The first primary influence for this record is that, more so than ‘Departure’, I wanted to write this record for my friends and others rather than for myself. Maybe it's also a product of maturing, but I wanted the music to communicate more clearly to others, and be less of an exercise of some kind for myself.” 

From the subtle electronica of ‘Leaving The Canyons’ featuring the distinctive vocals of Future Islands frontman Samuel T. Herring, the expanding electronic beats of ‘Tall Tales’ featuring Hemlock Ernst (the rap moniker of Samuel T. Herring) and US singer Sudan Archives, to the effortlessly cast rhythms of ‘The Great Divide’ featuring Yazz Ahmed on horns, Phillips set out to make an album which was more direct with sparser arrangements and distinct melodies, while still maintaining the eclectic and creative nature of his debut. “I think if I were a writer, my words would be all setting and very little narrative. I'm really trying to evoke a sense of place and motion and journey and environment but the facts of the story are left vague.” 

On working with Herring, Phillips adds, “I think our styles just resonated well with one another, and we clicked naturally. We sent some ideas back and forth remotely and then he flew out to Portland and we recorded all the vocals in three days together. It was so fun and inspiring - and really deepened my appreciation for his craft. He's such a nice guy and a total genius. Sam's lyrics really hit a beautiful balance between that sense of magic and folklore in the natural world that I'm after, while really bringing his own sense of narrative. He's really amazing at constructing lyrical concepts in a way that I think compliments my own strengths (and weaknesses).” 

Throughout ‘Without Star or Compass’, Phillips masterfully creates an evocative sense of place and motion in a cinematic way, in part due to his love of soundtrack music, a heavy influence on the album. ‘Castalay's Fountain’ was inspired by classic JRPG music such as ‘Zelda’, ‘Chrono Trigger’ and ‘Final Fantasy’, while instrumental tracks ‘Friendship song’, ‘The Great Divide’ and ‘Calyptra’ are rich in cinematic grandeur.  

In addition to the Kennebec project, Phillips has composed the music for numerous feature films, documentaries, podcasts and games. In 2020, alongside Mark Orton (of Tin Hat Trio) and John Hancock, Phillips co-composed the soundtrack to 'Wind of Change', a podcast created by New York Times Journalist Patrick Radden Keefe and produced by Spotify, recorded the Moscow Bowtie Orchestra for the feature-length film ‘12 Mighty Orphans’ starring Luke Wilson, Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen and scored Northfork Studios documentary ‘Chehalis: A Watershed Moment.'

London-based duo Franc Moody, a.k.a Ned Franc and Jon Moody, today share a quadruple threat, with the announcement of their third studio album Chewing The Fat released via their new label Night Time Stories, Late Night Tales’ sister label, out 7th March 2025, as well as an EU &amp; UK tour which includes a date at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, and a brand new single ‘Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road’.

Of the new furiously fun track, the duo states that the track is their attempt at a “bold leap into a new era of Franc Moody”. The majority of the song was written and recorded in Los Angeles at 64 Sounds, with the mindset of tearing up the Franc Moody rule book and exploring uncharted waters.

Further waxing lyrical about the tune, they share, “Armed with mellotrons, drum machines and other crazy synths we delved into a psychedelic and acid driven soundscape with a hint of British seaside crag. The song explores adventure, decadence and a feeling of getting in over your head; of being enchanted by powerful forces. Lost in a moment before coming to one's senses and realising the things that really ground us.”

Experimental producer, composer and vocalist Leifur James announces the release of his third album ‘Magic Seeds’ via Night Time Stories on 8th November. ‘Magic Seeds’ is a rebirth of sorts, and his most collaborative and personal offering yet. 
 
Over the past few years, James has steadily built a reputation as a vital new voice in electronic music on both sides of the Atlantic. He’s played prestigious London venues with European tours to match, including notable nights at Village Underground and the Barbican, gaining support along the way from the likes of Pitchfork, KCRW, BBC 6Music, NTS, Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Bradley Zero and actor Cillian Murphy. 

His 2018 debut album ‘A Louder Silence‘ defied convention, deftly blending IDM and minimalist avant-garde influences with Nina Simone-inspired vocals and capturing heady nights at London’s long-lost and beloved club Plastic People. For now, ‘Magic Seeds’ illuminates James as one of those rare composers who is capable of taking listeners to great highs and plunging them into inky depths; moody and moving music that feels equally airy, as if it was composed outside under the moon – which, he jokes, is exactly where he hopes people will listen to it. And though there are tracks that are more songs than soundscapes, he eschews formulas for musical freedom. It’s an ambitious record that could work both in open spaces and in dank clubs – as long as there is a smoke machine, of course. But more than anything, it feels as if it’s living and breathing; a sonic collage of James’s past few years whirled into one.

British-Bahraini trumpeter and composer Yazz Ahmed today announces her much-anticipated fourth studio album, A Paradise In The Hold, set for release on 28 February via her new label Night Time Stories. Alongside this announcement, she is releasing the record’s title track, a powerful 10-minute piece inspired by the voyages of Bahraini pearl divers braving the seas to bring home their precious cargo. It blends traditional Bahraini influences with dynamic textures, eerily manipulated field recordings, polyrhythmic clapping and layered instrumentation that crescendos into a euphoric celebration of collective strength. 

On her new single, Yazz offers: “Composition began during experimentation with recordings from a research trip to hear the Pearl Divers of Muharraq in 2014. I processed short fragments of ceremonial sounds and morphed them into an undulating beat emulating the rise and fall, the breathing of the ocean, the creaking of the boat’s timbers.The piece has evolved during live performances into something of an epic, with solos from myself, George Crowley on bass clarinet and Naadia Sheriff on Fender Rhodes. It continues with a darbuka solo by Corrina Silvester, played over an extended vamp with polyrhythmic clapping from the ensemble, before the uplifting coda. I wanted to paint a picture of the joyful celebrations of the collective efforts of the sailors to bring their riches home.”

A sweeping epic where tradition meets innovation, she melds ancient rhythms with contemporary musicianship. The record is a tribute to the sorrowful songs of Bahrain’s pearl divers, the strength of Arab women, and the celebratory rhythms of women's traditional drumming circles, while also telling the story of Yazz’s own decade-long voyage of self-discovery. 

On the album, Yazz says: “A thread in my work has been searching for, establishing, and now finally embracing and celebrating my cultural identity. I want to change the narrative about Arab women. So often, they are misrepresented as oppressed, but in Bahrain, there are many creative women forging new paths. I hope this album shines a light on that vibrancy and strength.” 

The album also marks Yazz’s first foray into writing lyrics, in both English and Arabic, bringing a new dimension to her expansive sound. The project features an impressive roster of collaborators, including vocalists Natacha Atlas, Brigitte Beraha, and percussionist Corrina Silvester. An Ivor Novello Award-winning composer and one of the most innovative trumpet players of her generation, with A Paradise In The Hold, Yazz Ahmed delivers a groundbreaking fusion of tradition and innovation, creating a contemporary jazz project that is set to make a lasting impact on the genre.

A standout piece from her forthcoming album, A Paradise In The Hold, (out 28 February via Night Time Stories), the new single is constructed with carefully assembled layers of sound, all hinging on recordings of percussive, joyful hubbub at Yazz’s family home in Bahrain. Deeply personal, it is one of the pieces from the album that wears its Bahraini influence proudly whilst also being a remarkable celebration of female independence. 

On her new single, Yazz offers: “This short interlude continues the narrative of the celebratory song of independence, Dancing Barefoot. We follow the reluctant bride outside, dancing, laughing and singing into the night. Adding a very personal touch to the piece, the track features members of my own family, recorded at our home in Bahrain, providing the party hubbub and the joyful ululations. I recorded a fragment of the original melody over a drum ensemble, which was created entirely by Corrina Silvester, with multi-tracked layers of percussion and clapping. It is perhaps the most purely Bahraini piece on the album.”

“‘Space Between Us’ feels like a funk fuelled cavalry charge that draws on elements of psychedelia, pub rock and space exploration.” Franc Moody explains. “It’s become a rule of ours to have a shuffle beat on each album, a groove we’ve grown to love in the FM format.”

The duo admits that they “came back from a writing trip in LA with the beat and bass line thinking nothing of it really, only for it then to all come together very quickly back in the studio HQ in London one evening. We hope you enjoy!”

lavender today release new single lowlight:slowlight, out now on Night Time Stories. The new single follows their debut EP, all will be well, which was released via Foundation FM Records. 

lavender are Oskar Rice and Adam Jackson; friends since school, one a DJ/producer, one in an indie band, their burgeoning friendship saw them bonding over Elliot Smith as much as J Dilla. Their debut EP garnered praise and appreciation, with lead single 'peppermint’ currently on 22 million Spotify streams. Worldwide FM and NTS were hugely supportive, as were BBC 6Music stalwart Cerys Matthews and Jack Saunders and Nels Hylton at BBC Radio 1. 

The writing of lowlight:slowlight was driven by a desire to experiment more with sampling, deconstructing Adam’s demo and treating it like another piece of the audio jigsaw. “I sent Oskar this layered recording and he flipped what I’d made into this beat,” says Adam. “I remember listening to it on the way to the studio and thinking this is crazy, when we finished it. There was a moment where we felt like we’d just unlocked this feeling and it was like that song just fell out the sky. We were both hyped because it was the best thing we’d ever made and the new benchmark of what this music could be.”

Their new album, we're having a barn dance, is the story of one tumultuous year of living, loving (and the falling out thereof). The songwriting is a diary of an eventful 12 months. “We had a big chat about what this all means to us,” explains Oskar, “And we boiled it down to this: it’s about love, but not necessarily romantic love. It’s about all of those competing emotions and how, if you love one thing, it might detract from loving something else.”
 
we’re having a barn dance is both literally and metaphorically their one year safari of discovery, starting in a farmhouse in France through to a studio behind Lidl in Limehouse. “I think the album for me feels like a journey,” explains Adam. “I was definitely fixated on this multifaceted concept of ‘home’ throughout the writing process. It seems to start with a departure and sets in motion an attempt to try and locate, then return to, an ever-evolving sense of home. Which is interesting as I was couch-surfing for the bulk of the time we were writing the album, living across so many different homes. Oskar and I gave each other permission to use the shared project as a personal outlet. And making it was entwined with a process of self-reckoning and was helpful in a way that I hadn’t experienced from music before.”

“We were pretty perfectionist,” says Oskar. “Took a while tweaking everything and making it right. And it really documents, I think, that year in a really nice way.”

"'harlequin/los días azules' is the conclusion of the album. It is a reflection and triumphant end of a chapter, simultaneously looking back with fondness and forward with optimism. It was the last track we made for the album, and benefits from hindsight providing some final musings and a level of resolve on the themes of the album".

It’s probably the most direct sample on the album and repurposes the refrain from the original to express something we were both drawn to at the time for different reasons"

In their own words, the band explain that "This song exists on wax as “Swallertrip” simply because we found ourselves in the weird position of having to come up with a song title  before we’d written the actual song. What became “Waiting For The Punchline” started out as a sketch channeling the likes of Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem and Fela Kuti. With the help of a chunky synth lead line on the ole FM stalwart Roland SH101 the tune took shape pretty  quickly and with some added voicenote magic from our pal Olivia and some extra Franc Moody quirk the song has since become a staple of the live set"

Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present 'Maria También', the first single from their upcoming second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo'. Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums; Khruangbin’s sounds are rooted in the deepest waters of world music infused with classic soul, dub and psychedelia. Their 2015 debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was heavily influenced by 60’s and 70’s Thai cassettes the band listened to on their long car journeys to rehearsal in the Texan countryside. ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ takes inspiration not just from South East Asia but similarly underdiscovered funk and soul of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, particularly Iran.

Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present the video for their new single ‘Friday Morning’. A song about “jumping into love,” ‘Friday Morning’ skips between laid back Isley Brothers-­esque vibes via delicate tempo changes into gentle hymnal passages.

On 26th January, Khruangbin will release their second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ on Night Time Stories. Continuing their world music pedigree, the band has expanded their global influences on this record from Thai funk to sounds of Spain and the Middle East, particularly Iran, from the 1960’s, 1970’s and beyond. Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present their second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo’. Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums; Khruangbin’s sounds are rooted in the deepest waters of world music infused with classic soul, dub and psychedelia. Their 2015 debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was heavily influenced by 60’s and 70’s Thai cassettes the band listened to on their long car journeys to rehearsal in the Texan countryside. ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ takes inspiration not just from South East Asia but similarly underdiscovered funk and soul of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, particularly Iran.

‘Before I Fall’ is the latest single from Garden City Movement’s debut album ‘Apollonia’, set for release on 16th March 2017 via Night Time Stories.

Musically the album’s dream-like vocals, cinematic-RnB and leftfield house mask the darker side of the lyrics; exploring the breakdown of a fading relationship and the depression, loneliness and abuse that follows. The band explain: "Before I Fall" is based on a real story ten years ago about a young couple who broke up. A year later, while she was at a Miss Universe beauty contest, he decided to go and walk on the railway with his back to the trains, until one hit him. This story and real life mixed while working on the album.”

Leifur James - Mumma Don't Tell

Following the release of his debut record “A Louder Silence” last October on Late Night Lates, Leifur James returns with his new single ‘Wurlitzer’ ahead of a run of dates including a headline show at The Southbank Centre in late March.

Leifur’s debut fused ambient electronica, jazz, classical and soul music, a recording process which was over a 2 year period. ‘Wurlitzer’ is the first piece of music he reveals from a new creative period after those sessions.

“’Wurlitzer’ was kind of a break away from the ambience of the album.” says Leifur. “I was wanting to corrupt the mood of the album with something a bit intense and destructive. I guess there was an unusual balance there for creating something new but in a bit of a destructive mind-set.” 

“I’d been staying at my dad’s in the winter months, he lives in the middle of a rural pre historic stone circle, its quite an intense place in winter. I was playing on the old upright wurlitzer piano there and the wind was shaking the house, I could hear it aggressively whistling in the chimney. The contrast of the wind with the piano was interesting and gave me the idea.” 

The video was created by animator/director Balázs Simon. “We spoke about the video and this balance of creation and destruction in the music. The theme for the video being the duality of creation; creation and destruction and the cross over point between those.” The result is ravishing 4 minutes of piano-fused electronica haunted by ecological currents.

Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin are set to release ‘Hasta El Cielo’, the band’s glorious dub version of their second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo’. The full album has been processed anew along with two bonus dubs by renowned Jamaican producer Scientist.

The band’s exotic, spacious, psychedelic funk aligns with the dub treatment particularly well. Indeed, keen fans won’t find this a surprising release. Dubs of tracks from their first album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ appeared on limited vinyl releases of ‘People Everywhere’ for Record Store Day 2016 and ‘Zionsville’ on the BoogieFuturo remix 12”. The especially eagle-eared will have caught a dub of ‘Two Fish’ playing over the credits of the track’s celebrated video. 

“For us, Dub has always felt like a prayer. Spacious, meditative, able to transport the listener to another realm. The first dub albums we listened to were records mixed by Scientist featuring the music of the Roots Radics. Laura Lee learned to play bass by listening to Scientist Wins the World Cup. His unique mixing style, with the emphasis on space and texture, creates the feeling of frozen time; it was hugely influential to us as a band. To be able to work alongside Scientist, a legend in the history of dub, is an honor. This is our dub version of Con Todo El Mundo.”

One year after Leifur James released his debut album A Louder Silence on 5th October 2018, he returns with a remix EP; also released on Night Times Stories, original artist label of Late Night Tales; home to Texan trio Khruangbin.

The record attracted immediate support from Pitchfork, KEXP, XLR8R, Mixmag 8/10, Future Music UK 9/10, Electronic Sound 9/10.  In April 2019 ‘Wurlitzer’ was the first piece of music he revealed from a new creative period after those sessions. The remix EP of the debut album A Louder Silence features a slew of the finest musicians in electronic music today. Bruce coming off the back of his hugely well received debut album for Hessle Audio has a “resymph” of Osho in typical mind-bending austere electronic style. Whities producer and Tirzah/Mica Levi collaborator Coby Sey reconstructs Suns of Gold with his sampler. Blueberry Records founder FaltyDL aka Drew Lustman contributes a deep, skipping 2-stepping reversion of Mumma Don’t Tell. Auntie Flo AKA Brian d’Souza flexes his world-club fusion on a shimmering remix of Salaninam. And London cellist, composer and Radiohead regular collaborator Oliver Coates reshapes Red Sea into a swirling post-rock noise, leading into a jazz-chamber music outro.

The 4 most DJ friendly cuts from FaltyDL, Bruce, Coby Sey and Leifur’s own remix will also be released as a highly limited edition 12”. 300 vinyls are being pressed up. In total, it’s a refreshingly diverse and creative collection of new approaches to Leifur’s source material.

London based experimental producer and composer, Leifur James announces his return with news of a six date EU tour and the release of ‘Wise Old Man’ - the first single taken from his highly anticipated second album ‘Angel in Disguise’, which is due for release on the 24th April 2020 via Night Time Stories (sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’).

Driving, melancholic electronica, ‘Wise Old Man’ is a nod to what can be expected of James’ second album, Angel In Disguise, showcasing a more experimental side to his production. Traversing through musicality, progressive synths and introspection, this first single unveils the producer’s distinct sound with disorientated vocals; speaking of the interplay between reason and emotion, the lyrics repeat “Wise old man in my brain, soul bursting through my veins”, opening the gates to this captivating electronically steered opus.

Following the release of the ‘Needledrop’ album via ‘Night Time Stories’, Session Victim announce ‘Needledrop Remixed’, set for release this June. Featuring Laurence Guy, Jackmate (aka Soulphiction), Patrice Scott, Dday One and Panoram, Patrice Scott’s remix of ‘Isle Of Taste’ is released today.

Expanding upon the album’s blend of jazz, electronic and downtempo, each of the remixers instill their own production styles to reimagine one of underground music’s most intriguing and genre-crossing acts into a new listening experience. From Laurence Guy’s melodic yet driving remix of ‘Needledrop’, to Jackmate’s transformation of ‘Still High’ into 5-minute, experimental rework, ‘Needledrop Remixed’ continues to reaffirm the original album as Session Victim’s most eclectic LP to date.  

With each remixer personally selected by Session Victim, the EP channels a deeper exploration of the album. Patrice Scott 90’s influenced take on ‘Isle Of Taste’ is a longer and more contemporary offering, whilst Dday One’s remix of ‘Jazzbeat 7’ adds a sinuous saxophone solo to fully embrace the experimental spirit of the original. The neo-jazz feel of ‘No Sky, Blue Sound’ is flipped to a slower tempo by Panoram, yet retains the explorative guitar solo heard on the album.

Released in March, ‘Needledrop’ is Session Victim’s anticipated 11-track album. With industry support from the likes of CRACK, Dummy, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, XLR8R and more, the album was released on 'Night Time Stories’, the London based sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’. Following the release of his debut album Departure earlier this year, Kennebec returns with a digital package of six remixes on 16th October 2020, building on the expansive, organic sounds of his debut outing in collaboration with some of jazz and lo fi’s finest. Upon Departure’s release Kennebec’s naturally inspired, exploratory work drew comparisons from Crack Magazine with early Four Tet, with them calling it “an ode to the beauty and solace found in the Pacific Northwest, to its sweeping landscapes and lush rainforests”. In keeping with Kennebec’s source material, this collection of remixes feels like an organic offshoot, spawned instead of made. The EP opens with Newham jazz maven Alfa Mist’s remix of Quest. A prominent artist/producer in UK jazz’s celebrated no-longer-new wave, for his remix he amps up Quest’s natural swing, employing his characteristic taste for chopped samples while weaving its guitar and string elements into a Dilla-esque jam. With a similar taste for exploring the blurred boundaries of jazz and hip hop, Stan Forebee takes the lilting piano lullaby of Yesterday Tomorrow and cradles it into a laid back, contemporary jazz roller, with undulating pads atop a steady, pensive beat. Getting to grips with one of Departure’s lead singles, Portland’s Kalaido draws all the song’s sprawling musical elements into a tight, lo fi work, emphasising the original’s stand out moment sampling its otherworldly sax solo. Next Santpoort tackles A Monsoon, maintaining its driving momentum while lending his own dreamy tone. Night Time Stories’ own Ash Walker steps up for remix duties on album title track Departure, drawing out and re-emphasising the original’s bassline to incredible, blissed out effect, before prolific downtempo composer Tristan De Liege
closes out the release with his take on the wending ‘Kalahari’, dressing it in ethereal piano chords, chopped guitar lines and warm pads.
