Two roads stood open, lined with shadows,
Leaves spread thick like an old coat of paint,
Yellow wood spilling its secrets, twisting underfoot.
One man stands alone, looking hard, looking long,
Wondering where paths lead when they slip from view,
Where roots run deep, and where steps go soft and lost.
Here the earth knows its children well—
Old paths groove deep like rivers in stone,

Worn smooth by feet that never questioned,
By hearts that beat in time with ancient drums.
These roots, they whisper "stay, stay, stay,"
Promise shelter in their well-worn ways,
Offer certainty like mother's milk,
Sweet and warm and known since birth.

But there—there where the path grows thin,
Where footprints fade like morning mist,
The ground speaks languages yet unlearned,
Each step a word in tongues unknown.
