The one that never made it online, until now!

‘1501’ - an album that came and went, as quick as the weather changing, here in the UK. That, by no means, the album was poor. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It was a quality body of work, meticulously crafted by Derby based musician and producer, Nikka Sev, comprising of quality vocalists, uncompromising compositions during an unfortunate sign of the times we live in, where music is so disposable, regardless of how good tracks are.

The album saw both a digital and physical release - the latter being a very rare occurrence in this day and age, given how everything is being pushed to the streaming world. The physical release, however, boasted a bonus track, titled ‘Piti Bin Sadaa’, featuring the vocals of the Late. Sanjeev Jalalabadi, with lyrics being provided by Guddu Sidhwanwala.

Many will remember this song being originally sang by the late Kuldip Manak. Manak and Jalalabadi’s relationship was that of teacher and student, respectively. The song was originally Sanjeev’s, but on hearing the song, Kuldip Manak asked if he could have the song, to which Sanjeev more than willingly gave, out of respect for his teacher.

This version of ‘Piti Bin Sadaa’ is the original way in which is supposed to be sang. Nikka has really gone the extra mile is creating a song which bleeds pure genius and class. Sanjeev’s vocals are relentless, and really come to life in this song.

Acclaimed Derby based producer, Nikka Sev, is all set to release the first instalment from ‘The Remix Sessions’ series, titled ‘Gidhian Di Raniye Remix’.
 
The remix features the evergreen classic by A.S. Kang, ‘Gidhian Di Rani’, released in 1978, with the original music provided by legendary Panjabi Folk producer, K.S. Narula. Lyrics were originally provided by Harbans Jandu more commonly known as Jandu Littranwala. The original percussion, now featured in most current Panjabi songs in the form of that infamous loop, was provided by by none other than the elder brother of Tubsy, Sital Singh.

The release, Nikka Sev’s first in two years, flips the original track on its head, giving it a new lease of life. The GDR Remix is not just your average remix. It also introduces fresh and exciting original production to give the track that modern edge for the current market.

Derby’s Nikka Sev is back for the second instalment of ‘The Remix Sessions’ series, titled ‘Heer Di Doli Remix’.

The remix features the powerful vocals of the legendary Surinder Shinda, accompanied with the original music compositions of Charanjit Ahuja. The original ‘Heer Di Doli’, beautifully written by Jaswant Sandila, was released back in 1981, which then for years to come, sent shockwaves through every crevice in the Panjabi music industry. Since its release, almost 40 years ago, ‘Heer Di Doli’ has inspired some of the most prominent and respected Panjabi music producers across the world.

Like with ‘Gidhian Di Raniye Remix’, this second instalment in the series again introduces fresh original production to try and boost the greatness already laid by the original, with the hope exposing the track to a new audience.

He just isn’t stopping! Nikka Sev returns for a hat-trick in the increasingly successful series, 'The Remix Sessions'. This time, he brings it back full circle, remixing a forgotten gem by Panjabi Folk legend, A.S. Kang, titled ‘Gidha Pao Kuriyo Remix’.

The original song has been taken from the album, ‘Munda Tey Kuri’. This album was produced, performed and recorded in the UK and is very much a part of Kang’s discography. But unfortunately, the S. Mahendra produced album has been subject to being overshadowed over the years, as albums such as ‘Gidhian Di Raniye Ni Gidhe Vich Aa’, ‘Main Aashiq Tera’ and ‘Flash Back’ have taken the title of being Kang’s career defining works. The original song was again written by the legendary Harbans Jandu, who everyone has grown to know and love by his writing alias - Jandu Littranwala.

The previous two instalments from the series have proven to the world that Nikka is more than capable of revamping the classics with clear respect to the original masterpieces, only overlaying new elements that enhance the originals in a constructive manner. ‘Gidha Pao Kuriyo Remix’ is no different. Nikka has taken the original and enhanced it with the hope of it making it to the dance-floor.

To a lot of people, remixing songs is an art. An art that finds a perfect balance of refreshing classics, but breathing new life into the originals, bringing them to an audience that wasn’t around during the first release. That being said, remixing the classics is a risky business. Many artists have tried. Some remixes have gone on to become just as successful as their original counterparts, however, A LOT have not been given the time of day. This is due to the fact that they have been poorly made, to the point where punters have labelled such remixes as disrespectful.

Remixing isn’t just slapping an instrumental or beat over a track, there’s much more to the story than that. To do it properly requires skill, musical knowledge and a genuine appreciation and love of the original release.

Nikka Sev, a now established Panjabi music producer from Derby, UK, is all of the above and more. 3 releases in to his ‘The Remix Sessions’ series, and it is clearly evident he’s no lightweight producer. Each of the three releases brought something different to the table - showcasing the variety of capabilities Nikka has under his belt.

Like with all good things, however, they have to come to an end. At least that’s what we thought. Nikka is back, nearly 3 months after the release of ‘Gidha Pao Kuriyo Remix’ by A.S. Kang, with a Kuldip Manak remix! Titled ‘Gabru Mast Rahe Remix’, Nikka has taken the evergreen original, more commonly known as ‘Amb Da Boota’, and flipped it on its head. Who would’ve thought Manak would ever collaborate with Biggie Smalls?!

Nikka Sev now brings to you a track sang by the great Surinder Shinda, music originally being provided by the legendary Charanjit Ahuja, and lyrics provided by Gurdev Makhsoospuri more commonly known today as Debi Makhsoospuri. ‘Khamb Lake Ud Door Gaya Remix’ takes the original and flips it on its head with completely new piece work and feel. A refreshing take on an underdog track by Surinder Shinda and Charanjit Ahuja.

This remix really is pure class in its finest form. Artistic.
