The one that never made it online, until now!

‘1501’ - an album that came and went, as quick as the weather changing, here in the UK. That, by no means, the album was poor. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It was a quality body of work, meticulously crafted by Derby based musician and producer, Nikka Sev, comprising of quality vocalists, uncompromising compositions during an unfortunate sign of the times we live in, where music is so disposable, regardless of how good tracks are.

The album saw both a digital and physical release - the latter being a very rare occurrence in this day and age, given how everything is being pushed to the streaming world. The physical release, however, boasted a bonus track, titled ‘Piti Bin Sadaa’, featuring the vocals of the Late. Sanjeev Jalalabadi, with lyrics being provided by Guddu Sidhwanwala.

Many will remember this song being originally sang by the late Kuldip Manak. Manak and Jalalabadi’s relationship was that of teacher and student, respectively. The song was originally Sanjeev’s, but on hearing the song, Kuldip Manak asked if he could have the song, to which Sanjeev more than willingly gave, out of respect for his teacher.

This version of ‘Piti Bin Sadaa’ is the original way in which is supposed to be sang. Nikka has really gone the extra mile is creating a song which bleeds pure genius and class. Sanjeev’s vocals are relentless, and really come to life in this song.

‘1501’ is out now on OldSoul Records, both physically and digitally.

A name not widely known across the scene, but one that has been actively releasing music for over 10 years, Derby (UK) based musician and music producer, Nikka Sev, is all set to release his latest Panjabi music album, titled ‘1501’.

Born and bred in the city that has fast become the UK’s hub for authentic Panjabi music, Nikka spent the majority of his early years learning the art, resulting in him becoming a competent composer and musician, in addition to being a music producer. Possessing the skill of being able to compose your own music, in this day and age, is somewhat of a rarity.

Nikka’s beginnings as a music producer started in the Sikh Devotional (Dharmik) music scene, releasing songs on albums in the ever-popular Immortal Productions series, as well as producing a full album for the acclaimed and world-renowned singer/songwriter, Jagowala Jatha, titled ‘Chanan Munare’.

Panjabi Folk and UK Bhangra, however, have always been a love for Nikka. Even his Dharmik releases showcased a heavy presence of these music styles, which made it clearly evident where Nikka’s musical career was taking him.

The release of Nikka’s debut album, ‘2502’, in 2016, showcased Nikka’s versatility as a producer. It was an album that captured various styles of musical influences from all backgrounds and genres. Nikka made it a point to highlight the famous storylines of Panjabi Folk to an era and audience that might not be fully familiar with the Folk Tales of Panjab. The songs not only showcased emotional storytelling, but also Nikka’s complex compositions, anchored together with meticulously chosen vocalists from around the world.

Throughout his career, Nikka has worked with a plethora of different vocalists, lyricists and musicians. Surinder Shinda, Dippa Dosanjh from Sat Rang, Ashok Gill, Bhupinder Singh Kullar (Tubsy) and Lal Athouli Wala are just some of the examples of Nikka’s particularity with whom he chooses to work with.
