Eugenica I. Italian Concerto / Евгеника I. Итальянский концерт

The piece is based on the principle of feedback — in acoustical, electrical and “human” aspects. Sound is self-generated as a result of interaction of electronic system and acoustic space. Interpreters react to the sound process, they select most needed part from it and continue its developing. During playing into a microphone sound is processed by electronics and is fed to the hall acoustic environment again.
The music assumes a form of a sound garden, where sound matter grows “by itself”, and musicians (including electronics’ operator) play the role of gardeners, breeding sound bushes and trees and cutting excess branches. That is “eugenics of sound”.

In our suffered much, politically correct world many people apprehensively looking toward this term. For the author it is important rather as a metaphor, for example when this word is used with regard to flowers. Anyhow everybody finding a mate, makes it’s own eugenics. In some or other way this “gardenering instinct” is the base of any culture, for author’s opinion.

Interactivity causes musicians to half-improvise “like in a concerto”; at the same time in the piece there is a lot of allusions to contemporary Italian music. It explains the jocose subtitle of the work.

Пьеса основана на принципе обратной связи — акустической, электронной и «гуманитарной». Звук самопорождается в результате взаимодействия электронной системы и пространства зала. Исполнители реагируют на звуковой процесс, они отбирают из него самое нужное и продолжают его развитие. При игре в микрофон звук обрабатывается электроникой и снова возвращается в акустическую среду зала.
Музыка приобретает форму звукового сада, в котором звуковая материя растёт «сама», а музыканты (включая оператора электроники) играют роль садовников, взращивающих звуковые кусты и деревья и срезающих лишние ветки: они культивируют наиболее важную составляющую, выращивая из неё новые звуковые структуры и отсекая лишнее. В этом и заключается «евгеника звуков».

В нашем многое пережившем, политкорректном мире многие с опаской смотрят на это понятие. Для автора оно важно, скорее, как метафора (в дословном переводе с греческого — «облагораживание»), или в том смысле, в котором этот термин применяют по отношению к цветам. В любом случае, каждый из нас, находя себе пару, осуществляет свою собственную евгенику. Так или иначе, этот инстинкт «садовничества», по мнению автора, есть основа всякой культуры.

Интерактивность ставит музыкантов в ситуацию полуимпровизационного концертирования; при этом в пьесе много аллюзий на современную итальянскую музыку. Это объясняет шутливый подзаголовок произведения.
