In March 2007, Inigo Kennedy put Token on the map with our first release ‘Identify Yourself’.
7 years & 10 releases later, he now releases his first full length on Token: ‘Vaudeville’, a project that feels like the culmination of all those years and all those records.
In true, theatrical manner, Vaudeville is a collection of differing themes - from the abstract and freakishly odd to the direct and resonant. And just as the Vaudevillian shares a common purpose with his co-stars as the 'voice of the city'('voix de ville'), there runs through the centre of this record a clear narrative for urban experience.

On 14 April we are releasing a single to portend the full show: 'Lullaby'/'Petrichor'. These two tracks will stand alone on a 12'' vinyl, with the rest of Vaudeville released as a 2xLP & CD on the 2nd June.

This was worth the wait, we promise.

In anticipation of Latvian producer Puremusic's second artist album forthcoming on Silk Sofa, we're proud to present the first single, "Unsaid". This unique piece is accompanied by two strong remixes by Stray Theories (New Zealand) and State Azure (UK).

The Original Mix begins with a hypnotic groove and captivating sound effects. A lush, subtle piano line is added, as well as breath-taking, floating arpeggio lines. After an intriguing break, the song continues in full effect with all the arpeggio layers and underlying piano sounds, supported by enjoyable percussion elements. Stray Theories returns to Silk Sofa after his acclaimed remix of Koda's "The Last Stand" on the label. A truly enchanting intro with well-crafted string lines kick off this track, and supportive piano notes are added soon thereafter. The addition of new, bright piano strokes on top truly spices up the captivating soundscape, which is already filled with several fascinating arpeggio layers. State Azure is a new signing to Silk Sofa, and his interpretation of "Unsaid" turned out to be quite a keeper. His remix kicks off with a great combination of arpeggio lines, intriguing sound effects, and a truly captivating and well-crafted breakbeat. The guitar strokes suit the background melodies perfectly, and the intermittent string notes on top unmistakably enhance the atmosphere.

On the 21st of March 2014 we will be celebrating 5 years of Home Normal. It has been an incredible journey to get this far and we never could have reached it without the kind support of talented artists and all the wonderful people who have ever bought one of our releases or attended one of our shows.

In this modern digital age with its constant stream of information, we've sought to work as quietly as possible, firmly rooting our ethos that things can be released in a subtle, quiet way. 'Organic' has always been the key word, and we are so thankful that people seem to still appreciate the natural path we've chosen, ignoring all the noise that surrounds our chosen way.

To celebrate this great landmark for us, we will be releasing our 5th year compilation 'Elements'. With over 60 artists from our past, present and future involved, this five disc compilation will be raising money for 5 different charities which are close to our hearts. All profits from the releases will be donated to the charities as follows:

Elements One (地)
The Archway Foundation is a charity that was set-up by my father which aids those who suffer from loneliness through outreach, social events, and befriending.

Elements Two (水)
The British Heart Foundation fund extra research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.

Elements Three (火)
ecoACTIVE is an innovative environmental education charity with a reputation for using hands-on, practical and fun approaches to explore complex issues of sustainability.

Elements Four (風)
Habitat Japan is very close to our hearts as they help to build houses for people who lost their homes in Sendai and Fukushima. They also provide valuable support worldwide to those in most need.

Elements Five (空)
Kalaweit is a wonderful charity my wife supports regularly. Its main objective is to save the gibbons of Indonesia and their habitat. In addition to this they also educate the local community about deforestation, as well as the dangers of increased use of palm oil leading to a rapid destruction of their habitat and continuing loss of biodiversity. Such education and protection is fundamental in one of the mot incredible (but poorly protected) countries in the world.

Graveyard Tapes announce 'White Rooms', the follow-up to their acclaimed debut. Edinburgh based duo Euan McMeeken (glacis, The Kays Lavelle) and Matthew Collings (Splintered Instruments, Sketches For Albinos) joined the Tribe in 2013 with 'Our Sound Is Our Wound'. 

Only the simplest and most elegant of ideas offer this sort of combustive force. McMeeken builds the audio structures and Collings nearly tears them back down again. Of their debut, Textura lauded “McMeeken's heartfelt singing and piano playing and Collings’ electronic and guitar colourations,” while Incendiary Magazine declared the album “a rare blend of inquisitive dark pop.” The track “Bloodbridge” inspired and was featured in Matty Ross’s enigmatic short film. 

Where 'Our Sound Is Our Wound' confronted heartbreak, solitude and death, White Rooms looks to progress, even repair, restore. Collings assumed the role of primary songwriter, and here the darkly lit, fully curtained spaces of their inaugural record serve not as a wake, but a wake-up call. As McMeeken writes, 'White Rooms' accepts "the difficult 
but essential challenge of finding the incongruent beauty in loss and moving forward as people.” This way the curtains are thrown open, daylight floods in, the colors of the interior come into full view, and we realize that what is left is a blank canvas, ready for our paints. 

Both Collings and McMeeken have long embraced collaboration in their solo careers, having worked with the likes of Ben Frost, Old Earth, and Dag Rosenqvist (Jasper TX). This time around they’ve given their collaborative natures ample room to breathe. Many tracks were improvised with Ben Chatwin, who records as Talvihorros, while the song “Flicker” finds omni-instrumentalist/ singer-songwriter William Ryan Fritch (Vieo Abiungo, Death Blues Ensemble) lending his cello. 

'White Rooms' releases mere months after Collings delivered his stunning 2nd solo album 'Silence Is A Rhythm Too', further solidifying his position as one of the most innovative and exciting producers around. It’s an addictive combo when paired with the searing and iconic vocals of McMeeken. It is clear from the initial moments: this incarnation of Graveyard Tapes digs ever deeper.

ABOUT LIVING ROOM SONGS:

Icelandic contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds created and released a new song, one per day for one for one whole week during the month of October 2011. The songs were recorded and filmed live in the living room of his Reykjavik apartment and released instantly for free as streamed videos and mp3 downloads.

Following in the spirit of Ólafur Arnalds’ critically acclaimed Found Songs (2009) now comes Living Room Songs. This time Ólafur takes the idea further and invites the audience into the comfort of his living room, where the songs were recorded live and the whole process filmed. The songs were instantly released in form of a free mp3 download and video stream- straight from Ólafur's Reykjavik apartment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: ‘One night I was just playing my piano here in this apartment and I was writing a new song and I didn't have my phone on me which I usually use to record ideas. So I actually took out my MacBook and I didn't want to open like a proper recording program, so I just opened Photo Booth and recorded a video of myself playing the song so that I would remember the song. And I really liked the atmosphere of that video and that's when I thought I should do a series of songs in my living room...’             – Ólafur Arnalds


Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometers outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. ABOUT THE ALBUM:

April 2013 will see Ukrainian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk, the pioneer of Continuous Music, return with his first release on UK’s contemporary music label Erased Tapes. Entitled 'Corollaries', the album was recorded and produced with the help of Peter Broderick, Nils Frahm, Martyn Heyne and label founder Robert Raths, who decided it’s time to share the great musical legacy of their new found friend. Or as Melnyk put it: ‘Where were you guys when I was thirty?’

IN HIS OWN WORDS:

‘My first encounter with Peter was at the Ambientfestival in Cologne, when I came into the cathedral where he was playing along with Nils. I was amazed and enthralled by the beauty and power of their music. The colours and majesty of the cathedral coupled with their music made it a great experience I will never forget. The music seemed to come out of the great stone pillars of the cathedral and from the very walls. It was an ecstatic moment. And I was so pleased that after his show, Peter came and spoke with me about my music and things, which was so nice since he is a gentle soul. Some time later, Peter contacted me with an invitation to come visit him in Berlin and try creating some music together. 

I arrived in Berlin with some apprehension over what our collaborations would be like. I had not played improvisation with other ambient musicians before, having worked solo for all these past years. So it was such a relief to start playing at his studio and hear his wonderful input. He was adding a beautiful and delicate dust cover of sounds and pearly effects that cast a lovely sparkle over the piano music --- I loved it.  

My piano music was happy with this new dimension of sounds. Peter just felt, in his natural way, the right things to do. It was a thrill to hear Continuous Music in some new clothes! And with the addition of Nils and Martyn, we all felt the beautiful spell of the communal flow as the music carried us into wonderful spaces.’  – LUBOMYR MELNYK

The album artwork was created by American contemporary artist Gregory Euclide, best known for his sculptural relief work and cover art for Bon Iver. Euclide was listening to early mixes of the recordings on repeat whilst creating the two paintings contained in the record, describing his visual counterpart to Melnyk's work as 'a continuous cycle of growth and decay'.

Beginning at 23:30 on Saturday May 16th and through 3:00 Monday May 18th, 2009 Chilly Gonzales broke the Guiness World Record for longest concert by a solo artist. The previous record was 26 hours and 12 minutes and was performed by Prasanna Gudi (India) at the Mallikarjun Mansoor Kala Bhavan public auditorium, Dharwad, Karnataka, India from 28 to 29 December 2008.

Gonzales explained his motivation: “I will do this to push my musical and physical stamina. I believe music is part art, part athletics and this 27-hour concert will demonstrate both aspects.”

Gonzales had been consulting with the Guiness Book of Record to ensure a smooth attempt and an Official Guinness Judge adjudicated the event on site. Repertoire touched on recognizable songs from all eras and styles of music, in new and surprising arrangements. There was no repetition of material during the attempt. As Gonzales himself said “I will break the record without sounding like a broken record”.

The record attempt took place at the theatre of notable French film director Claude Lelouch, Theatre Ciné 13 in Paris. The attempt in its entirety was streamed live on the web and achieved #2 Twitter Trend status at its peak.
