"Wu-Tang's Maneater" is the first track off of Ballin' Oates, my third EP focusing on remixes of classic artists. To create this track, I completely replayed and remixed "Maneater" by Hall & Oates, producing a new beat and flipping the instrumental. I then added the vocals from Wu-Tang's "C.R.E.A.M." The entire 5 track EP will be out later this week!

Having grown up with and on the internet, Martin Steer (1986) has transformed its pull into a concept album that is just as immediate and intangible as the digital world. Bad Stream is guitars and machines vanishing in the spaces between Radiohead, The Notwist and Nine Inch Nails only to reemerge amidst Ambient, Noise, and Drone. Bad Stream, then, is his modus operandi – a soundtrack to the feelings of resignation, isolation, and cynicism within neoliberal cyberspace and to that strangely numbing comfort of bodies transmuting into zeros and ones in real time.

 “I look at my phone even when I play guitar,” says Martin Steer, “and that isn’t even entirely voluntary. The 2010s really changed my perception of how digital technologies and social media affect me as a musician. Through Bad Stream I want to make sense of this particular kind of anxiety, and to use sensory overstimulation as a way to develop an independent and progressive musical language.” 

The past seven years took Martin and his laptop and guitar from Berlin to Mexico and Nepal and, as a founding member of Frittenbude, into the German charts and to various festival stages. And yet, Bad Stream is a “Berlin album,” with real drums and programmed beats, with shoegaze guitars, piano, smartphone synths, violins and field recordings from the darknet.

The first single is the album’s central piece: Already Dark is distinctly post-industrial in composition, commenting in its seven minutes on our accelerating world of face recognition, big data, species extinction, mind hacks and human uploads. It is a psycho collage about a time, where everything seems to be overheated, simulated and programmed - digital capitalism, polar icecaps, hypertransparent individuals dazed by networks and the total alienation by artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Already Dark is an anti-utopian hymn for a posthuman transition into digital slavery.

The music developed in dozens of recording sessions over a period of more than 2 years. It was inspired by artists like Health, Alessandro Cortini, Daniel Avery, Synthesizer Soundtracks and countless experimental/techno nights in berlin. The song connects styles like Electronica, Shoegaze and Pop Appeal with instruments like piano, theremin, the unique sound of the Tempest Drumsynth and Martin´s distinctive voice.

The mechanical beat pulsates and marches, acoustic and synthetic sounds melt into each other and shape this powerful but vulnerable construct which swells and swells - just till everything implodes in the peaks of a (post)brutal noise nirvana. In it´s eclectic and transformative artistic language Already Dark orchestrates the key-coordinates of Bad Streams vision of future-facing songwriting and progressive sound design.

The music video, produced by Fabian Tschöpl visualizes this very dark metamorphosis of the self and the world with all it´s details symbiotically with glitch techniques, 3D Body Scans and digital distortions.

Already Dark will be released on january 12th digitally including a radio edit and exciting remixes by long-time fellows of the ANTIME Records Cosmos (Felix Primc, Kaigy Etix, Simon Dübel, Dot, Unifono, Blurred Vision,  ^L_,)

'LANDLOPER' is Little People’s first release since 2015, where he returns with an album that is both beautiful and complex – much like the journey it took to release it.

In 2014, Laurent Clerc – aka Little People – decided to move to Portland, OR to allow himself to concentrate on writing new music. Laurent spent a fruitful year in Oregon, drawing inspiration from the wild beauty of the Pacific North West. Shortly after his move, a new EP and a successful 6-week North American tour opening for Odesza followed. It’s around this time that the first sketches of 'LANDLOPER' started to take shape.

For Laurent making music is all about the process – each sound used on his latest album were created with a technical idea in mind. Either with a modular synthesizer or using digital means, Laurent draws inspiration from the set of tools at his disposal. Electronic music is a giant playground to explore and tinker with. The new album has a warmth and lofi aesthetic that is at odds with Laurent’s meticulous nature – but everything has been crafted to be deliberately just so. Constantly looking to add imperfections to beautiful sounds – rendering them more abrasive and alive. There are contrasts between the lush string quartet arrangements and off kilter angular beats, with subtle details in each track which co-exist alongside broader melodic themes. The music on 'LANDLOPER' travels through a number of sonic palettes, borrowing elements from different sub-genres to eventually form a cohesive whole.

Laurent worked with a number of collaborators this time round – expanding beyond just instrumental works. Whilst in Portland he worked with Reva Devito (HW&W Recordings) whose vocals were chopped and re-purposed – providing a vocal thread throughout the whole album. Laurent also collaborated with Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne (Hejira, Matthew Herbert, Floating Points) making up three key songs on the album. The lead single track Skies Turn Blue which features Tif Lamson (GIVERS) was an effortless collaboration between 2 very different artists.
