Just as the sun returns to the Northern Hemisphere, Joachim Pastor get’s his Fixi road ready and takes us on a musical trip. Three free floating creations full of musical euphoria and funk filled grooves await! 

Starting off with the carefree “Fixi” track, which is based around a gently played acoustic guitar melody. Spheric effect work escorts feathery pads and strings, while the 4/4 house beat and thumping bassline keep things moving forward on the dancefloor.

Next up is the dreamy “Laos” song. Laid-back, slightly distorted synth and percussion sounds build smooth tension. The energy is fielded by a bright string section and completed by a mellow Marimba melody. 

Joachim is closing of this superb EP with the broken beat anthem “The Same”. A breathtaking field of panoramic sounds evolve over the course of four minutes. Pastor experiments with other worldly vocals and tight broken beats. Pure bliss!

“It took me only a few minutes to realise that André is one of these rare individuals that make you feel instantly “at home”… I understood quickly then that the music I discovered earlier on labels like Moods & Groove or Simple, was a real mirror of his soul…”
It is indeed on a cold day of that 2008 Berlin autumn that André & myself had a tea time & decided to work together. André decided spontaneously to record fresh material especially for the label, more than 6 months before our first release. This says a lot about the common trust that was born that day, much before the hype surrounded the man.

The result of this saw the light some weeks later in the form of Vehemence Of Silence, a track of indeniable power which breathes long years of djing & Berlin afterhours as much as uncovering close impressions of André’s emotional outcome. This is what made me feel that track like a whisper to my body & soul and what makes me so proud to release it today… More than 10 months down the line, André improved it, tested it on the floor till a final club listening session in the middle of the Berghain dancefloor where we both knew it was ready to be shared…

This special track needed of course outstanding alternative perspectives and it didn’t take me long to propose my old friends Martin Iveson & Danilo Plessow (both amongst André’s favorites) to give it their magic : Atjazz managed to bring the track in subtle afro territories twisted with early Prescription echoes while Motor City Drum Ensemble’s version translates an unexpected Techno jam reminiscent of the best early Soma days. The EP is completed by a fantastic dub by André himself and a second original called Dark Edge, a sophisticated & raw deep house joint.

Deviation is proud to welcome long time friend and collaborator @Waajeed to the label for their second release of 2019. The former Slum Village member & Dirt Tech Reck label founder presents four brand new tracks that once more showcase the Detroit-born producer's natural talent for creating house music with layers of soul, hip hop, R&B and jazz. 

As is always the case with Waajeed’s work, the EP is imbued with deeper meanings and concepts. When asked why he wanted to call the EP “Hocus Pocus”, Waajeed simply described what Magic means to him:

"Magic: the use of means to have supernatural power over natural forces. By definition music is magic. It has the power to incite peace and chaos. My new EP is called 'Hocus Pocus'. It's an acknowledgment and claiming of the authority of my music. Along with a select group of Detroit-based alchemists, we conjure a spell of that embodies the cycle of birth, death, love and interdimensional travel." - Waajeed

'Abracadbra' and 'Let Your Love' see the producer orchestrate a small cast of fellow Detroit musicians like DeSean Jones and Khristian Foreman. The music further adorned with Mark Flash of Underground Resistance on conga & bongos for 'Abracadabra', while Ideeyah brings a light touch to her vocal contribution to 'Let Your Love'. 'Lotta Bounce' and '32oz' meanwhile bring a tougher, club-ready edge with their sharp instrumental workouts.
