We continue with the excellent Odessa by Caribou and some 80’s gems from Konk and Serious Intention. Wajeed is on the remix for Ty and then we take an African journey with Pastor Mbhobho, Mujava, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra and a classic from Manu Dibango. Funky flavours both old and new before taking it right down with more Gil Scott Heron and a sweet soul selection before it turns nasty with Bassnectar, the Quemists and the Akira Kiteshi remix for Hexstatic.

DJ Moneyshot is up next holding class again. His latest mix, 'Heavenly Sunday Social at The Albany', is a tribute to the Chemical Brothers' legendary DJ residency at The Albany pub in London. Back in 1994 they were known as the Dust Brothers, and spun an emotional mix of rare Soul, classic Hip-Hop, Acid House and Psych Rock. Not to mention test pressings of their latest Dance/Indie crossover remixes, and fledgling original productions. Moneyshot has scoured discogs, sample-spotted, and dug-up magazines from back-in-the-day to get the inside scoop on the magic of this pre-Big Beat melting pot. In hour 2 Skywave Systems give us his 'Ban the mindreader' mix. Never one to settle on a specific sound or genre he has been a fan of electronica, hip hop, techno, electro and broken beats since the early nineties and this is reflected in most of his DJ sets. Ban The Mindreader was created around the 60s urban legend from the Medway Towns of daubed graffiti warning of a murdering computer and the need to ban the mind reader. The mix features samples picked to suit the theme and there are musical curveballs to keep the listener guessing.

This week DK's back after a short break and time to catch up on releases from the last few weeks. Recent guests The Simonsound kick off with their Jimmy Castor cover followed by Kei Kobayashi's version from a few years back and we continue with Janelle Monae, Diego And The Dissidents and a new remix from Naughty by Nature. A classic 12 from Ian Dury rides alongside a track from the excellent Caribou album and into Liquid Liquid's 'Cavern' before we pick it up with Trenchman and Nick Thayer. Noisia take it further courtesy of an Ed Rush & Optical remix and Subfocus gives Timewarp a nice VIP refresh before a 'Drumstep!' mix from Crissy Criss & Youngman. Messing with the thermostat this week are the Full Melt DJs. This Exeter-based collective have the Southwest on lock, and no finer set of club rockers are you likely to get your sweat on to. Comprising Ben Adams, Freddy Pimms and DJ Butterfingers, they make their Solid Steel debut in style. In the furnace tonight we have a fiery stack of smoldering hip-hop, breaks and beats from guaranteed hotsteppers Cut Chemist, Danny Breaks and Aquasky, amongst others. Lose a shirt, mop your brow and embrace the heat. Phew! What a scorcher.

Solid Steel Radio Show 2/7/2010 Part 1 + 2 - Full Melt

Solid Steel in association with Serato (30th July) DK takes charge of hour 1 and straight in with two hot new tracks from Big Dada. New signing DELS with the excellent 'Shapeshift' (and a great video to match), followed by the grandaddy of UK hip hop, Roots Manuva with at track from his upcoming EP alongside Wrongtom. A nod to Melvin Bliss (RIP) and his well sampled track 'Synthetic substitution', before we up the pace with Flore and Total Science & S.P.Y. Chali 2na hits the button marked dubstep, plus more wobbles from Cakeboy and Toddla T, remixed by Benga. Big Daddy Kane and PE represent the old skool (and a taste of the second hour) and it sounds like Fred Wesley's 'Blow your head' inspired an African version by 'Rob' on the superb Afro-Beat Airways compilation. Mount Kimbie, L VIS 1990, Sepalcure and Bunny on Acid bring the first hour to a lush close.
