Solid Steel in association with Serato (8th May) This week we welcome Rob Booth for a special Houndstooth label mix and it's a return for Luke Vibert on Solid Steel with a crazy mash-up mix. You can also listen to his archive mixes from 2003 and 2007 on the new Solid Steel website, plus his mix as Wagon Christ from 2001. http://www.solidsteel.net/

In Hour 2 it's Luke Vibert, a man of many monikers including Wagon Christ, Plug, Amen Andrews and Kerrier District, under which he recently released an album entitled 4 on Hypercolour. This is the first Kerrier District album in over 10 years since the Rephlex release back in 2004. Luke has been a guest at Solid Steel club nights over the years and this is his 5th mix, his music has been a firm fixture on the show for over 20 years. He's even turned out a version of the Solid Steel intro especially for us and not for the first time either. And so on to his mix for this week, with artist titles such as Ragga Houston, Drexipan and AFX Jackson, you know as always with Luke Vibert, you're in for something unexpected. When asked to sum up his mix, he simply said;
"It's sum of my stupid mash-ups put together!"

Solid Steel in association with Serato (10th July) We're delighted to welcome Prefuse 73 to the show, an artist who has been a firm fixture in the track lists on Solid Steel for many years under his different guises. His EP 'Every Colour of Darkness' is released today on Temporary Residence Ltd (following an album and EP earlier this year) and his mix delves into some choice 90's hip hop. He told us;
"This Solid Steel mix is more of an 'ode' in terms of inspiration. Despite being engaged in a wide scope of music, the majority of these songs reflect what I was listening to in high school & beyond. All of these songs have maintained relevance in terms of important moments in my life. Whether it’s a reminder of where I grew up geographically or straight up youthful nostalgia.
Either way, I’ve explored many avenues as an artist but hip hop ‘is' and always be at the forefront of all my work. 
There probably isn’t a better platform than 'Solid Steel' to put together a mix of some very recognizable & not so recognizable “CLASSICS” - so to speak. 
For the record; Not all_ but many of these songs carry a language of violence among other foul things. Even though I’ve cleaned up some offensive moments, I’d highly suggest putting a NSFW sticker over this mix and not playing it for your kids."

As part of the Ninja Tune 25th Anniversary, Matt Black said "We wanted to represent as many of the current Ninja Tune roster as possible and also throw a couple of classics from the archives into the mix, in addition to some influential and inspirational tracks"

To coincide with the launch of the documentary celebrating the history of the legendary Mo' Wax Records, we asked one of our favourite Montreal DJs, Phil Larochelle, to dive into the back catalogue and record a session consisting of his all-time favourites. 

The imprint founded in 1992 by James Lavelle was home to the some of the forward-thinking genre-defying beats. From DJ Krush to DJ Shadow, Motorbass to Unkle, the label was a melting-pot of Jazz, Hip Hop, Breaks, Trip Hop, Electronica and whatever else artists felt like putting on a slice of wax.

In his Bleep mix, LA beat scene savant The Gaslamp Killer builds outwards from a megamix of tracks that feature on his Heart Math LP. Eight pieces of that album’s psychedelic, brooding leftfield hip-hop style are blended together at the centre of this mix, with The Gaslamp Killer’s production aided by features from the likes of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and The Heliocentrics. In the sections either side of the Heart Math suite the listener is treated to a feast of far-out sonics, from astral found-sound experiments and soulful grooves to trippy prog-hop and fast, tweaking beat tracks. Natureboy Flako, Computer Jay and Mr. Oizo are just three artists who The Gaslamp Killer includes here, and things close out with another Heart Math number - in this instance the title-track. The overall effect is an hour of mind-expanding music which sounds as much like an intergalactic radio broadcast as it does a DJ mix
