Using Serato's Video-SL plug-in for Scratch Live, they mix, scratch and blend the sound AND vision for each track they play. Months were spent creating videos for each piece of music, either using the original source material or, in most cases sampling footage to create a new video entirely. Described as 'Video Turntablism', it has become a way for Food & DK to visualize their already legendary DJ sets. 
As usual, it's the diverse mix of music that they love and are known for, taking in current faves from Foreign Beggars & Noisia, Joy Orbison and Dorian Concept, but also plenty of classics that have kept dancefloors rocking from TTC, Pendulum, Luke Vibert, Think Tank and Z-Trip. Plus, Grace Jones, Archie Bell and sections from their two highly successful mix CD's that have Rakim rapping alongside the Human League and the Beat battling the drum and bass of Mask, and all in glorious video at the <a href="http://www.solidsteel.net">Solid Steel</a> website.

Clap! and Okmalumkoolkat produced by Cid Rim. Then it's classic Jeru getting the Sabre treatment, a track from the new Busdriver album 'Perfect Hair', Fracture remixing The 2 Bears and Yellowman from 1983. A mid tempo house selection follows with Airhead, Bok Bok & Tom Trago, Glenn Astro, Odesza and Martyn remixed by recent guest Seven Davis Jr. Dark Sky, George Duke and Gamma by Mono/Poly on Brainfeeder wrap up the first hour.

Skanking is a type of dance originating in Jamaica. It is common in performances of reggae and Ska (a form of Jamaican popular music that came before reggae). In order to skank, you first have to feel the beat of the music! Then tap your feet and start doing a “running man” motion with your legs.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (31st August) 3 years ago Solid Steel DJs Cheeba, Moneyshot and Food had the idea of collaborating on a version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources, shortly after Moneyshot aired his mix of their ‘Check Your Head’ album in the same way. 

Finally the result is here, titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ - each of them have taken a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more.

The mix was over half way completed when they heard the tragic news of MCA‘s death in May so the impetus to finish it was instantly doubled and new meaning given to the project. It goes without saying that this is also a tribute to Adam Yauch and the legacy he left behind and we hope it will be embraced by Beastie fans around the globe.
