Solid Steel (11th October) It's another warm up for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary show at Motion in Bristol tonight. DK rounds up some of his favourite tracks from  Daphni, Bonobo, Four Tet and Martyn, but we start with another spin for 'Chocolate orange' by Fulgeance. Then it's a nod to old skool hip hop from Rasheed Chappell and a nod to old skool rave from Mark Pritchard, Don Froth and the huge Special Request remix of Tessela's 'Hackney Parrot'. All this and some classic  Solid Steel tracks from Most Wanted, Meat Beat Manifesto, Timbaland, Missy Elliott and ending with the sublime 'Truth and Rights' by Johnny Osbourne.

Solid Steel Radio Show 11/10/2013 Part 1 + 2 - DK

Solid Steel (15th November) DK gets the show started with new music from Wiley, Special Request, Run The Jewels and Illum Sphere, plus original dub from The Revolutionaries and into the Loefah remix of 'i' for Skream from 2006. Then it's a switch into a superb new Stubborn Heart remix for Scrimshire, the lush deep house of North Lakes and into Carl Craig's classic rework of Cesaria Evora, before ending with a track from our first guest Pal Joey. 

The New York deep house pioneer has a 23 track anthology out now on BBE and fitting for our 25th Anniversary, we have an exclusive Pal Joey mix from 1987. We don't have a track list, but you'll hear music from Ralphi Rosario, Robert Owens and Class Action amongst others from that period.

Manu Archeo MO WAX 1994-'96 Tribute Mix

DK digs a little deeper into the vinyl vaults for the second half, starting with a boogie selection from Windy City, Universal Robot Band, Wickett and onto Buddy Miles, Don Thomas and two P & P classics from Queen Yahna and Florence. It's back to 1969 for killer Tropicalia from Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso, then Northern Soul at it's finest with Roy Roberts and a couple of funk 45's from The Touch and Backyard Heavies. We cross to Belgium for Placebo, Canada for electronic wizardry from L'Infonie and Czechoslovakia for Jazzrockova Dilna. David Axelrod crosses over with Charles Stepney's Rotary Connection,  followed by two modern soul classics from Michael Kiwanuka and Raphael Saadiq, before taking it down with Arnold Blair, The Prime Element, Gil Scott Heron and finishing with the sublime Irresistable Force mix of Autumn Leaves by Coldcut.

Solid Steel (13th December) It's another extended show this week as DK takes over proceedings with Part 2 of his Solid Steel retrospective mix. We kick off with a club selection from Dobie, Zed Bias & Mark Pritchard, LB, Grain and Airfrog on R & S from 2001. Then it's lush Techno from Space Continuum, Arthur Russell at the controls with Dinosaur L and Dan Snaith in his pre Caribou days as Manitoba. DK fav Cid Rim appears with his track Draw, plus Burial, two from Pearson Sound, Mouth from '82 and a DK retrospective wouldn't be complete without Herbie Hancock's Nobu from 1974, arguably the first ever Techno track. We continue through James Blake, Joy Orbison, Letherette, Eprom and The Brooklyn Allstars, before hitting classic jungle with Congo Natty and onto Drum & Bass from Ray Keith, Source Direct and Roni Size, and closing with reggae from Jah Screechy and Tenor Saw.

2013 Guest Mix of the Year goes to Four Tet with his 2 Hour takeover of Solid Steel in November..............


Four Tet's history with the show extends back to his first mix in 2001 and part of the Solid Steel US Tour that year with DJ Food, DK and Bonobo. He was also the first guest at the monthly Solid Steel club night in 2004, with more mixes to follow and his music has been consistently played on the show.

As with all our 25th Anniversary guests, we asked for something different and here's what he said about his mix;

"This mix is made from unofficial edits and mixes.  I guess these edits were mainly made to be played in clubs and I've always like the tradition of DJs extending and rearranging to make things work in their sets.  Most of the edits here are unreleased because they are just tools for DJs really.  The Black Unity one was done for the Solid Steel US tour that I did in 2001.  Thanks to Daphni, Floating Points and Happa for the edits I got from them."

Solid Steel Radio Show 20/12/2013 Part 3 + 4 - Four Tet

Solid Steel (17th January) DK steps up with his first mix of the year and it's a focus on new releases from the Ninja Tune family of labels including an exclusive from the forthcoming Illum Sphere album. First up it's the bonus track from the excellent Run the Jewels album featuring Q-Bert, followed by the Falty DL single 'Danger', Jessica Lauren from 2000 and Prime/Decent by Lee Bannon. Then it's African flavours both new and old, the recent Lone giveaway and the first play for 'Near the End' from the superb Illum Sphere album 'Ghosts of Then and Now', out on 10th Feb. Machinedrum gets the VIP treatment from Om Unit, followed by Actress, a Mr Scruff edit of Pusha T and more new music from Young Fathers on Big Dada and NameBrandSound on Technicolour. Solid Steel (18th April) It's all about Record Store Day this week and we've asked some of the finest Independent record stores in the UK to contribute mixes in a 6 way Soundclash.
First up it's <a href="http://www.roughtrade.com/">Rough Trade</a> and DJ Bobafatt has mixed up a diverse selection suggested by Rough Trade staff, including RSD releases by Eric Lau, Grace Jones and LCD Soundsystem, plus music from Younghusband and Amazing Snakeheads who will be playing at Rough Trade East on the day.

Solid Steel Radio Show 5/8/2011 Part 1 + 2 - DK

Solid Steel in association with Serato (23rd November) Parker opens the show this week with a mighty fine mix taking in all his current favs that you'll hear him spinning out and about. Photek & Kuru, Dobie and Hint start proceedings and we continue with heavy bass action from Randomer, Bassnectar and Shaka Sonics. Then it's drum and bass from S.P.Y., accapellas from Notorius B.I.G. and Brandy and a healthy dose of Parker's own productions to wrap it all up.
DJ Cheeba returns with another documentary style mix charting the huge influence and mass appeal of arguably the greatest rock band of all time: Led Zeppelin. This mix has been made to coincide with the release of 'Celebration Day' and digs chronologically through the band's first six albums (1969-1975), picking out key tracks, their influences, subsequent covers and some of the notable examples of where they were sampled in hip hop, dance music and pop.

Solid Steel (29th March) We open with Ninja Tune artist Falty DL and a mix of fine tracks starting with the wonderful 'Love me like this' by  Floating Points and into an unreleased cut from the man himself. Then it's the first of two tracks from Mr Richard D James, as AFX on Rephlex to start and Pulsewidth as Aphex Twin later. In between there's music from Theo Parrish, Luke Vibert, MFSB and Moodymann, plus some afrobeat magic from Tony Allen.
Robin from Hexstatic is up next with the new track 'Cirrus' from Bonobo (check the amazing video) and into a new release from the ever lush Lusine on Ghostly International. Some nice house action from Huxley and Soul Reazon and then new fav Dusky with 'What I Need'. Waze and Odyssey pump it up party style and then into the classic voice of Robert Owens brought up to date by Mosca, before closing with a great booty of Lauryn Hill switching the lyrics up from Golden Boy.
