Solid Steel (17th January) DK steps up with his first mix of the year and it's a focus on new releases from the Ninja Tune family of labels including an exclusive from the forthcoming Illum Sphere album. First up it's the bonus track from the excellent Run the Jewels album featuring Q-Bert, followed by the Falty DL single 'Danger', Jessica Lauren from 2000 and Prime/Decent by Lee Bannon. Then it's African flavours both new and old, the recent Lone giveaway and the first play for 'Near the End' from the superb Illum Sphere album 'Ghosts of Then and Now', out on 10th Feb. Machinedrum gets the VIP treatment from Om Unit, followed by Actress, a Mr Scruff edit of Pusha T and more new music from Young Fathers on Big Dada and NameBrandSound on Technicolour. Finally it's a great Cid Rim remix for Andreya Triana, second spin for the Maya Jane Coles remix for Bonobo and a big favourite from last year by North Lakes on Phonica.

Solid Steel (14th February) Deft is our guest in Hour 1 with a mix in 3 parts with extra bits of field recordings and recordings from his phone. In his own words;
"First section is a selection of tracks I found when digging through my digital and physical crates, tracks that made an impact on me musically and personally, almost like flicking through my own head-radio, if that makes sense... The second section is a little ambient trip, the calm before the storm if you will, and the last section is what I'm currently feeling and playing out in the footwork/jungle/dnb world. 
Theres lots of new material in there from myself, friends and people I've met along the way, so hopefully as a whole the mix is a good representation of where I'm at musically and personally."

Solid Steel (21st March) It's two guests in Hour 1 starting with the return of Neuropol ahead of the release of his new EP on Monday. It's a mix that took in a snapshot of the vast array of music that has inspired him in his own productions and it also includes a couple of cuts from his forthcoming Warning Ep on SGN:LTD. As with his productions he focused on the contrast between emotion/depth and tough beats and bass, with tracks from Moresounds, Fracture, Sam Binga and DBridge.

Solid Steel Radio Show 28/3/2014 Part 1 + 2 - DK

Solid Steel (26th December) The votes have been counted and the listeners choice of Solid Steel 'Mix of the Year 2014' goes to Clap! Clap!, with runners up Maribou State, Catching Flies and Matt Berry. Congratulations to Aanand Davé, who was the lucky winner of the Ninja Tune prize and here once again are the most popular mixes.

We start with Clap! Clap! from March and this mix showcases his musical style of researching and sampling tribes, bands and singers originating from the African continent with unreleased tracks, collaborations and remixes. Plus there's music from Italian film score legend Piero Umiliani, H-Sik, Debruit, DJ Earl and new Ninja Tune signing, Romare.
Maribou State also appeared in March with a beautiful mix and although no tracklist at the time, listeners soon worked out that it featured Andrew Ashong, Bibio, Jungle, Four Tet remix of Grimes and Maribou State confirmed that it included one of their unreleased tracks.

DK returns to the show with 'Cymatic Frequencies II' and as before it's another AV mix. This is Part 1 of 'Best of 2011', taking personal favourites from his mixes this year and adding suitable and sometimes breathtaking visuals to compliment the audio. This Video Mixtape includes a few of the artists Original video's but in most cases visuals have been sourced from animation, CGI, Short Films, archive footage and edited to each track in the mix. Some of the 2011 musical highlights include Africa Hitech, Machinedrum, Peverelist, Skream, Pearson Sound, Thundercat, Michael Kiwanuka and the Stepkids, plus there's a few dips into the archive with Wayne Smith, Tribe of Issachar, Herbie Hancock, Burial and Vangelis. DJ Food looks back once again for our 25th Anniversary slot taking 'Free Comic Book Day' (this Saturday, May 4th) as his theme to present tracks that feature references to comic book characters. The Marvel and DC worlds of Superman, Batman and Spiderman feature heavily with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Cliff Richard revealing their passion for Caped Crusaders and Wall Crawlers. But the more obscure feature too with three nods to Judge Dredd, two for Flash Gordon and even Elton John singing the praises of Dan Dare. DJ Food will have a piece of artwork in a new exhibition called Image Duplicator - looking at the original comic artists that Lichtenstein copied for his most famous work - opening on May 16th at Orbital Comics in London.
