Solid Steel (6th December) It's a specially extended session this week as we prepare for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary night in London tonight with two of the DJ's that are playing. 
DK steps up with the first part of his own retrospective on his time at Solid Steel. Having started on the show in 1997 and over 400 mixes later, here is just a few personal favourites starting in '97 with Data and the Underdog remix, aka Trevor Jackson who is another artist playing tonight. Then it's early 90's hip hop from Jeru, OC, Pharcyde and Crooklyn Dodgers, before Steve Reich and a nod to The Orb, (also playing tonight) followed by two epic vocal outings from Andreya Triana and Lamb. It's a few Jazz, Latin and African selections including the Fela cover by Johnny Rodrigues, which got DK his first offer to do a mix by Coldcut. After that we get through more gems from Caribou, Zomby, Bobby Konders, Fink, Radiohead and 3 appearances from Four Tet, our special guest tonight, before closing on the obscure Dr Philter Banx from 1975. The second half of this mix will be next week.........

DJ Food & DK with the audio part of their "Now, Look & Listen" video mix, that they perform live on 4 decks and 3 mixers. Check out the <a href="http://www.solidsteel.net">Solid Steel</a> website or the 'Track video' button above, for the full video mix. 
Using Serato's Video-SL plug-in for Scratch Live, they mix, scratch and blend the sound AND vision for each track they play. Months were spent creating videos for each piece of music, either using the original source material or, in most cases sampling footage to create a new video entirely. Described as 'Video Turntablism', it has become a way for Food & DK to visualize their already legendary DJ sets. 
As usual, it's the diverse mix of music that they love and are known for, taking in current faves from Foreign Beggars & Noisia, Joy Orbison and Dorian Concept, but also plenty of classics that have kept dancefloors rocking from TTC, Pendulum, Luke Vibert, Think Tank and Z-Trip. Plus, Grace Jones, Archie Bell and sections from their two highly successful mix CD's that have Rakim rapping alongside the Human League and the Beat battling the drum and bass of Mask, and all in glorious video at the <a href="http://www.solidsteel.net">Solid Steel</a> website.

This is a mix I put together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Massive Attack's third album 'Mezzanine', focusing mainly on tracks & breaks used on the Bristol group's first three albums.

This was broadcast on The Huey Show's Block Party on BBC 6 Music, Sat 22nd April 2023 (Record Store Day). This version contains the 27 minute mix that was aired, as well as an additional segment at the end that was chopped for time.

Tip top night at Band on the Wall in Manchester, to celebrate 15 years of my Manchester 'Keep It Unreal' residency. MC Kwasi was down on a night out, but couldn't resist a little mic session. Since April, this night has been a 'Non-Mobile Disco'.. no mobiles on the dance floor. Really helped the atmosphere, and we will carry on with this approach from now on. Cheeba returns with a mix more typical of his live DJ sets. Setting out on some re-edited trip hop from the likes of Depth Charge and Waxfactor leading through to more upbeat dance floor devastation from Diplo, Afrika Bambaataa and Peter Parker. From the Ninja catalogue, The Slew and Scruff jostle for space with King Cannibal and two edits from DJ Food's recent EPs. Typically layered and cut up this is Cheeba back on a short break from his video adventures.

DJ Moneyshot is up next holding class again. His latest mix, 'Heavenly Sunday Social at The Albany', is a tribute to the Chemical Brothers' legendary DJ residency at The Albany pub in London. Back in 1994 they were known as the Dust Brothers, and spun an emotional mix of rare Soul, classic Hip-Hop, Acid House and Psych Rock. Not to mention test pressings of their latest Dance/Indie crossover remixes, and fledgling original productions. Moneyshot has scoured discogs, sample-spotted, and dug-up magazines from back-in-the-day to get the inside scoop on the magic of this pre-Big Beat melting pot.
