Solid Steel (13th September) We welcome London Elektricity to the show having appeared 4 times from '99 to 2002 and as always, we wanted something a little different. Here in his own words;
"I'm known for being a d&b DJ who leans towards the eccentric side, so here's a mix that represents the weird and wonderful music that keeps me from falling asleep whilst driving home from a night club. Most of these records were blind purchases - or should that be deaf purchases - I bought the records on the strength of the artwork alone, usually featuring improbably large breasted and frankly weird looking women silhouetted against a backdrop of Hawaii. This is music to perhaps help you dream of summer, or maybe to prepare you for your own demise. That not withstanding remember this: I know what it is to be young, but you, you don't know what it is to be old."

Solid Steel Radio Show 13/9/2013 Part 1 + 2 - London Elektricity

DK digs a little deeper into the vinyl vaults for the second half, starting with a boogie selection from Windy City, Universal Robot Band, Wickett and onto Buddy Miles, Don Thomas and two P & P classics from Queen Yahna and Florence. It's back to 1969 for killer Tropicalia from Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso, then Northern Soul at it's finest with Roy Roberts and a couple of funk 45's from The Touch and Backyard Heavies. We cross to Belgium for Placebo, Canada for electronic wizardry from L'Infonie and Czechoslovakia for Jazzrockova Dilna. David Axelrod crosses over with Charles Stepney's Rotary Connection,  followed by two modern soul classics from Michael Kiwanuka and Raphael Saadiq, before taking it down with Arnold Blair, The Prime Element, Gil Scott Heron and finishing with the sublime Irresistable Force mix of Autumn Leaves by Coldcut.

In Hour 2, to coincide with Luke Vibert playing at the last I love Acid and 20 years of releasing music, we feature a retrospective mix done by Lexis from the excellent Music is my Santuary. In his own words;
"Doing a tribute mix to Luke Vibert and his multiple production pseudonyms is not a challenge I took lightly. His versatility is what drew me into electronic music in my youth and he has in my opinion one the most diverse bodies of work in recent electronic music history, through Moody Abstract Hip-Hop, Acid House, Disco, Drum & Bass and House. I wanted to do this mix because a lot of people might know Luke Vibert from one of his multiple personas without connecting the dots with the other projects. Big respect to Luke Vibert and all his split personalities."

Future Shock was a 2hr mix that DJ Food cooked up for an online 'pirate' radio station a couple of friends set up earlier this year called Altar Ego Radio. Billed as 'Music from the Future you remember from your Past', he mixed sci-fi electronica with a retro feel from Jokers of the Scene, Falty DL. The Books, Sculpture, Nico Motte and Jeremy Schmidt. Here's the first hour, exclusively sans the chat of the original broadcast which was hosted like a regular radio show. Much like his recent Magpie Music mix of a few weeks ago he intends to expand on these themes in forthcoming Future Shock mixes focussing on the more electronic side of his current tastes. Solid Steel (9th January) DK is back for his first mix of 2015 and after a brief intro from Doug Carn, it's straight into a batch of forthcoming music from Glenn Astro & Max Graef, Dan Snake and Anthony Naples from his album coming out on Four Tet's Text label. It's another spin for the huge Roots by Romare and classic deep house from 1995 from Marc Kinchen and Chez Damier under his Andthoney alias. 
Mix of the Year winner Clap! Clap! is remixed by Lurka Obeah, followed by a host of giveaways from Seven Davis Jr, Alex Patchwork, Photay and the Hudson Mohawke remix of Four Tet. Then more new music with Soundbwoy Killah and Beat Spacek with a track from the Modern Streets album out in 2 weeks, plus there's always time for another Fela Kuti track.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (23rd November) Parker opens the show this week with a mighty fine mix taking in all his current favs that you'll hear him spinning out and about. Photek & Kuru, Dobie and Hint start proceedings and we continue with heavy bass action from Randomer, Bassnectar and Shaka Sonics. Then it's drum and bass from S.P.Y., accapellas from Notorius B.I.G. and Brandy and a healthy dose of Parker's own productions to wrap it all up.
DJ Cheeba returns with another documentary style mix charting the huge influence and mass appeal of arguably the greatest rock band of all time: Led Zeppelin. This mix has been made to coincide with the release of 'Celebration Day' and digs chronologically through the band's first six albums (1969-1975), picking out key tracks, their influences, subsequent covers and some of the notable examples of where they were sampled in hip hop, dance music and pop.

irked vol. 2: Boy What A Headache (2010)

DJ Food turns back the clock in our 25th Anniversary slot and following a request for an old school Hip Hop set for the De:Tuned party in Antwerp earlier this week, Strictly Kev put this special party mix together to rock the dancefloor. Solid Steel however gets an exclusive to kick things off in the form of excerpts from his first ever recorded mix, unheard by anyone except close friends and hidden on tape for 25 years.
Back in '87 his DJ (and graffiti) name was D-Vice and the 'Soundlab mix' (named after his 2nd mixer, made by Soundlab) was made between 1987-88 on his first two belt-driven decks (only one with a pitch control) and a pause button tape deck. A Strictly Old School Special.

Solid Steel Radio Show 19/4/2013 Part 3 + 4 - DJ Food

Solid Steel (17th May) DK opens this week with a track off the awesome Thundercat album and into Ten Tigers from Bonobo, the return of Slum Village and back to '95 for T Power & MK Ultra. Then it's another spin for the Machinedrum mix of Clissold, Leatherette (who are also playing at the Roundhouse), Joy Orbison and Owiny Sigoma Band. African and Latin rhythms take over with Irakere, Roberto Roena, Four Tet remixing Rocket Number Nine and Azymuth ahead of their UK tour next month. The beats turn heavy with Spatial, Dorian Concept, Walter Ego and two from Die & Addison Groove, before BRTSH KNIGHTS and Ronnie McNeir add a soulful slant. And with the Fela Kuti tribute show also happening this weekend in London, we feature a 1975 cover version from Johnny Rodrigues and a track from the legend himself, off the suitably titled 'Fela's London Scene' album recorded at Abbey Road.
