"I'm known for being a d&b DJ who leans towards the eccentric side, so here's a mix that represents the weird and wonderful music that keeps me from falling asleep whilst driving home from a night club. Most of these records were blind purchases - or should that be deaf purchases - I bought the records on the strength of the artwork alone, usually featuring improbably large breasted and frankly weird looking women silhouetted against a backdrop of Hawaii. This is music to perhaps help you dream of summer, or maybe to prepare you for your own demise. That not withstanding remember this: I know what it is to be young, but you, you don't know what it is to be old."

Robin Hexstatic in Hour 2 this week with a bass heavy selection and celebrating the release of 2 tracks from his new RobHex project. Starting with some lovely remixes from the likes of Psychemagik and Cause and Effect,..there’s also the pounding Robert Babicz remix of Hardfloor’s classic acid anthem. The first of two RobHex tracks and into a fresh new track from the ever brilliant DJ Zinc. Phuture and Bart B More bring the heavy acid and into a bouncing remix of Au Seve from The Stantons and classic cut up vocals from Taches. A bassline remix of DJ Kentaro leads to the classically relentless La Mouche from Cassius,..and on into another new RobHex track. We finish with a double header of reggae infused breakbeat heavies from 601 ft Ragga Twins and Congo Natty.

Solid Steel Radio Show 18/10/2013 Part 3 + 4 - Hexstatic

Future Shock was a 2hr mix that DJ Food cooked up for an online 'pirate' radio station a couple of friends set up earlier this year called Altar Ego Radio. Billed as 'Music from the Future you remember from your Past', he mixed sci-fi electronica with a retro feel from Jokers of the Scene, Falty DL. The Books, Sculpture, Nico Motte and Jeremy Schmidt. Here's the first hour, exclusively sans the chat of the original broadcast which was hosted like a regular radio show. Much like his recent Magpie Music mix of a few weeks ago he intends to expand on these themes in forthcoming Future Shock mixes focussing on the more electronic side of his current tastes. 'This is a Journey into Beats 'n' Frames' famously riffs off of two classic Coldcut trademarks and checks the render setting to 'highest'. St. Petersburg's Mr Armtone becomes only the second person to have a guest AV mix on Solid Steel, supplying a packed hour with his trademark tight mixes and equally syncopated imagery . Each video has undergone his own edits, remixes and tweaks and the quality is top notch throughout. It features music and visuals from the Ninja Tune stable with Daedelus, Hexstatic, Diplo, DJ Kentaro and Coldcut all making an appearance, plus more from Tipper, Ian Brown and the Pixies remixed by Bassnectar.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (23rd November) Parker opens the show this week with a mighty fine mix taking in all his current favs that you'll hear him spinning out and about. Photek & Kuru, Dobie and Hint start proceedings and we continue with heavy bass action from Randomer, Bassnectar and Shaka Sonics. Then it's drum and bass from S.P.Y., accapellas from Notorius B.I.G. and Brandy and a healthy dose of Parker's own productions to wrap it all up.
DJ Cheeba returns with another documentary style mix charting the huge influence and mass appeal of arguably the greatest rock band of all time: Led Zeppelin. This mix has been made to coincide with the release of 'Celebration Day' and digs chronologically through the band's first six albums (1969-1975), picking out key tracks, their influences, subsequent covers and some of the notable examples of where they were sampled in hip hop, dance music and pop.

Solid Steel Radio Show 23/11/2012 Part 1 + 2 - Parker + DJ Cheeba

Solid Steel in association with Serato (21st December) The votes are in and it's been a tight contest, but the Solid Steel Mix of the Year 2012 as voted by the listeners, goes to Banks and his mix from October. We take another listen to part of his mix and first up it's his transformation of The Keeper by Bonobo and then onto Deco Child, the excellent Anti-Pop Consortium remixed by Four Tet, before dropping his second remix which is a sublime rework of 'Lost where I belong' by Andreya Triana. The mix continues to flow with Modeselektor, Orbital from '94, Lusine and the collaboration between Four Tet, Burial and Thom Yorke. 
DJ Irk sets us up for Xmas with a few seasonal snippets, alongside music from Kraddy, Q-Tip, Method Man and Koan Sound, plus classics from Al Green and the Beastie Boys. 

Congratulations to Maikel Houtkamp from the Netherlands, who wins the bumper prize from Serato, Ninja Tune and Solid Steel. The list of runners up will be available soon on the Solid Steel website.

Solid Steel Radio Show 21/12/2012 Part 1 + 2 - Banks + DJ Irk

Your favourite Hexstatic mix appeared in October starting with Sol Heilo's wonderful rework of Sbtrkt’s 'Hold On' blending into the beautiful and much overlooked Luke Abbott and his dreamy electronica. Then it's classic, stripped back house from Backroom Productions mixing with a spot of 'Intercourse' from HaHaHa & Raksha. More uplifting music from Jack Dixon and into classic Four Tet from his collected 12"s on 'Pink'. A lovely remix of Koreless' Lost In Tokyo drops into two banging remixes of Adam F's 'Circles' from Eats Everything and PhillpDKick to close this section.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular mix for DJ Cheeba, DJ Moneyshot and DJ Food was their epic version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ . Each of them took a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more. The full mix was broadcast in August, it has over 70K plays on Soundcloud, it was featured in the Guardian and LA Times and blogged all over the world.

This wraps up a vintage year for Solid Steel and in 2013 we celebrate 25 Years of broadcasting 'The Broadest Beats', since the show began on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. Watch this space..............
