Your favourite Hexstatic mix appeared in October starting with Sol Heilo's wonderful rework of Sbtrkt’s 'Hold On' blending into the beautiful and much overlooked Luke Abbott and his dreamy electronica. Then it's classic, stripped back house from Backroom Productions mixing with a spot of 'Intercourse' from HaHaHa & Raksha. More uplifting music from Jack Dixon and into classic Four Tet from his collected 12"s on 'Pink'. A lovely remix of Koreless' Lost In Tokyo drops into two banging remixes of Adam F's 'Circles' from Eats Everything and PhillpDKick to close this section.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular mix for DJ Cheeba, DJ Moneyshot and DJ Food was their epic version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ . Each of them took a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more. The full mix was broadcast in August, it has over 70K plays on Soundcloud, it was featured in the Guardian and LA Times and blogged all over the world.

This wraps up a vintage year for Solid Steel and in 2013 we celebrate 25 Years of broadcasting 'The Broadest Beats', since the show began on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. Watch this space..............

We move into Hour 2 and for our 25th Anniversary we encouraged guests to deliver something different. This week Luke Vibert (who has appeared many times on the show) does exactly that with a high octane opening section showcasing the edit kings from the late eighties. Often found on the b-side of club records, editors such as Omar Santana, Carlos Berrios,  Chep Nunez and the Latin Rascals transformed tracks with quick fire cuts for artists like Rochelle, Corina, Bad Boy Orchestra, Stone and Sweet Sensation who are all featured and we get a Luke Vibert treatment on top. Brand New Funk and Ethel Beatty offer a respite from all this, as well as a sublime gospel track from Pastor TL Barrett, before closing with Omar Souleyman, Tipper and Tomita.
