Over 60 blistering minutes he takes in all the beats, breaks, samples and spoken word nuggets that made this seminal Bomb Squad production such an explosive release. Amongst the vast stack of tracks in the mix, expect words of wisdom from Louis Farrakhan, exclusive interviews with Hank Shocklee, and all the soul, rock 'n' roll and early rap tracks that went into making up P.E's (if not hip-hop's) finest album. "Instead of doing yet another promo mix that incorporates a song or two from our new album, I thought it would be fun for me & Phill to each do a 30 minute mix of Hip Hop from our respective areas. I'm from Southampton, and since that's not a very big place I thought it would be more fitting to play some of my favourite old UK Hip Hop records. Philadelphia always had a healthy Hip Hop scene that boasted famous artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, Cash Money & Marvelous and Steady B just to name a few. Solid Steel (25th April) 20 years ago Nas released his legendary Illmatic album and DJ Moneyshot has put together an outstanding tribute mix 'Nas - Half-Man Half-Amazing'. As with the previous tribute mixes for the Beastie Boys, De La Soul and Public Enemy, it's more an audio documentary threading together sample sources, interview footage and remixes alongside the original Illmatic tracks. Hear the vocabulary, the flow and the rhythm expertly delivered by Nas, backed up by the sublime production of Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Large Professor and Q-Tip, plus original samples from Lee Erwin, The Heath Brothers, Ahmad Jamal and Reuben Wilson. All this deconstructed and rebuilt by Moneyshot for another classic Solid Steel edition.

Bio:

Deep down the path of music another skin has been shed. The traits of a chameleon and the versatility of nature aligned the frequencies to pulsate into resonance. ARTERIAM is an experimental electronic project mixing mathematics of tempo with modular synthesis and filtering in mandalic expressions. It focuses on the subconscious side of the mind instead of the lead role of commercial focused music. 
ARTERIAM is now living in Berlin, Germany in which time will tell where this music can lead. ARTERIAM is born in Guatemala, land of the Mayans and Mysteries. Keep tuned in to listen. This music will have the only constant in the universe...change

Solid Steel in association with Serato (31st August) 3 years ago Solid Steel DJs Cheeba, Moneyshot and Food had the idea of collaborating on a version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources, shortly after Moneyshot aired his mix of their ‘Check Your Head’ album in the same way. 

Finally the result is here, titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ - each of them have taken a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more.

The mix was over half way completed when they heard the tragic news of MCA‘s death in May so the impetus to finish it was instantly doubled and new meaning given to the project. It goes without saying that this is also a tribute to Adam Yauch and the legacy he left behind and we hope it will be embraced by Beastie fans around the globe.

Solid Steel Radio Show 31/8/2012 Part 1 + 2 - DJ Cheeba + DJ Moneyshot + DJ Food

3 years in the making, 3 DJs working with over 150 tracks to recreate one of the seminal sampling albums of all time. Cheeba, Moneyshot and I bring you ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’, our tribute to the classic Beastie Boys album ‘Paul’s Boutique’. Remixed and re-imagined from all the original samples plus a cappellas, period interviews and the Beasties’ own audio commentary from the reissued release.

Add to this a custom illustration from Paul’s Boutique super-fan and all-round great guy Jim Mahfood, and you have an alternate version of the album. The mix was over half way finished when we heard the tragic news of Adam Yauch‘s passing this May so this is also our nod to his memory, RIP MCA.

Big respect to Cheeba and Moneyshot for all their hard work and for the latter for inspiring the project with his classic mix of their ‘Check Your Head’ three years ago. Obviously massive respect goes out to The Beasties, The Dust Brothers, Mario C. and all involved in the making of the original album.

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.
