Then it's a dancehall classic from Johnny Osbourne over the Sleng Teng riddim and new music from H-SIK and Dawn Day Night splicing up Foster Sylvers, before unleashing the sublime gospel vocals of Pastor T.L. Barrett. We also hear a track from the new Ras G album on Brainfeeder,  music from our guest in Hour 2 Paul White, the soulful voice of Peven Everett and latin jazz from Roberto De La Barrera and the Alegre Allstars.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (15 th May) In Hour 2, Joe Muggs makes his second appearance on Solid Steel. Having written more about electronic music than most via The Wire, Mixmag, The Arts Desk, Fact and now at Boiler Room, he turns in a headmelt ambient mix. He had this to say;

"This is me alone in the house with a bottle of whisky, three decks, a stack of records, an echo unit, and a note to myself saying "NO BEATMATCHING". All live, one take only. The lack of tracklist isn't for secrecy's sake but because I forgot what I'd played. It was heavily inspired by hazy memories of old Alex Paterson DJ sets, and by a general sense of dissociation. A friend told me they love this mix because it helped them feel closer to someone close to them who's in a coma: definitely one of the strangest compliments I've ever had."

Solid Steel (23rd September) In Hour 1 DJ Food graces us with the third of his Future Shock mixes, a collection of retro-futuristic sounds from the past and present that he premiered at the recent Videocrash night in London. It sees classics from Gary Numan, Mr Fingers, Grandmaster Flash, Bam Bam, S'Express and Herbie Hancock given a 21st Century update and a healthy dose of acid. Recent Solid Steel guests and Mercury Prize nominees The Comet Is Coming dual with Darth Vader's theme and Boards of Canada get a sweet vocal addition from Bomb The Bass.

Solid Steel (20th April) In Hour 1 we welcome Venetian composer, musician, producer, and polymath Gigi Masin. Before he started producing in the 1980s, culminating in the release of his cult 1987 debut Wind, Venetian ambient maestro Gigi Masin experimented with sound as a radio host and sound designer for theatres in the 1970s. 
In 2014, recent guests Music From Memory released Talk To The Sea, a retrospective of the past 30 years of Gigi’s output, and it marked the start of the wider
recognition Gigi so richly deserved. Through the label, Gigi met British producer and label head Jonny Nash (from Melody as Truth) and cult Dutch DJ and producer Marco Sterk (alias Young Marco), forming the trio Gaussian Curve and releasing their debut Clouds on the label in 2015 and he recently released a seven track LP on Bandcamp called KITE. The same passion that later drove his production – his innate and rebellious musicality – drove his selections, and drive them again on this exclusive mix made from his beloved 7-inches, some of which he says “haven’t been played since the 80s”. Equal parts psychedelic, prismatic, moody, wistful, and downright funky, these are the 7-inches that Gigi loves the most: “for me, 7-inches are pure joy – as objects and souvenirs, improving the beauty and happiness that music can give us”.
You can catch Gigi at the Jazz Cafe in London on 10th May.

Part 2. Track notes: 
These recordings are taken from cassettes, DAT tapes & CDRs so the quality and fidelity varies, there’s tape hiss, the odd drop out and distortion but that’s the way they came out. PC remastered a few bits and pieces and some tracks are edits / re-edits. Lots of these versions aren’t fully mixed down or mastered in anyway either but I like that rawness. 

The late, great John Peel evidently liked the album, playing several tracks over the weeks preceding the album's release, even asking us in for a session (see the debut Mixcloud Select upload) I’ve included a few of his comments from broadcasts only recently found online.
