In Hour 2 we welcome Stephen Mallinder, a founding member of the hugely influential Cabaret Voltaire, who were pioneers in British experimental electronic, industrial music and visual art. He joins the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary celebrations and says of his mix ;

"A selection of music from peers, associates, co-conspirators, influences and baton-carriers. Starting with early head-turners This Heat (1978) and filtered  through the mix claps from composer Steve Reich (1972) onto post-punkers 23 Skidoo who I'd gigged and recorded with. 
A couple of FSOL tracks - covert Cabs somewhere in there and back up north to Sheffield's first real label WARP - the original Forgemasters reworked by bleepers Unique 3, The Black Dog posse and sonic provocateurs supreme, Autechre. An offering from my own Cabaret Voltaire - a rework of Yashar with the original 70 billion people sample. Keith le Blanc and co - Major Malfunction, classic tough electro, there's a whole history from Sugarhill to Tackhead in there. And rounded  off with our one-time co-conspiritor On-U's Adrian Sherwood's mix of metal-machiners Einstürzende Neubauten, complete with sniff sample.

All spiced with some period spoken word courtesy of Malcolm X, Mr Burroughs and JG Ballard stories and lovingly mixed by hand.

Based around the theme of 'Psychesploitation' - a mix of funky 70's cop soundtracks and fuzzed up Blacksploitation flicks - it's the sound of Get Carter's swinging London and the sleazy San Francisco of Dirty Harry. DJ Food takes us down a dark, synthetic future route full of esoteric pieces more at home in sci-fi soundtracks and public information films. Tracks feature from compilations, 'The Sound of Belgium', 'Music Sans Frontiers' and 'Space Oddities' as does music from the new Richard Norris/Luke Insect collaboration Dark Seed.

Our next guest is @mr-scruff , who released his Solid Steel mix CD in 2004 and has clocked up more hours DJing with his extended sets than anyone else. He'll be playing a 4 hour vinyl set with Illum Sphere tonight and here we're treated to another sublime selection to get us in the mood. Opening with Jean Grae, Mos Def and Black Milk, then into the lush vocals of Sweet Charles and Rufas & Chaka Khan. Then we touch down in Brazil with Arthur Verocai and Africa with Os Kiezos Orchestre Super Poly Rythmo De Cotonou and Manu Dibango, plus loads more from Roy Ayers, Hudson People Sam Most and an excellent version of Voodoo Ray by the Melodians Steel Orchestra.

Solid Steel (6th December) It's a specially extended session this week as we prepare for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary night in London tonight with two of the DJ's that are playing. 
DK steps up with the first part of his own retrospective on his time at Solid Steel. Having started on the show in 1997 and over 400 mixes later, here is just a few personal favourites starting in '97 with Data and the Underdog remix, aka Trevor Jackson who is another artist playing tonight. Then it's early 90's hip hop from Jeru, OC, Pharcyde and Crooklyn Dodgers, before Steve Reich and a nod to The Orb, (also playing tonight) followed by two epic vocal outings from Andreya Triana and Lamb. It's a few Jazz, Latin and African selections including the Fela cover by Johnny Rodrigues, which got DK his first offer to do a mix by Coldcut. After that we get through more gems from Caribou, Zomby, Bobby Konders, Fink, Radiohead and 3 appearances from Four Tet, our special guest tonight, before closing on the obscure Dr Philter Banx from 1975. The second half of this mix will be next week.........
