Ever since I saw the first remake of Night of the Living Dead as a teenager, I’ve had the undead hunt me in my sleep. It often revolves around my loved ones and almost every time I hold a shotgun (THE quintessential zombie mauling device). Even though my family and friends usually get eaten alive or killed in gruesome ways, I always wake up feeling invigorated and happy. I guess popular culture destroyed me after all."

 We continue our review of 2011 looking back at the most popular mixes by the Solid Steel resident DJ's, as voted by you the listeners. Again 'In no particular order', we start with DK's first 'Cymatic Frequencies' mix from January (that also came with an AV mix). Kidkanevil, Ramadanman and Maddslinky remixed Toddla T all feature, alongside a Ninja Trio and a Big Dada double, plus James Blake, Caribou and Bassnectar.

The Hexstatic mix that also appeared in January, was your favourite with the classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. SBTRKT's remix of Modeselektors 'Art&Cash' leads perfectly into maierial from Robin Hexstatic's project, plus music from  Magnetic Man, Andreya Triana and Dave Angel.

In his Bleep mix, LA beat scene savant The Gaslamp Killer builds outwards from a megamix of tracks that feature on his Heart Math LP. Eight pieces of that album’s psychedelic, brooding leftfield hip-hop style are blended together at the centre of this mix, with The Gaslamp Killer’s production aided by features from the likes of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and The Heliocentrics. In the sections either side of the Heart Math suite the listener is treated to a feast of far-out sonics, from astral found-sound experiments and soulful grooves to trippy prog-hop and fast, tweaking beat tracks. Natureboy Flako, Computer Jay and Mr. Oizo are just three artists who The Gaslamp Killer includes here, and things close out with another Heart Math number - in this instance the title-track. The overall effect is an hour of mind-expanding music which sounds as much like an intergalactic radio broadcast as it does a DJ mix
