WAGON CHRIST 'TOOMORROW' new album out on Ninja Tune - 14 March (EU) / 29 March (NA).

The one and only Luke Vibert returns to the fray under his most celebrated and wondrous moniker, Wagon Christ (to clarify, he is not under a wagon. Nor on one. Nor is he, strictly speaking, Christ, though we can’t rule out his messianic status). The king of stoned exotica, ridiculous vocal samples, toothsome puns, swinging rhythm and the psychedelic groove, Vibert has never been one to take himself too seriously, but his music continues to delight.

'Toomorrow' is a case in point. Built around a dizzying array of vocal samples – by turn funny, vacuous, pointed and occasionally threatening – the album spins out in a hundred and one directions whilst always being recognisably a Wagon Christ production. 'Ain’t He Heavy, He’s My Brother', sounds like an instrumental outtake from a lost album by A Tribe Called Quest on ecstasy. 'Manalyze This!' combines pounding bass with the campest keyboard line heard outside of a tent. 'My Lonely Scene' soundtracks a singles-club disco for monsters, while' Respectrum' is cop show music for Emo Phillips. 'Rennie Codgers' emulates Blackpool-beat at its most advanced while 'Wake Up' is reminscient of being chased through a particularly disturbing sex dream by bees. 'Lazer Dick' brings pure phazer-phunk, 'Harmoney' is an advertisement for non-ironic mullets and 'Mr Mukatsu' finishes the record with a limping, limpid beauty.

With recent releases on both Planet Mu and Rephlex, Luke Vibert remains one of the key players in the scene that developed out of Cornwall and the West Country in the mid-nineties. 'Toomorrow' is a funny, clever, swinging, moving reminder of why.

Wagon Christ - 'Toomorrow' Album Minimix

Doc Martin is a bona fide legend of the house music scene, and his involvement with the music can be traced back to the mid-80s.  Right there on the cusp of the house sound, Doc has become synonymous with the West Coast of America’s dance scene.   From spinning records in San Francisco, various residencies in New York, tours with the likes of Grace Jones, The Prodigy, Moby and Dee-Lite, and welcomed with open arms across Europe at clubs like Back To Basics, Cream and Ministry Of Sound, Doc Martin has tirelessly supported the music over the year with a great passion.

As a producer, Doc has served up A list productions on labels like Moonshine Music, Siesta, Wax Records and Sublevel, as well as DJ mix compilations for Fabric, DM and Nitegrooves, quite simply Doc Martin is the DJs DJ, and it’s a huge pleasure to have him on this weeks Source to Cycle.

Solid Steel (26th December) The votes have been counted and the listeners choice of Solid Steel 'Mix of the Year 2014' goes to Clap! Clap!, with runners up Maribou State, Catching Flies and Matt Berry. Congratulations to Aanand Davé, who was the lucky winner of the Ninja Tune prize and here once again are the most popular mixes.

Catching Flies opens the second half. The London producer already has a few acclaimed EP's and remixes under his belt and supported Bonobo on his European tour this year. His mix opens with Chick Corea, Kazi on Stones Throw, Jon Hopkins and the Moods remix of his track 'Sunrays' from The Stars EP. Then it's into Letherette, Dirg Gerner, Caribou and his beautiful collaboration with Ifan Daffyd.
We close with Matt Berry and his mix from July. Well known for his appearances in The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh and more recently his award winning Toast of London. He's also a musician in his own right with several albums under his belt, the latest being 'Music For Insomniacs' where he channels the synthesised soundscapes of Vangelis and Mike Oldfield. There's no track list, but he plugs into musicals like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Jesus Christ Superstar, soundtrack work by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth and pop from Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Kate Bush.

We start with Clap! Clap! from March and this mix showcases his musical style of researching and sampling tribes, bands and singers originating from the African continent with unreleased tracks, collaborations and remixes. Plus there's music from Italian film score legend Piero Umiliani, H-Sik, Debruit, DJ Earl and new Ninja Tune signing, Romare.
Maribou State also appeared in March with a beautiful mix and although no tracklist at the time, listeners soon worked out that it featured Andrew Ashong, Bibio, Jungle, Four Tet remix of Grimes and Maribou State confirmed that it included one of their unreleased tracks.

We move into Hour 2 and for our 25th Anniversary we encouraged guests to deliver something different. This week Luke Vibert (who has appeared many times on the show) does exactly that with a high octane opening section showcasing the edit kings from the late eighties. Often found on the b-side of club records, editors such as Omar Santana, Carlos Berrios,  Chep Nunez and the Latin Rascals transformed tracks with quick fire cuts for artists like Rochelle, Corina, Bad Boy Orchestra, Stone and Sweet Sensation who are all featured and we get a Luke Vibert treatment on top. Brand New Funk and Ethel Beatty offer a respite from all this, as well as a sublime gospel track from Pastor TL Barrett, before closing with Omar Souleyman, Tipper and Tomita.

In our 25th Anniversary slot, we welcome back Fink, who has appeared many times on Solid Steel dating back to 1999. We asked for something a little different and taking a brief break from the studio in LA where he's demoing up the new Fink album, he delivers us 30 minutes of 'avant-bard-core for the ear waves'. It's music from The Horrors, Bjork, Fever Ray and House of Black Lanterns, with a couple of remixes courtesy of 16 Bit and Scuba. Finally, it's a mix from Natural Self to close the show.
