"I'm known for being a d&b DJ who leans towards the eccentric side, so here's a mix that represents the weird and wonderful music that keeps me from falling asleep whilst driving home from a night club. Most of these records were blind purchases - or should that be deaf purchases - I bought the records on the strength of the artwork alone, usually featuring improbably large breasted and frankly weird looking women silhouetted against a backdrop of Hawaii. This is music to perhaps help you dream of summer, or maybe to prepare you for your own demise. That not withstanding remember this: I know what it is to be young, but you, you don't know what it is to be old."

Robin Hexstatic in Hour 2 this week with a bass heavy selection and celebrating the release of 2 tracks from his new RobHex project. Starting with some lovely remixes from the likes of Psychemagik and Cause and Effect,..there’s also the pounding Robert Babicz remix of Hardfloor’s classic acid anthem. The first of two RobHex tracks and into a fresh new track from the ever brilliant DJ Zinc. Phuture and Bart B More bring the heavy acid and into a bouncing remix of Au Seve from The Stantons and classic cut up vocals from Taches. A bassline remix of DJ Kentaro leads to the classically relentless La Mouche from Cassius,..and on into another new RobHex track. We finish with a double header of reggae infused breakbeat heavies from 601 ft Ragga Twins and Congo Natty.

Solid Steel (3rd October) It's a pleasure to welcome Rob da Bank to Solid Steel. He was at Radio 1 for over a decade before moving to 6 Music, the founder of Bestival and Sunday Best Recordings and played at the Solid Steel club night in 2004. This is what he said about his mix;
‘I get pretty bored DJing if i can only play one style, which you can definitely tell in this mix. It's more of a collage of old and new tracks I might play as a warm up set than a seamless mix. i actually much prefer being the warm up dj and being able to play loads of styles. The pressure's off and you can go off kilter. The trip takes in vintage electronica from the likes of Mixmaster Morris, Aphex and Squarepusher, some old trip hoppy bits, brand spanking new electronic fire from Redinho, Bonobo and Clark and a few classics from the likes of DJ Mink and LFO - its a mix for a boring car journey or a night drinking whisky round a campfire…it starts off slow and noodly and somehow ends up pounding and fist pumping…like all the best parties.’

In hour 2 it's the return of Pepe Deluxe with a mix celebrating the release of his highly anticipated 'Queen of the wave' album, out on the 30th January. It's a concept album,with the usual Pepe elements of late 60's vinyl influenced sound, plus weird instruments and equipment, including The Great Stalacpipe Organ (the largest instrument in the world). Solid Steel in association with Serato (21st December) The votes are in and it's been a tight contest, but the Solid Steel Mix of the Year 2012 as voted by the listeners, goes to Banks and his mix from October. We take another listen to part of his mix and first up it's his transformation of The Keeper by Bonobo and then onto Deco Child, the excellent Anti-Pop Consortium remixed by Four Tet, before dropping his second remix which is a sublime rework of 'Lost where I belong' by Andreya Triana. The mix continues to flow with Modeselektor, Orbital from '94, Lusine and the collaboration between Four Tet, Burial and Thom Yorke. 
DJ Irk sets us up for Xmas with a few seasonal snippets, alongside music from Kraddy, Q-Tip, Method Man and Koan Sound, plus classics from Al Green and the Beastie Boys.
