This mix has to be the best mix that I've heard, since I started listening to Solid Steel.

I have listened to this mix over 100 times in the last 12 years. AMAZING

I listen to the SS mixes religiously and this is the one I keep coming back to.  Brilliant selection of tunes, beautifully crafted.

So many years later, this is still such a good mix.

Strictly Kev revisits hip hop from 1989 having been asked to play at  Classic Material, a night run by Chris Read (whose mix we recently featured). Each month the night celebrates a year from Hip Hop’s past. It was the turn of 1989 which was a special year, rich in musical delights with the beginnings of gangster rap taking over Hip Hop and the emergence of De La Soul’s Daisy Age with their incredible ‘3 Feet High & Rising’ album. This week Redrum starts the show with his Boomtape mix. The Barcelona based French DJ kicks off with funky breaks courtesy of Ali B and gets progressively tougher with Vent and Vibesquad. We continue with music from Wiley, Redlight and Poirier, plus the bass heavy Doorly remix of the Scruff classic 'Get a move on'. Solid Steel (27th December) 2013 marked the 25th Anniversary of Solid Steel when Matt Black and Jon More from Coldcut started broadcasting together on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. It's been a year long celebration and we'd like to thank all the guests who have contributed incredible mixes throughout the year. To see off the year in style, we asked our listeners to vote for their favourite guest mix from the last 25 years and also their favourite mixes from our resident DJ's, with huge prizes up for grabs.

The guest mix you chose as your favourite from the last 25 years was Bonobo with his 'Directors Cut mix' of his Solid Steel Mix CD release "It came from the Sea", which was first broadcast on the 9th December 2005. It's his 2 hour version of the mix featuring tracks that didn't make the final cut including his own edit of Gang of Four and the brilliant Four Tet edit of Black Unity by Pharoah Saunders.

Up next it's your favourite mix from DK which was his 'Cymatic Frequencies' mix from the 21st January 2011. This was also his first solo AV mix and was packed full of musical highlights from 2010 and can be viewed here http://vimeo.com/19005861 Joy Orbison, Ramadanman and Maddslinky remixed by Toddla T all feature, alongside a Ninja Trio and a Big Dada double, plus James Blake, Caribou and Bassnectar.

Using Serato's Video-SL plug-in for Scratch Live, they mix, scratch and blend the sound AND vision for each track they play. Months were spent creating videos for each piece of music, either using the original source material or, in most cases sampling footage to create a new video entirely. Described as 'Video Turntablism', it has become a way for Food & DK to visualize their already legendary DJ sets. 
As usual, it's the diverse mix of music that they love and are known for, taking in current faves from Foreign Beggars & Noisia, Joy Orbison and Dorian Concept, but also plenty of classics that have kept dancefloors rocking from TTC, Pendulum, Luke Vibert, Think Tank and Z-Trip. Splore Sunday Spaced out closing session

Hexstatic in the mix this week with an eclectic mix of old and new tunes inspired by cycling around ye olde London. A classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. Big fav from last year,.. SBTRKT's remix of Modeselektors 'Art&amp;Cash' manages to be both banging and heartfelt at the same time and leads perfectly into spanking fresh new matierial from Robin Hexstatic's new 36 Kings project. Next up The surprisingly classic Flying Into Tokyo from Magnetic Man that mixes suprememly well with Andreya Triana. A &nbsp;nice syncopated tempo change from Al Usher and a big big old fav from techno legend Dave Angel and then into some nice dancefloor action from Zero 7, until we end on a more chilled vibe with lovely electronica from Koreless and Commix. Enjoy.
