2013 marked the 25th Anniversary of Solid Steel when Matt Black and Jon More from Coldcut started broadcasting together on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. It's been a year long celebration and we'd like to thank all the guests who have contributed incredible mixes throughout the year. To see off the year, we asked our listeners to vote for their favourite guest mix from the last 25 years and also their favourite mixes from our resident DJ's.

Your favourite Coldcut mix was the 'Journeys by DJ Special' from 20th May 2002. The original '70 minutes of Madness' was released in 1995 and often considered "the best DJ mix album of all time" and this mix coincided with it's reissue in 2002. It features extra tracks that didn't appear on the original CD including the Coldcut rework of 'People hold on'

Unsurprisingly, the most popular mix for DJ Cheeba, DJ Moneyshot and DJ Food was their epic version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album from 31st August 2012 made entirely from the original sample sources titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ . Each of them took a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more.

Finally it was the Hexstatic mix from 28th January 2011 which was your favourite, with the classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. SBTRKT's remix of Modeselektors 'Art&Cash' leads perfectly into material from Robin Hexstatic's project, plus music from  Magnetic Man, Andreya Triana and Dave Angel.

Congratulations to Daniel Westlake from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, who was the winner picked at random in the competition and will receive prizes from Novation, AIAIA, Serato and Solid Steel.

The majority of the set focuses on the early stages of the genre, with Shadow selecting the best in 80's hip hop and early electro - where tracks were made the good old fashioned way; a tight loop of beats, sampled breaks, primitive scratching and an MC. Massive Attack - On Galaxy Radio - 1994 (Miranda Rae Show)

Solid Steel (14th November)  Catching Flies opens the show this week with a lush mix to ease you into the weekend. The London producer already has a few acclaimed EP's and remixes under his belt and supported Bonobo on his European tour this year. His mix opens with Chick Corea, Kazi on Stones Throw, Jon Hopkins and the Moods remix of his track 'Sunrays' from The Stars EP. Then it's into Letherette, Dirg Gerner, Caribou and his beautiful collaboration with Ifan Daffyd, before closing with recent guests Werkha and Maribou State.
