2 sold out shows in Vancouver for Bonobo. So goooooood

Solid Steel (17th January) DK steps up with his first mix of the year and it's a focus on new releases from the Ninja Tune family of labels including an exclusive from the forthcoming Illum Sphere album. First up it's the bonus track from the excellent Run the Jewels album featuring Q-Bert, followed by the Falty DL single 'Danger', Jessica Lauren from 2000 and Prime/Decent by Lee Bannon. Then it's African flavours both new and old, the recent Lone giveaway and the first play for 'Near the End' from the superb Illum Sphere album 'Ghosts of Then and Now', out on 10th Feb. Machinedrum gets the VIP treatment from Om Unit, followed by Actress, a Mr Scruff edit of Pusha T and more new music from Young Fathers on Big Dada and NameBrandSound on Technicolour. Finally it's a great Cid Rim remix for Andreya Triana, second spin for the Maya Jane Coles remix for Bonobo and a big favourite from last year by North Lakes on Phonica.

Solid Steel (28th March) In the latest instalment, DK has put together a mix unveiling some of the latest gems from the Ninja Tune family of labels. This includes an EXCLUSIVE play of Machinedrum’s stunning remix of 'Runnin’ by Kelis -  available on the special, indies-only, limited edition version of her album 'Food', alongside the other remixes in this show from Breach and Will Saul. 
Then it's the turn of Machinedrum to be remixed by Seafloor, two from NameBrandSound, the VIP mix of 'Hardcourage' from Falty DL, a track from the forthcoming Mr Scruff album 'Friendly Bacteria', Teebs, classic Roots Manuva and two more for Record Store Day, from Illum Sphere and a Psych classic from The Animated Egg, released alongside If Music.

This week DK returns with a trawl through the digital inbox and catches up on some recent and upcoming releases. We kick off once again with the excellent Warrior One remix of 'Eyesdown' by Bonobo and continue in a leftfield uptempo groove with Martyn, Joy Orbison and Octa Push, before dropping the huge bomb that is the Nero mix of 'Sincere'. More bass heavy beats follow before dropping down with new material from the great Gil Scott-Heron, Jay Electronica and the original from Billy Stewart. It's a west London shuffle with 2000 black on the remix for Ty and Seiji mixing it with Jern Eye. A nod to Melvin Bliss (RIP) and his well sampled track 'Synthetic substitution', before we up the pace with Flore and Total Science & S.P.Y. Chali 2na hits the button marked dubstep, plus more wobbles from Cakeboy and Toddla T, remixed by Benga. Solid Steel Radio Show 30/7/2010 Part 1 + 2 - DK

Solid Steel (22nd February) DK starts with a few current gems leading with the huge Romare track 'Your love', new music from Ty and the stunning single from James Blake, plus Machinedrum remixing Guilty Simpson and a classic Donald Byrd production for The Blackbyrds.
Then we welcome Joe Acheson (aka Hidden Orchestra) with his latest mix celebrating the release of the single 'Fourth Wall' from the  'Archipelago' album on Tru Thoughts. Like previous mixes it features all the variety of music that Joe has been listening to in the last year or so, much of which he has added to, mashed up or remixed, with lots of spoken word and field recordings. One of the themes is sleep, or the lack of it - and there's a strong theme of imagined live collaborations - Kelpe with Thom Yorke, Ivor Cutler and Johnny Cash trading verses over Jan Johansson's piano with added beats, Four Tet and Neil Cowley, Steve Reich with vocals from John Lennon and Finsta Bundy…

DJ Food looks back once again for our 25th Anniversary slot taking 'Free Comic Book Day' (this Saturday, May 4th) as his theme to present tracks that feature references to comic book characters. The Marvel and DC worlds of Superman, Batman and Spiderman feature heavily with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Cliff Richard revealing their passion for Caped Crusaders and Wall Crawlers. But the more obscure feature too with three nods to Judge Dredd, two for Flash Gordon and even Elton John singing the praises of Dan Dare. DJ Food will have a piece of artwork in a new exhibition called Image Duplicator - looking at the original comic artists that Lichtenstein copied for his most famous work - opening on May 16th at Orbital Comics in London.
