DK starts the second hour in a slightly darker mood with music from London Grammar remixed by Fracture, House of Black Lanterns, forthcoming single from Machinedrum and Om Unit on remix duties for Memory9. Then it's Earl Sweatshirt utilising David Axelrod, Dean Blunt over Pentangle and into the original track followed by Blues Magoo to close.

Following on from last week's Bollywood mix and previous travels to Africa and Soviet Steel, it's the turn of Cuba where Thur Deephrey picked up a stack of vinyl which is presented in this mix. It touches on Cuban jazz, psychedelic, folk and funk-rock peppered with beats and episodes from long lost Cuban cinematography. The track list however is extensively censored by Cuban authorities, sort of, leaving some tracks still to be unearthed.

@nightmares-on-wax “I made this mix after my interview and conversation with Ralph Moore for Mixmag, and it's inspired by lots of the music and references we were discussing. I wanted to do a mix for Mixmag you wouldn’t usually get going through soul, funk, reggae, disco, R&B and house. All the songs are tunes I’ve been digging this past year during the pandemic. I had a lot of fun digging records for this mix and recorded it live in my studio The Other Ship in Ibiza.”

We are excited to present release number 5 from Tropical Oasis Retreat Maui - Sunshine Jones'  100% Live set on Saturday night!

Sunshine's inspirational messages and brilliant music were the perfect way to close out our first day and night of amplified music.

In addition to this live set Sunshine also played a dj set, hosted a small music seminar - mahalo for being such an integral part of ur event!  

Sunshine Jones is often called a "house legend" from San Francisco. A founding member of Dubtribe Sound System. He also makes electronic music by himself. He travels the world performing a live/DJ set - live mixing, singing, re editing on the fly, and championing the idea that literally anything you can syncopate is house music. He re edits for leisure, experiments with electronics for adventure, is often in an airplane, and is very kind to children.

Sunshine Jones believes in love. That said, he understands that sometimes love is difficult to imagine.

Solid Steel returns with brand new and exclusive mixes from Four Tet and Trevor Jackson.

For this special show we have Kieran Hebden - AKA Four Tet - partnered with Trevor Jackson - founder of Output Recordings, the independent record label he ran between 1996 and 2006. 

Both artists have a long history with the show (this is Hebden’s 7th appearance and Jackson's 3rd), as well as with each other. Hebden’s early releases as part of Fridge and his first solo release - the 1997 "Double Density" single under the artist name 4T Recordings - were released on Output. The label was also home to the first releases under his Four Tet Alias, including 1998 singles "Thirtysixtwentyfive" and "Misnomer", and 1999's “Glasshead"/"Calamine" single and first full-length album “Dialogue”. Jackson also released music on the label as Skull and Open Music and elsewhere including his work as Playgroup.

Speaking about the mix and his history with Jackson, Hebden told us: “This is a mix of music from all over the place that I’ve been enjoying and getting inspired by in recent times.  A snapshot of my personal listening world. Some of the way I search for music and the way I DJ was learnt from Trevor Jackson so his influence is always in what I do in some way.  I met him when I was a teenager and he introduced me to loads of records with all different styles and origins and also showed me ways to bring these sounds into the future through sampling and DJing. This open minded approach to listening and sound I think is one of the great strengths particularly of producers who came from hip hop in the 80’s and 90’s because there was such a strong incentive to explore all types of music in the search for samples. The passion and enthusiasm for listening and discovering music that comes from this is something I have huge respect for"
