Heading into Autumn, we bring you release No.36 in our catalogue, and it is brought to you by none other than London's own Lauren Steel. Hailing from the capital, she brings you three peak-time club cuts that will rock the dancefloor with pure drive and energy.

And for the remix, we kindly present Libero Records' very own Mike Morrisey & Dan Costello. The boys join forces to provide their version of the A1 track 'Rock Steady' that really shows versatility and a bassline that will rock any sound system. 

It's an absolute pleasure to have Lauren, Mike & Dan feature on the label.

Solid Steel (8th September) In Hour 1 this week we welcome Project Pablo. The Canadian producer has built an impressive discography in recent years with a consistent stream of quality releases via labels such as Clone’s Royal Oak imprint, Spring Theory, and Lone’s Magicwire. His mix for Solid Steel features tracks from DJ Tonka, Mysterious People, Revlux and Beatrice Dillon & Call Super on Hessle Audio. He told us;
"Recorded with an XDJ 700 on the left and a SL-1200 MK2 on the right, through a DJM-400. I’ve been spending a lot of time at home lately, so I wanted to reflect that through tunes I’ve been listening to and making on the daily. "

Solid Steel Radio Show 8/9/2017 Hour 1 - Project Pablo

For techno in Amsterdam, few do it better than Sandrien. The Dutch native has been collecting records in her hometown for the best part of two decades, and became a staple of the city’s underground scene through MAD2 – the club night she ran with friend Carlos Valdes. Building on the success of MAD2 she went onto establish Imprint – the night she’s best known for – which she ran at the much-loved Trouw club up until its closure at the beginning of 2015. In the years since she’s been playing out increasingly beyond the Dutch capital, with 2017 seeing her tour Asia and stop off in Berlin for regular appearances. This rise in popularity is a real testament to her prowess as a selector.

On 14th October she makes her Farringdon debut, so we didn’t hesitate in inviting her to record a mix for us to introduce herself. For her mix, she dropped a carefully-curated selection of ambient, IDM, broken beats and techno, before discussing her record digging habits and the scene in her hometown.

Solid Steel (13th October) In Hour 1 we welcome Norwegian producer Henning Severud, known as Telephones, who has released on Full Pupp, Sex Tags UFO, Love on the Rocks and Running Back, which saw his first solo album 'Vibe Telemetry' come out in 2016. There's plenty of projects in the pipeline and remixes due for Chmmr, Seb Wildblood and Phil Stroud, and you can catch him playing in Europe in November, before heading onto Asia and a tour of Australia. He told us;
"I`ve listened to Solid Steel-shows since the early 2000s,  so it`s an honor for me to do this mix. In that respect I`ve done things fairly eclectic, though in check with what I`m into on a contemporary level. So, it`s kind of a journey through some of the things I like. Old favourites and new things I've been playing a lot lately, recorded on two Technics 1200s, a Pioneer DJM300 mixer and a burrowed CDJ. The mix was recorded live in three parts as I had some problems finding the time. In the end I've done some effect-overdubs and edited down a few of the tracks in Ableton. "

Solid Steel (10th November) In Hour 1 we welcome Russian producer Kedr Livanskiy who released her album 'Ariadna' in September. The Moscow based artist was born into a shifting and critical time for Russia and her inspiration for this record comes from the Izhevsk (sometimes referred to as "the capital of Russian electronic music") sound of the 80s, including groups like Stuk Bambuka V XI Chasov (Bamboo Crash at 11AM) and Samtsy Dronta. The movement in Russian experimental music is especially inspiring, with acts likes Valery Chkalov, Sergey Kuryokhin and Pop Mechanica; in general, the late-Soviet period was very inspiring with all its figures in music, cinema, their energy and their approach towards life and art. Music featured includes David Cunningham, Dopplereffekt, Simon Fisher Turner, Jonny Oso and Glue by Bicep, and simply told us "This mix is designed to prepare you for winter”

For the first 2018 issue of our mix series, we invited Amsterdam based Nachtbraker (aka ‘night hawk’ in Dutch!) for a sample of his tunes. Dig in & check out what he’s been up to recently…

Been touring a lot in Europe, and recently had my third Asia tour, which was amazing! Also still really happy with the EP I released in september last year. My collaboration with San Proper on one of the tunes is doing really well, and its nice to see people picking up on that.

This mix was recorded at Void Club in Bordeaux, France, 1st of December 2017. It was at a party from Electrocorp who invited me a while ago to play for them. They’re good friends, and the vibe that night was wicked. I used two CDJ2000’s, 2 Technics SL 1210’s and an Allen & Heath Xone:92 mixer. The mix was recorded on DAT tape. I picked the middle 1,5 hour of a total 2.5 hour set.

Its a live recording of my gig in Bordeaux. I was playing till close and the vibe was on fire from beginning till end. I like this recording a lot because I got to play a variety of tunes, and the people really followed my lead in there. Going from some minimal house to electro breakbeats, deep flowing house to an old Joris Voorn tune and somewhat more raw tunes.

Up next…

I’ve been working hard on finishing a new EP which is due early march on my own label Quartet Series. Finished a couple of forthcoming remixes on Heist, Dirt Crew and for a Dutch brass band. A tune on a vinly only sampler for finish label Common Labour is also coming in February.

Got some nice gigs coming up, playing DGTL opening night alongside my all time heroes Floating Points and Theo Parrish for instance. Also finally get to play with Jeremy Underground at Claire Amsterdam. Planning a new Latin America tour soon as well.

With releases on the likes of Distant Hawaii, Moods & Grooves and Rhythm Section, DJ and producer Hidden Spheres has carved out a distinctive sound: combining soulful house, smooth melodies and a warm, jazzy-influence.

Also hosting a monthly show on NTS titled ‘Fruit Merchant’, which has most recently evolved into a new record label and musical outlet, the Manchester-based artist this week turns in the latest contribution to our mix series.

It’s a real pick-me-up mix, both for the listener and for DJ himself - Hidden Spheres having recorded the mix “therapeutically” during a bedridden period. Full of uplifting disco, warm retro throwbacks and invigorating funky jams - we’d certainly prescribe it as the perfect listening remedy.
