Ninja Tune is an English independent record label based in London. It has a satellite office in Los Angeles, California, U.S. covering the whole of North America. It was founded by Matt Black and Jonathan More, better known as Coldcut and managed by Peter Quicke and others. Music Week has written that Ninja Tune is one of the most credible independent labels in the UK.

Inspired by a visit to Japan, Black & More primarily created Ninja Tune in 1990 as a means to escape the creative control of major labels, and to act as a vehicle to release music of a more underground nature, free from the restraints that were put on them via their brief stints with Arista and Big Life. The label has been called "visionary" and "reliably excellent". It has signed a diverse range of uncompromising artists, encourages interactive technology, embraces the audio-visual world, has created its own publishing company, Just Isn’t Music, and finds innovative uses of software.

The label's first releases —the first five volumes of DJ Food's Jazz Brakes— were produced by Coldcut in the early 1990s, and celebrated by the music press and beat aficionados.They were composed of instrumental sample-based cuts that led the duo to help pioneer new instrumental hip hop beats genres (alongside the Mo'Wax label and Ninja Tune artists such as Funki Porcini, The Herbaliser and DJ Vadim) and, to this day, are recognized as being indispensable tools for DJs.

The label has since released music of myriad artists (including The Cinematic Orchestra, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, Kelis, Mr Scruff, Jaga Jazzist, Fink, Kid Koala, The Bug, Machinedrum, Lee Bannon, Dorian Concept), and distributes other record labels - including Big Dada, Brainfeeder (Flying Lotus' label),[14][citation not found] Werkdiscs (Actress' label) and Girls Music (Toddla T's label).

  Speech Debelle returns with one of the standout cuts from her hugely acclaimed debut album, “Speech Therapy”. Featuring a chorus from another debut artist making waves this year, Micachu, “Better Days” is a harder hitting, more beat-led piece of hip hop than some of her earlier releases, but loses none of their emotional charge. 
  
  Produced by Plutonic Lab during Speech’s stay in Australia, Ms Debelle returned to Blighty without a chorus in place. After various ideas for singers were mooted she settled on Micachu, who could add a distinctive and distinctly British soul to proceedings. The result is blazing – swinging, snapping drums contrasted with deep double bass and acoustic guitar, Speech’s clever, incisive, real lyrics and the unexpected twists of Micachu’s melancholy chorus. As NME has already put it, it’s “a slow-burning slice of pop that’s both unsettlingly gloomy and joyously uplifitng.” 
  
  The single also features bonus track, “Where Do We Go?” – a jazzy little number over which Speech ranges lyrically from the personal to the global. 
  
  With “Speech Therapy” already being tipped as one of the albums of the year, “Better Days” is a reminder just why so many people are getting so excited about this young South Londoner….
