This ladies and gentlemen is Tumi and the Volume, arguably South Africa’s most electric performers. 

The group has managed to create a distinct musical accent for itself that includes blends of samba, swing, hip hop, reggae and poetry that speaks to the unique reality of the South African experience and still relates to the world in that universal way that only beauty can. Think The Roots meets Common by way of South Africa.

The band has wowed audiences all over the country, impressed fellow musicians Blackalicious (U.S.A), Positive Black Souls (Senegal) and Relax (the Netherlands) and has been frequent invitees to world-class music festivals such as the Quart Festival in Norway, North Sea Jazz in Cape Town, Montreal Jazz. They have also played throughout Europe.

Speech Debelle returns with one of the standout cuts from her hugely acclaimed debut album, “Speech Therapy”. Featuring a chorus from another debut artist making waves this year, Micachu, “Better Days” is a harder hitting, more beat-led piece of hip hop than some of her earlier releases, but loses none of their emotional charge. 

Produced by Plutonic Lab during Speech’s stay in Australia, Ms Debelle returned to Blighty without a chorus in place. After various ideas for singers were mooted she settled on Micachu, who could add a distinctive and distinctly British soul to proceedings. The result is blazing – swinging, snapping drums contrasted with deep double bass and acoustic guitar, Speech’s clever, incisive, real lyrics and the unexpected twists of Micachu’s melancholy chorus. As NME has already put it, it’s “a slow-burning slice of pop that’s both unsettlingly gloomy and joyously uplifitng.” 

The single also features bonus track, “Where Do We Go?” – a jazzy little number over which Speech ranges lyrically from the personal to the global. 

With “Speech Therapy” already being tipped as one of the albums of the year, “Better Days” is a reminder just why so many people are getting so excited about this young South Londoner….

In demand due to the prestige of his work as one half of pioneering electronic music duo Thievery Corporation, recording artist, producer, and DJ Rob Garza is releasing his labor of love- a compilation of remixes from across the musical landscape. What began as an exercise in creative output and new musical directions has become a collection of over a dozen epitomic compositions presented in a new light on Garza’s Remixes.

On this new solo release, Garza delivers infectious remixes of tracks by deep-house DJ Miguel Migs, Afro-Peruvian/electronica act Novalima, Latin-influenced neo-soul act AM & Shawn Lee, dancehall veteran Sleepy Wonder, ambient musician Tycho, and electro-chanteuse Shana Halligan. Also featured are Garza’s remixes of Gogol Bordello’s “Through the Roof and Underground” and Federico Aubele’s “No One”—as well as a reworking of Thievery Corporation’s fiery, Afrobeat-infused “Vampires” with San Francisco-based collective Afrolicious.

Production duo ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS have announced the release of their latest single, ‘Tebamanyi feat. MoRoots’ on the 6th of November. The single is taken from their groundbreaking Afro-European album ZIK ZAK, which will be released on the 22nd of January 2021 via Switchstance Recordings and features a variety of rising African musicians. The album was preceded by the noteworthy Kampala Fire EP and the single Ziinga Zanram. 

Ugandan born and London based MoRoots is a fast-rising singer, songwriter, composer, saxophonist, classical pianist who is currently making waves across both continents. The songstress has been supported by several publications including Bella Naija, New Vision, The New Times, Chimp Reports, The Observer and Sofar Sounds.

ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS find inspiration in a variety of styles, including the likes of Madlib, Apollo Brown, Clutchy Hopkins, RJD2, King Tubby, Lee Perry, Dubmatix, Stone Love, J Dilla, Augustus Pablo, Midnite, DJ Premiere, Pete Rock and 9th Wonder. However, ‘Tebamanyi feat. MoRoots’ sits closer to the likes of the production stylings of Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister, the haunting string work of Portishead and Quakers (Katalyst) the while the vocals call to mind the powerful likes of Amy Winehouse and Mary J. Blige. 

Radiating with strong feminism and bold vocals, ‘Tebamanyi feat. MoRoots’ is made with deep grooves that keep the listener entranced. An “in-your-face, I-don’t-care”  attitude opens the single. However, instead of allowing this rhythm to dominate the single, there is a deep sense of refinement and precision within the vocals that is only further accentuated by the production stylings of ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS.
