The Monster by The Monster (JumoDaddy Remix) - EDM.com Premiere

For our next edition of the Unchained Mix Series, we have Washington DC-bred and France-based Kat Dudinsky aka Nvrsoft, back with us after three years with a pulsating hour-long mix that features some of her upcoming music along with a bunch of tunes from our latest 'Year Of The Rabbit' LP.

"This mix was really fun- I wanted to honor Unchained’s diversity by going a bit out of my usual DnB box, myself. So about 15 minutes of the mix is multigenre. I tried to highlight some of my favorite tunes from Unchained, my own forthcoming/ tunes and dubs, and other tunes I’m really feeling at the moment.

When was the last time you listened to an actual ‘mixtape’? You probably think of one of the many mixes inhabiting our digital social spheres, which you might give a quick click or a fast listen. Dutch Drum and Bass connoisseurs Lenzman & Dan Stezo go back in time with the launch of their ‘Soul Tape’, an actual 60 minute cassette tape meant for the discerning Drum and Bass lover.

The Soul Tape is a limited give-away. The hand-crafted package comes in a hard-cover box, with additional T-shirt and a variety of stickers - all with custom artwork by Team Blazin'. Besides that The Soul Tape is a ‘cool’ and fresh (but hyper-traditional) take on the mix-format, it stems from Lenzman and Dan Stezo's 90s ritual of making Hiphop tapes for each other in school.

The Soul Tape exhibits tracks from the world’s finest Drum and Bass artists, blended by Lenzman with Dan Stezo’s narrative slang and distinct voice-over. As a combination they have worked together since 2003, and recently increased their collaborative spirit both on stage and on record. 2014 saw their first release ‘Move & Focus’ together as a combination on the esteemed Metalheadz imprint as part of Lenzman's debut album 'Looking At The Stars.

Lenzman’s tremendous success in his genre and his tour the force around the world doesn't keep him from maintaining a close circle. Long time confidant Team Blazin' adds the artwork in the form of handwritten calligraphy which articulates the Hiphop aesthetics, the three artists’ connecting factor and their shared stylistic background.

The Soul Tape is not for sale, as it is an initiative out of love for the craft, the music and their heritage. The 50 limited edition tapes will be given away to fans over a period of time. As it's holiday season, starting with 10 units via a Facebook “Share to Win” competition. Head over to the Metalheadz Facebook page and you might win a copy of The Soul Tape.

“When we were kids growing up it was all about tapes. It was a time where music was hard to come by and albums were played from start to finish, over and over... It was also a time where we made mixtapes for each other, recorded off CD, radio, whatever. Back then it was Hiphop. We are taking that aesthetics and giving you a piece of nostalgia which celebrates the love for our craft. We've made you a mixtape. This time it's not Hiphop but Drum and Bass music. This a hard-crafted package: 50 slices of nostalgia. Inside you will find a 60 minute tape, mixed and hosted by Lenzman and Dan Stezo. Metalheadz Podcast 50 - Need For Mirrors

If there was one thing we'd level at the drum & bass producer Xtrah, its that he fully comprehends the measure of precision and grit necessary to succeed in his chosen field. As this short mixtape, which was made ahead of his appearance in the Metalheadz Platinum hosted Room Three next week (Friday 27th February) shows, he's really struck a balance between the intricacies of those tunes hell bent on oodles of ghost snares and subtlety and the pomp and drive of the more tear out ready, mid range rollers. Honestly he's long been a guy whose tunes have sent computers in our Farringdon HQ into fits of frenzied Skype IMs, but there's something so short and sweet and yet so measured and exciting about the types of tunes he's included in this mix that makes us ache for the club doors to be open.

We wanted to share it with you this Friday lunchtime, in the hope that it'll inspire the same sort of thing in you this weekend.

Survival & Silent Witness - Exclusive Drum&BassArena Mix

An artist renowned for his twisted take on the drum & bass spectrum, Phace is a producer whose ethos behind his progressive and technical sound is surprisingly simple. Releasing a multitude of club-ready but intricate and adept d&b, including his third album, Shape The Random, not to mention his collaborative material with good pal and fellow German music maestro Misanthrop via their Neosignal label, you might think there'd be something rather complex responsible for those deep, rolling basslines. But when chatting to the man himself last week it became clear that his meticulous music-making is simply done to make “both himself and others happy”. 

Set to join Black Sun Empire’s BLACKOUT clan in Room Two on Friday 24th July, we caught up with Phace on his theoretical whereabouts since the release of his aforementioned album earlier this year. He also recorded us a 30 minute blast of his blend of high octane cuts to kick off the BLACKOUT branded takeover of our blog space (which'll be running every week in the run up to the show).

Carrying a clear vision, an ensemble of impressive experiences and a whole tonne of exuberance, the boys are ready to set the future in motion. We caught up with them this week as they shared the story behind their next step and an exclusive hour-long recording showcasing the label’s tastes.

The mix itself is pretty basic and is meant to showcase the edits (AKA I swear im not this bad of a dj).
