Bad Afro Records is an independent record label based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We love psychedelic rock and vinyl and currently we are working with bands like Baby Woodrose, Spids Nøgenhat, The Love Coffin, Telstar Sound Drone, Narcosatanicos, Bellhound Choir, The Dandelion, The Janitors, The Setting Son and Dragontears. We are looking for good tunes but are not afraid of acid.

The label was founded in 1996 with the purpose of releasing rock’n’roll, punk, surf and garage rock from the Scandinavian countries + Finland. The first half of our existence the label worked with bands such as The Hellacopters, Turbonegro, The Nomads. The Flaming Sideburns, Backyard Babies, Sweatmaster, The Defectors, The Burnouts, Ricochets, Mother Superior, 22 Pistepirkko and Silver as well as many other bands pretty much in the same vein. From 2002 and on the label slowly took a bend towards psychedelic rock.

 After 13 years of “Pushing Scandinavian Rock to the Man!”, as the original slogan goes, the label took another turn and decided that it was too boring only releasing music from Scandinavia. In came the Dolly Rocker Movement from Australia, Cosmonauts from the US and The Mojomatics from Italy.

 Bad Afro loves vinyl and all releases are released in this format. Which does not mean that we oppose digital music or, well….Bad Afro is connected to iTunes, Amazon, E-music, Klicktrack, TDC PLAY, FNAC, WIMP, Spotify, Napster, Rhapsody, Nokia and many, many other digital shops so if you want the music that way it’s fine by us. But vinyl rules!

 About coloured vinyl on Bad Afro: Since 1997 the first print has been on black vinyl, the second print on red vinyl, 3rd print on green vinyl , 4th print is on purple vinyl and recently it has been decided that 5th press is on blue vinyl. Of cource there has been some fuck ups along the way like the Baby Woodrose LP Money For Soul which has been printed 4 times but still is on black vinyl and probably some others too. But general rule is black, red, green, purple and then blue. Future reprints on Bad Afro will have a sticker indicating what colour the vinyl is. Pretty nerdy but handy when the LPs are shrinkwrapped.

4 piece rock n roll brit pop infused band from Nottingham

The raucous pace of their songs created an infectious buzz amongst chest-puffed audiences. Yet they have reformed this youthful exuberance and have fine-tuned a more stripped back pace that smacks of maturity, with a hint of boisterous excitement simmering under the surface. This is characterised by the lead single, Stonefaced, from their debut album due out in the autumn. A rich melody that leads throughout is charged with an explosiveness that skulks in the background. This new direction has earned them considerably more label interest with interviews on Radio 1’s newsbeat.

A fresh rock swagger to their sound characterised the early days and, although these influences remain, they have evolved, producing more lyrically charged Brit-rock melodies with the occasional explosive chorus.
