Collective Conscience , a session series by Nirvana Principle

The series takes its name from a theory by French sociologist Emile Durkheim.

It questions what makes us a moral society? What are the shared ideas, beliefs and attitudes which are the unifying
force within society.

The first episode uses music and poetry to shed light on the plight of refugees and immigrants around the world, from Indonesia to Lagos, the shores of Greece to the Bay of Bengal. We use W.H. Auden’s poem “Refugee Blues” to punctuate the perennial tragedy of leaving one’s homeland only to find a new kind of suffering awaiting them at their alien destination.

COLLECTIVE CONSCIENCE features a thematic soundscape using poetry and music. We create soundscapes for fun listening (check out our video games episode) as well as more socially conscious stories such as the refugee crisis.
