As previous years we're celebrating the Winter Solstice with a mix. And this time it's personal. 

We travel back in time to the year of 2017 and in the aftermath of making a festival in the forests of Sweden. A friend in the crew played these incredibly well-crafted mixtapes on Soundcloud which ended up on ones hard drive to be played over and over in the years to come. Some time later this dj showed up on the Campfire Stories by Silent Season and once again we were in awe of the mood and setting created. When we finally set up our own podcast of Navigare Audio in 2020 and scouted for artists willing to contribute it was inevitable to contact the author of all these amazing musical stories played and little did we know what this would bring. 

So what could be more proper to have Vincent Campfens aka Vinsen to be the first of to re-appear with a chapter on our podcast 28 episodes later. We're grateful for the music and the friendship, connection and love that has come with it.

Navigare 036 - Vinsen

We’re excited to present a new contribution to our podcast series today: Focal. 02 by Unclear.  
Unclear (full name Paolo Bianco) is a an artist from Bari, Italy who’se been passionate about hypnotic techno for many years. Other than dj’ing and producing with his solo project, he’s a part of The Alchemical Theory and the owner of Cultural Corner.
 Unclear’s provided a mix focused on dreamy, soothing hypnotics which occasionally features obscure, dark elements. His refreshing track selection and the consistent storytelling throughout the mix prove his knowledge and experience of hypnotic techno! 

We definitely had a smile on our face as we finished listening to this set. Hope you’ll enjoy it just as much! 🖤

Focal. 02: Unclear

I did a short experimental live set for Üle Heli festival on 20.10.2024. There were series of short concerts in different places in the old town. Guests come in, listen to 10-15 minutes concerts and then go to next destination. Interesting concept. 

The idea behind this set is Arctic Explorations - especially with the Northwest Passage in late 1840s. We explore about fate of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror in the Franklin Expedition. The expedition was ordered to gather magnetic data in the Canadian Arctic and to complete a crossing of the Northwest Passage - but ultimately was unsuccessful.

The first part is the freezing of the ships and ultimate abandoning. The second part is survivor's attempt to cross by feet and ends with a Inuit poem of a native discovering remains of certain crew members.

Stockport-based Preston lad Olly Godfrey steps up for his debut mix for the Avenue Red Podcast with a stunning CD-length session of deep house and grooving 4/4 dancefloor fodder. We attest that this guy knows how to select and glue records together alright, as we had the pleasure of hearing him spin a head-warping set last summer at a 40th birthday party at the lovely venue named 33 Oldham Street in central Manchester (guess the address?!). That was a wildly uptempo & techy affair, but here he demonstrates his maturity as a DJ with a calmer, slower and more down to earth pure house music vibe.

"I haven't really played many events worth mentioning, mainly just smaller parties and gatherings with friends over the years, plus the occasional radio show. I started DJing at 16 and I turn 40 this year. I started out going to events like Gatecrasher and Cream, then slowly going to more house and techno nights such as Tribal Sessions and Bugged Out!. These all had a strong influence on my sound.

This mix for Avenue Red brings together some of my favourite sounds - dreamy, Italo and groovin' house music. It's a reflection of the music I'd want to hear if I'd just walked into a club and onto the dancefloor... enjoy!" Olly Godfrey, January 2025
