To celebrate our first year, we at Sol Sounds Records have put together a compilation of the great work our artists have been up to. "Sol Sounds Records - Once Around the Sun" is a sampling of International Connection, Nitetides, Koimé, and Bashful Creature. Featuring three songs from each of these artists, we hope you will enjoy this cross section of the alternative soul sound we represent. All songs remastered for CD production by Benjamin Hubbard.

When you cry anime tears, time stops in a freeze frame of anguish. Everything falls away but you, your emotions, your tears. The tears sound brightly and fall with added weight in the dark void of time and space. "Anime Tears" depicts a melodramatic moment of longing and love, trapped in passion and draped in desire.

Lovers

We created "A Walk in Color" only with sounds from voice and guitar, without any changes to pitch or rhythm (no auto-tune). Earth, Air, Fire, and Water were recorded in one take each. A similar process permeates the album. Preserving the moment, we expound a sonic kaleidoscope, a fantasy in nature. Our activism of metaphors unifies human and environment. All this handmade music can be, and is performed live.

Here If You Want (Pale Blue)

Altaïr is the name of a blue star, it means « flying eagle » in Arab, the song deals with a lonely space traveller, talking with an imaginary friend named « Tido » he had to leave The Earth finally destroyed by the human kind. 
Altaïr was also the name of the American space mission to go back on the moon in 2020, the mission was abandoned to focus on planet Mars.

Prince Of Winter

As we spin endless circles around the sun, it is the moon that pulls each of us. Our bodily rhythms, our moods, the patterns of our behavior are all affected by wax and wane of this celestial sphere. Its cosmic sway is present by day and by night. Nitetides seeks truth in the night.

Nitetides began as the soul jazz project of vocalist Nailah Middleton and bassist Alex Hamberger. The pair met in 2014 while attending the California Institute of the Arts, and it wasn’t long before their joint appreciation for bands like Zero 7, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Little Dragon led them to writing together. Over time, their sound emerged as narrative and lyrical while exploratory and open for improvisation. Sci-fi novels, tarot cards, the sun, and the planets became their inspiration, and Middleton and Hamberger assembled the right group of players to help channel the sounds of the sky. 

Nitetides has been playing together since late 2015. Their forthcoming releases were recorded at Beacon Street Studios in Venice, California. As they continue to grow as a cohesive unit, they will reach beyond the stars to inform their alt/soul jazz sound.
