The performances of the night were dedicated to the mystery of the Ocean, its life forms and sound currents.⁣
We aim our art to be not just entertaining or beautiful, but an invitation for the human family to remember how to listen to nature and recover the timeless language between the human & non human.⁣

@muqataa is an electronic musician and MC based in Ramallah, Palestine. Creating sounds using sampled material, field recordings, and electronic devices, the results range between harsh beats, abstract tones, and glitch. He co-founded the Ramallah Underground Collective  [2002-2009]. Muqata'a is also co-founder and member of the sound and image performance group Tashweesh alongside artists Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme. He has released several solo albums including; Inkanakuntu (2018) on Discrepant, Dubt Al-Ghubar (2017) on Third Type Tapes, La Lisana Lah (2017), and Hayawan Nateq (2013). Muqata’a has composed several film scores, as well as scores for dance-theatre performances, and is now working on different collaborative and solo projects.

Sifting

“Umbrae” was sparked by a glitch of personal memory, seeded by a 1920 poem by Bolesław Leśmian titled “Odjazd” (“Departure”).
I’ve played a perilous game of moving a magnifying glass through my personal latent soundspace. I found it filled with glitches of corroded memories, inaccessible to another human being. A half-forgotten poem escaping translation from the language of my childhood; a disembodied scrap of a musical phrase erroneously preserved by my violinist muscle memory. 
Long dark shadows falling, indefinitely. 
Should one never abandon anything forever?  Is this loss?

UMBRAE (2023, Ambisonic soundscape)

Unheard Nature is a sound art installation that explores the symbiotic relationship between nature and technology through the inaudible sounds of the electromagnetic field. Using antennas, radio signals, and electromagnetic radiation from daily life devices, the installation creates a soundscape that blurs the boundaries between noise and natural sounds. The interpretation of these sounds by machine listening (AI) generates a speculative sonic ecosystem that explores the connections between the human and non-human world. Unheard Nature is to experience a speculative world where the inaudible natures of the electromagnetic field are brought to life, revealing a new perspective on the relationship between nature and machines.

A conversation and sound collage that amplifies the voices of Palestine’s diasporas in Latin America. 

Camila Abufom Saba writes:

I immerse myself in Loris's musical universe, and her Middle Eastern melodies captivate me. I identify with those sounds that speak to me in a particular way.

She is Mexican-Palestinian. Or vice versa. Her cultural heritage intertwines with the power of music to take us on a journey beyond nostalgia; it is a testament to the deep roots of our nation that endure despite time.

In the diaspora, as well as under occupation, Palestinians are challenged to take on the responsibility of preserving and sharing our culture and stories. Some of us do this through art.
 
This collage of music, sounds, and conversations serves as a medium, capable of amplifying our voices and reminding us that we are a resilient community, resisting victimhood. We are not only defined by trauma. Loris’ music dislocates us in space-time by echoing feelings and stories common to the experiences of exile.

With this piece my aim is to further comprehend the depth of our origin concerning our modes of expression, the bridges forged between identities transcending borders, and the potential of music as a political force capable of transforming us at the most intimate level, weaving cultural connections.
