Intonarumori and Post-Futurism 2013 - 2023

30/04/21 marked 136 years since Luigi Russolo was born in Portogruaro, Italy. As part of world wide celebrations my Intonarumori played a 90 minute improvised set for 3 Intonarumori and Voice. This is a small excerpt. Always found it notoriously hard to capture this band on tape live ( thats a project for next year with a really good engineer)the frequencies go right through yr blood and weird harmony appears as if by magic... on tape its a bit more of a mooshy blah!  anyeays hope u find some fun in this sonic soupy seance stuff : )

LIVE Intonarumori Trio -Ritual for Russolo's Birthday

Like the short lyrics' meaning "love has no hurry", music makes contrasts on rhythms and textures even inside each part: Main theme starts with fast drums on slow melodies & has a DANCEABLE? 2nd part with lead bass guitar; Central theme makes fast tracks become slow to the left channel and vice-versa, progressing to a POST-ROCK? atmosphere. Meanwhile, two lead guitars and echoing voices complete the contrasting piece. I hope to get your feedback !!!

Starting again from the last groove of the vinyl. Starting again from the rhythm, from the energy, from a newfound need for sociality and tribal ritualism, for empathy, sharing, and dreams.  Starting again from the last Summer, when everything had yet to unfold. And finding yourself now with another Summer about to begin. New Tracks, Nnew Protagonists, a New Journey. Going further into connecting Two Generations, distant yet neighboring: the one that blazed the trail in the early Nineties and the one that continues to follow it Today, with a futuristic perspective, moved by a renewed ferment and an enthralling desire to express themselves and flow in unison, after the long silence of the pandemic. 
The flattering feedback received both from the audience and the critics after releasing the first volume of "Ciao Italia" inevitably inspired us with the idea of a sequel. A new volume animated by the same spirit and attitude as the first one: not a nostalgic or commemorative operation, but a propulsive thrust for a possible evolution. In continuity with the first part of the project, "Ciao Italia – Volume 2" also wants to be a tribute to the artists who wrote this story. Artists who were often forced to use multiple aliases, so many that they can't even remember them all. A story that still sounds incredibly current and that has had the merit of breaking that stereotype of xenophilia of which our country is an undying victim. Much more than just a "scene" it can be described as a mental state, a lifestyle, marked by unifying electronic pulsations, exotic and dreamy, ecstatic and liberating.
Surfing between the past, present and future, “Ciao Italia. Generazioni Underground - Volume 2" delves further into the origins of an era whose sounds and atmospheres remain an endless source of inspiration today. This time involving other seminal producers protagonists of that all-Italian golden age: from Cirillo, Kamasutra (Alex Neri and Marco Baroni), Savino Martinez & Claudio Coccoluto, Ivan Iacobucci, Riviera Traxx (Flavio Vecchi and Ricky Montanari), Tc 1992 (Roberto Intrallazzi and Marco Fratty, here in the remix version of the great Marco Trani) to Tony Carrasco (Exotica), Mauro Ferrucci and Christian Hornbostel (Nikita Warren), Pastaboys (Rame, Uovo & Dino Angioletti), Leo Rosi, Gianni Bini, Jonathan Tedesco (Beat Foundation), Fidelfatti, T.R.A., Oneiric & Vortex, Leo Young, Steve Mantovani, Daniele Mad & Dan E Mc, Corrado Rizza, Harley & Muscle. Additionally passing through unreleased songs by Joe Montana, Edward's World (Edoardo Milani), E.v.o.e. (in a special version remixed by Leopardo), Angelino Albanese, Bruno Bolla and Paolo Guglielmino.
Born from an idea of Daniele "Shield" Contrini, with the art direction of Stupefacente Studio, the collection also includes productions from some of the new "Underground Generation", ideally inspired by the iconic sound of that time, but at the same time kaleidoscopic and ultra-contemporary. Evidence of an avant-garde that is bright and alive not only in memories, but even now more than ever, in the tracks produced by: Baia Club (Whodamanny, Walter Del Vecchio and Dario Bassolino, representing the new Neapolitan school), Cosmo, Donato Dozzy & Rumi, GNMR, Dj SCM, Lvnar, Marco Erroi & Luigi Cordella, Lorenzo Morresi, The Mechanical Man, Populous, Hiver, TiEs and Feel Fly.
Once again, while the record slides under the needle, the hope is to be able to capture that magnetic atmosphere and regain possession of it for a few moments, clinging to the indomitable charm of the "underground" grooves. Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In the late 1980s, I had the opportunity to watch in the cinema Godfrey Reggio's documentary "Koyaaniquatsi" with music by Philip Glass and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, and I became a fan of the soundtrack from this film.

A few months ago I was watching the third season of "Stranger Things" and suddenly, in the third episode, in the last scene, I heard familiar sounds. Without checking, I could tell I could hear Phillip's music. And so it was. My fascination was revived and I felt the urge to create something similar to his style.
Unfortunately, my creativity and time has its limits and I haven't been able to make a full song... yet ;) But I'm sharing with you an idea, or rather an introduction to this piece. I hope you like it at least a little :)

L'arte dei Rumori - Letter from a Battle. ( Collaboration with Copyc4t )

Challenge was to make one of my shorter songs with one of my longer lyrics, so I 'had' to craft it into an amalgam of 9/4 and 4/4 signatures. Thus, it may feel crazy on verses but I hope also catchy on refrains.

Letra / Translated lyrics:

Sólo pido no tener deseos (Ya no quiero imaginar)  /  I ask only not to have desires (I don’t want to imagine anymore)

¿Puedes explicarme qué es lo que me pasa?  /  Can you tell me what happens to me?
Señor, llévate de mí esta confusión.  /  Lord, take away this confusion.
Quítame el don de la inteligencia,  /  Take the gift of intelligence from me,
pues si no pensara tanto, sería feliz.  /  because if I didn’t think so much, I would be happy.

Siento que este mundo me es extraño,  /  I feel this world is strange,
estoy a disgusto con mis sentidos.  /  I get displeasure from my senses.
No puedo comprender su funcionamiento,  /  I cannot understand their functioning,

Nucleus - First Contact

Movement 11 from my 2020 exhibition 'La morte mi troverà vivo' (death will find me alive). I dont know where to start or finish with the story of this piece - if you want the long version please go to bandcamp https://nomatesensemble.bandcamp.com/album/la-morte-mi-trover-vivo  there 3 essays on the exhibition in the notes and of course the whole work which is 90 minutes long. This piece for Intonarumori was the starting point for the show, written and recorded to be played at Luigi Russolo's grave as a form of 'calling ' to his spirit. La morte mi troverà vivo is a kind of sonic seance where i composed music as an evocation and used occult number theory to manipulate field recordings to capture what i term an 'imagined response from the spirit world'. The work was made in Italy July/August 2019 and exhibited in Hobart Tasmania in Jan/Feb 2020. I will post visual links and more info at a stage, though of course its a sound installation (i managed to get the whole room to softly rumble with speakers installed out of site in the walls and under the floor)so there isn't heaps to see. :) Thank you all, sorry to ramble !!
