I decided to take acoustic stabs at one of my  previous Christmas songs.  This song is based on my real life Uncle Lou.
The lead vocals (Rhode NT1  5th generation mic) and guitar (Taylor 114ce,  capo first fret, plugged in) were recorded simultaneously on two separate tracks and then I went back and added the backing vocals (strongly resisting the urge to add any other instruments).

Christmas comes once a year.
It’s a time of happiness and cheer and it’s also the one day that Uncle Lou gets to use his electric knife
He used to work in a butcher shop and all day long there was meat to chop.
But now he’s an accountant and his life is kind of dull in a mind numbing sort of way.

But when it comes time for Uncle Lou to cut the Christmas ham and turkey
he get’s a wild gleam in his eye
He says don’t worry I’m a professional
I know what I am doing
as we all try to get out of his way

Uncle Lou’s got the electric knife
And we’re fearing for his life
That poor turkey had no chance
I think I’m gonna wet my pants
We’re afraid that Santa won’t come
And if he does he’ll turn and run
He’ll take one look Uncle Lou
And his reindeers will be scared too

They say Electric knives have a high injury potential
And losing a finger is very consequential
But Uncle Lou doesn’t seem to care
He’s got the culinary version of a chainsaw in his hand
And he picks it up and he takes command
If he had a hockey mask you’d swear it was Friday the 13th
After a few minutes his job is complete
And then we all sit down to eat
Instead of saying grace we thank God that his fingers have survived for another year

I recently posted a collaboration with the Eclectic Collective gang, which featured various Middle Eastern & North African instruments from a VST sound pack I got my hands on. The song was "Oh My Darlin',  Palestine". Here's a link to that track:

I was pretty happy with how it turned out, because I've been playing this kind of music for many years on drums & percussion and flute, but always wanted to play other instruments in this style as well. So, I figured I'd try another one, so here it is. 

I'm playing everything here using my keyboard. The instruments featured are:
Duduk (Armenian reed instrument), Tanbur & Saz (stringed instruments), Daf, Dumbek & Riq (percussion instruments), and Cello.

K’aylir Indz Het (walk with me)

This is the third Texas Tea song from me and @texmex-shaman that has a super dark eerie mournful vibe to it. We are thinking of them as a kind of trilogy that began with "Got a Light", continued with "Black Coffee" and culminates with this one. Each title is a reference to David Lynch's Twin Peaks. In season 1 or 2 of that show, the main character Agent Cooper says that he takes his coffee "as black as the sky on a moonless night". The mood is kind of appropriate for the weather this time of year, at least in my part of the world!

Always a great experience making these experimental tunes with @enigmacurry. Usually I'll send Ryan a fairly simple arrangement of beats and synth melodies. By the time he is done rearranging and adding to the mix, it becomes a beautifully complex tapestry with lots of cool improvisational flourishes in terms of both musical performance and production techniques.
