- Make a song in response to the weekly assigned poem (a new poem is published every Wednesday)
- When choosing a title for your piece also include the assignment number, for example “Title of your track (naviarhaiku110)”

- If you’re a Soundcloud user, upload it on Soundcloud and send me the URL via private message, or tag me in the track.
- If you upload your music on Youtube, Bandcamp or anywhere else, upload your submission and then send me the link by email at marco@naviarrecords.com or contact me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram

The context of creation: 
a room where a shy sun shines 
for a few hours.
Isolation.
The winter.
Uncertain times.
Stretches of hours.
Tensions.
I look at a candle.
it redesigns its shape as it wears out.

I Am the one who fuels the fire
I am the one who consumes it
I am flame
Devoured by itself.

Its glow
Like a wound in the dark.

Music’s everywhere:
the sea, the wind, the rain, the
storm, the raging fire.

Isabel del Rio is a British-Spanish poet, author and linguist. Born in Madrid, she has lived in London most of her life.

She writes and has published poetry and fiction in both English and Spanish. She is a great admirer of Japanese poetic forms, and her poetry is as concise and intense as her preferred composition, the haiku 5-7-5.

Her poetry collections include Madrid Madrid Madrid, Dolorem Ipsum, and Cuaderno de notas. Her most recent fiction includes Paradise & Hell, A Woman Alone: fragments of a memoir, and La autora del fin del mundo.

She has worked as a full-time broadcaster and journalist for the BBC World Service, and as a full-time translator and terminologist for a London-based UN agency. She is currently studying for a PhD in Creative Writing.

For Tom Blackwell.  Tom was a very active funk drummer on the Portland ME scene in the 80s and 90s. I played with Tom for about ten years until 2017 or so. We had a lot of fun. Tom's ability to write music is unusual for a drummer. Tom's compositions were always well thought out, fun, and interesting. He usually sang his songs too. Tom was also a first in class sound engineer. I had hoped to spend time learning sound from Tom after I retire. Alas, I'll be using a Quija board to get tips now.

I'll keep plugging away at this piece. I have to say, it felt like Tom had input. Maybe I don't need a Quija Board after all.
