Since Amani Friend (of Desert Dwellers, Liquid Bloom) met Alex DeYoung in 1995, the duo has experienced many forms of electronic music. As the scene has shifted and evolved, the two producer's paths have ebbed and flowed in and out of each other's lives. After a long hiatus, Variant Field have come to Gravitas Recordings for their first EP in over a decade, Immeasurable. Represented via three original tracks, two edits, and remixes by Lil Fish and DISSØLV, Immeasurable evokes a timeless space, a portal beyond the edge of genres and boxes. Immeasurable nods to several nodes along the electronic music spectrum the two have experienced since the mid '90s, while bringing the music into modern bass realms. Through this, Variant Field has successfully masterminded an emotive, cinematic piece of work that is in perpetual flux.
 
In winter, a mysterious "Silhouette" stands tall in front of the dark gateway, welcoming listeners as she ushers them through the arch. Rewinding time, autumn re-emerges and courages "Letting Go" through hypnotic, melodic beats. "Immeasurable" is an explorative odyssey that floats through a tranquil nebula. Contributing their own creations of the title track, Lil Fish incorporates hypnotic chants and ethereal world influence that precedes wobbly bass energy, while DISSØLV adds dominant yet quivery basslines to the ether. Fast forwarding to spring, "Letting Go" further propels the enchanting, tribal excursion. Coming full circle in summer, "Silhouette" is a darker, more modern IDM offering that pulls listeners back through the gateway and shuts the portal.

"Vindheks" is Danish for "tumbleweed" and to me it's a metaphor for the emotional turmoil I was going through back in 2018 and which I, to this day, still struggle with.
Even though I'm in a much better place today, the lurking danger of going back into a high state of stress will always be there. It's something I know a lot of people are struggling with so let's not make it into a taboo please.

In January 2022 Apple Music added “Vindheks” to its "New Music Daily" playlist throughout the Nordic countries and Spotify added it to their "Ambiente", "Música para Pintar" & "Cinematica" playlists worldwide.

Champagne Dreams, out May 6th on Gravitas Recordings, is a true testament of High Step Society’s sound. The group has been creating buzz while making stops on their “High Step Society Spring Tour, and gearing up for their sets at both Lightning In a Bottle and Summer Meltdown Festival, they have no plans to slow down. Inspired by the perseverance and evolution that the group went through in the midst of the pandemic, Champagne Dreams is the creative outlet High Step Society cultivated, bringing in feelings of ease in times of uncertainty.  

Champagne Dreams opens the EP with mystical synths slowly getting louder by the second, leaving you in a trance. Strong vocals accompanied by distinct keys pair perfectly with one another creating a vibey atmosphere that will keep you on your feet. Calamity Strut softly begins with piano notes that lead its way to a shimmering horn section, shining all the way from beginning to end making it one hard to forget. Girls Do It Best is easily a summer anthem. Between the sultry vocals and heavy synths, it perfectly showcases the elegant genre blending talents the group is capable of. Moonlight Creep, does indeed sneak up on you with its slow start. Instantly, you feel as if you have been transported back to the 50s being surrounded by the track’s hit-hats and snares so deeply you feel it in your chest. 
Flora’s New Shoes ends the EP with a fast-paced electro-swing tune, filled with unconventional arrangements of high-energy horns, low-leveled bass, and deep synthesizers that flow seamlessly together.

We are now in the final stages of launching the new and improved website and re-releasing our past catalogue. In support of our website relaunch, we have reached out to many artists whom we’ve worked with in the past, asking them to contribute an exclusive single for FREE download. After contacting 100+ artists we received 44 incredible submissions. The overwhelming support from these artists speaks for itself.

LIS V/A 003, our most recent compilation, received an incredible reception; attaining 40,000+ listens from over 50+ countries within the first 48 hours. We expect nothing less this time around. This compilation and our collective voice moving forward will focus on sound system and audiophile quality music and events. Our collective goal has always been to shed light on the innovative underdogs within the experimental electronic music sphere, all the while encouraging the moulting process of the over genre-fied mainstream.
