this warm sunday morning brings us a rather special offering, a hybrid set supplied by berlin based producer, and dj - sarah wreath who stretched her ambient muscles at fellow delayed favorite kato de vidts’ ambient tide series. here is what she had to say about the set:

this recording captures my hybrid performance at ambient tide in brussels—an event meticulously crafted by kato de vidts to deliver a profound journey of deep listening within an immersive environment.

centered around the chao gong as the primary instrument, the performance featured layered organic soundscapes enhanced by effects processing. this resulted in a hybrid set comprising compositions ranging from ambient to experimental, incorporating elements of icaros and ritual hymns.

the fundamental tone of the chao gong, 110 hertz, known as the fundamental pitch of om chanting, has been shown to aid in emotional processing and relaxation, exerting a profound effect on the right hemisphere of the brain. this hemisphere is recognized as the locus of artistic expression, spirituality, emotion, imaginative thinking, and breakthrough innovation.

Demo72, formed in 2022, is the project of Denø and Moritz Werner, who have come together to explore and create ambient music.

Denø, a DJ and producer from Tübingen, Germany, is known for his driving, rhythmic, and hypnotic tracks. Over the years, he has developed a deep connection to ambient music, which he both produces and seamlessly integrates into his sets. This passion for immersive soundscapes finds a perfect match in his collaboration with Moritz Werner.

Moritz, hailing from Stuttgart, is the co-founder of Grauzone Records and a resident DJ at Different Spaces, a party series at Lehmann Club Stuttgart. With Grauzone Records, he has not only hosted numerous events in Stuttgart but also spearheaded Fundraiser VAs to support humanitarian efforts in countries like Turkey and Syria. 

Their mix for Unrush is a testament to their shared vision. It is a journey between numbing sonority and periodic percussion, designed to evoke deep sensations and personal memories. With a selection that includes mostly unreleased tracks, Demo72 presents a blend of calm elements, gentle vocals, and an undercurrent of darkness, creating a profound and immersive listening experience. Given their social involvement and refined musical taste, it was only natural to bring them on board for Unrush…

Le Château Perché festival 2024 invited us to produce the artistic programme for a downtempo and ambient stage “Bel Étang” for one day. It was an opportunity to invite talented artists from near and far, and to share them with the perched public.

Here's one of the first audio testimonies of this adventure: a captivating recording signed by Belgian duo Aaron & Laika < 3< 3< 3. Their live hybrid harmoniously blends downtempo, deep and ambient, sublimated by poetic vocals, a night blooming tales.

It is in this way and at this crossroads that we might discover this new mix, sewn like lace by the emerging and talented Norwegian artist Henrii Havaas, who offers us an hour of music at once teeming with detail and perfectly balanced, between macro-rhythms, sound-design, tribal grooves and evocative atmospheres. Despite having a discography that dates back to the last millennium, Pittsburgh’s Shawn Rudiman has never quite enjoyed the spotlight he deserves. His often analog electro and techno manages to be tough but not austere, and it has come under his own name as well as in the duo THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) on a range of boutique labels. He’s a prolific artist who this month looks back on his career with a two disc retrospective, Timespan on Pittsburgh Tracks, that offers largely brand new tracks which “go from base-level warehouse to more cerebral sophistication”. 

That versatility shows when he lays down one of his mesmeric live shows, as he has done for us in this exclusive new set. It’s just 45 minutes long but packs a lot in, from soul infused Detroit techno to elastic house. Passages of serenity are often followed by a heavily percussive wake-up call or serrated acid line, but never do things feel forced. From dark to light, visceral to beautiful, it has many different moods and is a great reminder of the talents of one of techno’s lesser known stars.

Well, where do we start…. It all began on a warm Saturday in the pre-pyranese mountains at Paral.lel festival. We found our perfect chill out spot and were settling into a cold beer while our fellow campers slowly appeared from their tents to start a new day of music and connection. We happily surrendered to the beautiful surroundings and let the music carry us away… and then came MouseDown, an artist we hadn’t heard of before, but one we certainly wouldn’t forget in a hurry.

For the next three hours, mouseDown took us on a perfect, slowly evolving journey, creating a stunning, electric atmosphere that left us in a state of wonder and gratitude. Storytelling at its finest!

We immediately reached out to connect and express our appreciation, inviting mouseDown to be part of On the 5th Day’s podcast series in honour of that memory and moment in time, and to bring you a slice of the inspiration. mouseDown went onto record a very special vinyl only, 2.5 hour mix just for On the 5th Day, and here it is.

Here is an artist working absolute magic with heart, soul and humility, sweeping us music lovers off of our feet in the process! When he’s not DJ’ing, he’s producing under the alias, ABSIS... one to watch!
