Skankandbass is dedicated towards the official promotion of record labels and artists in the world of drum & bass music. Since inception in 2009, Skankandbass has unearthed some of the freshest talents in the scene and has opened many doors for unsigned artists. Now, through Skankandbass Introducing we release a series of free download singles which aims to spread the work of the best unsigned, newcomer artists who deserve more recognition.

As drum & bass becomes an increasingly global scene, it often has the power to unite people across continents and oceans.  This is the case with SNB087 which comes from young talents Leniz and Painted Skies, who are based in Holland and Mexico respectively.  The duo have featured across a plethora of labels including Galacy, Fokuz and Differential (where Leniz acts as A&R); and they now bring their exquisite liquid sound to Skankandbass Introducing on ‘Back When / Let Me Love You Once More’.

When the sun's out and a season of holidays, festivals, and general good times stretches lazily out in front of you, there's only one thing required to complete the picture. And that's a drum 'n' bass soundtrack, ideally curated by some of the most respected tastemakers in the scene. Lucky us, then. Drumsound & Bassline Smith are back with another Technique Summer compilation stacked with the full three-sixty of DnB. It's big.

Of course, the label bosses themselves treat us to a couple of choice cuts from their studio. There's the epically atmospheric “I Want Your Love”, and you've probably already heard the militant jazz-tech of “The Hustler” scything through a rave in recent weeks.

Then there's Technique's roll-call of soldiers. From the intimate and emotive sounds of Tapolsky & VovKING, via a minimal roller from Kronology and a sunlit take on Gradual's sound, onto the main stage fireworks of L Plus and Tantrum Desire's contributions, and the unshakably individual MaxNRG, we've got every piece in the jigsaw. Document One fans will be buzzing for “Uh Huh VIP”, while recent signings No Concept show what they can do with two different takes on “Silhouette”. T-Phonic & Deadman come correct with the “Time Travel”, while Deadman (now known as Al Storm) gives us two versions of the house-influenced “Always There”.

Clearly, this album is packed with anthems, and that's before we've even discussed the guest contributions from a huge range of disparate artists. Aquasky and North Base make return appearances to the Technique banner, there's the legend that is DJ SS, and Multifunction boss Levela delivers his debut for the label. The explosive euphoria of Smooth's “All Over the World” will already be familiar to those in the know since it dropped as an album sampler, and, similarly, names like NC-17, Dave Owen, and Muffler need no introduction.

You only have to glance down the list of thirty-six tracks on this album and the eye-watering array of artists assembled for this project to see the love that Drumsound & Bassline Smith have put into compiling it. Names range from undisputed institutions of DnB to relative newcomers, with music touching every corner of the scene. This is a summer album, sure, but it's also a 2018 DnB album demonstrating the strength, breadth and depth this music has to offer. The sun's come out and the heat has arrived.

No Concept, Technique's boundary-traversing, category-defying production duo, are back. Following up from one of their biggest releases to date – the huge 'Be the 1' backed with 'Remember' – expectations are high, and with A-lister support already secured for this release, it looks like they've struck gold once again.

Hit play on 'Falling' and we're immediately transported back to the roots. The reggae samples, the reverb, the delay and the building rhythmical elements all combine to evoke that early crucible of sounds that spawned jungle. But we know how No Concept do by now. The clue's in the name, and just when we think we've got a handle on their sound, they twist up the style once again.

While the sub-genre pigeon-holers debate whether this is deconstructed two-step jungle or reggae-influenced jump-up, the rest of us will be too busy skanking out to the the incendiary drop. Savage bass timbres drive the energy onwards while rolling drums – drawing heavily on classic breaks – set the mood. If the ultra-slick production levels didn't give it away, this could easily be a revisited classic from the mid-nineties, and it's going to hit like a hammer-blow wherever it's played.

Still coming with something fresh every single time, if you didn't have No Concept on your list of buy-on-sight artists before this release, it's about time that changed.

This release comes as the latest in a surge of highly-regarded, level-raising releases from Technique's No Concept. 'Be The 1', 'Remember' and 'Falling' quickly became some of their most celebrated tunes to date so, having raised the bar, the No Concept boys are hear to vault it once again.

'Let Me Know' opens with a chilled moment of ethereal melody. Simple and stripped back, until the approach of rolling drums transports us immediately to blissed out summer DnB memories. The hazy chords stand aside and allow soulful vocals to take centre stage. Right from the intro, this is sunlight DnB.

And then the tune drops, delivering a pure dose of atmospheric liquid-infused music. Those sharp, precise drums anchor the tune to the dancefloor, while allowing the building harmonies, melodies and vocals to propel the music onwards. No Concept construct a multi-layered, musically-potent landmark right before our eyes and ears without ever losing touch with that raw emotivbe vibe.

This might be No Concept's furthest excursion yet into this style and, once again, it cements how accurate their name is. With no fixed concept or formula of what their sound should be, they simply deliver drum 'n' bass music of all shades and tones. This is No Concept on a roll.

Meet Brian and Russ, aka No Concept.

Coming up in the bass music scene of the UK's south coast, it was almost inevitable that their shared passion for constructing powerful dancefloor beats would lead them to start collaborating. And so the seeds of No Concept were planted.

Brian was already well-established as a dubstep producer, with several million YouTube views and features on massive compilations in his CV. Under the name Dubba Jonny, he'd been responsible for anthems like “All In”, and the viral “Dubstep Production” series that walked the line between parody and purist bass-and-beat carnage.

Simultaneously, Russ, aka Russla, was rising through the ranks of Bournemouth's drum 'n' bass scene. As a deejay, he became a regular fixture of the biggest line-ups in the area, sharing flyer-space with A-listers like Shy FX, Sub Zero, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, and Hatcha.

The pair's first forays into production together were, by their own admission, “for fun”, but as their joint output started to build a reputation, labels came calling. Adopting the name Glass Cobra, they began to deliver a series of hard, aggressive releases and rave-wrecking back-to-back deejay sets that put them firmly on the map.

No Concept is the next stage of their evolution. Wiping the slate clean with a brand new name, Brian and Russ are coming with a fresh new approach without any thought for sub-genre constraints or preconceptions. Each one of their releases comes loaded with unpredictability coming, as it might, from any part of the drum 'n' bass spectrum.

But, whether they're delivering a sunlit vocal anthem or a viciously filthy rave-weapon, it's always with the same dedication to musical and technical skill that saw them catch the eye of Technique Recordings in the first place. The No Concept story is just beginning.
