Requiem for the Past

Introduction in English:

People often tell me that when they are with a loved one who is about to die, they feel particularly close to them. 
Sometimes, in such moments, the history of their relationship flashes before their eyes. 
Some report reaching a deeper peace with the person in question shortly before their death. Often, the dying say things they have never been able to say in their lifetime. For example, a father who, shortly before his death, is able to tell his daughter for the first and only time that he has always loved her.
Many of those left behind tell me that they did not want to let the dying person go, but that they somehow realized that they had to let go of their loved one so that they could pass away as peacefully as possible; that they could not “die with them,” but had to continue living alone. 
And it is not uncommon for those who are approaching death to tell their accompanying relatives that they should continue to live well and in peace.
All of these stories inspired me to write the song “Mourir (Dying).” And as always, for such fundamental existential experiences, I choose the language that best expresses these radical moments of transition: French.

One of my longest improvisations, so far. Probably the most intense one, too. I am absorbing and reflecting the rapidly changing atmosphere in our world. It is getting more and more hostile and dark. We should try to change this. I feel helpless and I begin to worry about our future.

Pool Max Blue

"Pool Max Blue" is a tribute to David Hockney and his iconic swimming pool paintings, especially "Big Splash." The song combines the aesthetic of blue waters with an emotional message about separation. The moment when the protagonist discovers the other person is leaving symbolizes a deep dive, filled with uncertainty but also hope for a new beginning. Hockney's blue tone emphasizes the intensity of emotion and the new, unknown space into which the protagonist immerses himself. It's a musical story about overcoming difficult times and finding a new path, all embedded in Hockney's artistic aesthetic.

"Alchemy of Life" is a tribute to Maria Skłodowska-Curie, who was one of the few people in the world to win two Nobel Prizes in two different fields: physics and chemistry. The piece captures the extraordinary passion and determination of this scientist, who was unafraid to face dangers in the name of progress. It reminds us that every step in science, although it can lead to great discoveries, carries risks, even mortal ones. Despite this, Maria Skłodowska-Curie constantly strived to expand the frontiers of knowledge, aware of the dangers her research posed. The piece highlights both her genius and her courage and dedication to science. It reminds us that science, while fraught with challenges, is also a passion that drives humanity forward. It is a tribute to her legacy, which continues to inspire future generations of scientists.

Sacred Time

Carried Away

Noel is a writer of songs and stories rather than a musical performer. His songs have been described as reflective as they are motivated by the struggles, celebrations and tensions of everyday life. His musical stories typically address issues as diverse as cancer and homelessness, addictions, love, loss and troubled relationships. These songs are led by the lyrics and are a mix of folk, country and blues.
Inspired by a diverse range of music from Leonard Cohen to Jason Isbell, Noel's songs took years to find their voice.Noel was born in Ireland and currently lives there but spent many years living and working in Africa. Much of his inspiration has been drawn from his own life experiences including his more recent journey with cancer. ‘Stars in Heaven’ is one of a number of songs dealing with cancer.  This particular song was chosen by Music Beats Cancer after submissions by over 800 other artists.
Noel says “ I really hope that the songs can reach a much bigger audience. I also hope that the songs can help, even in some small way, in connecting with people and in raising awareness and support for the issues they address."
