On her third full-length album, C. Lavender delves into her
experience with a profoundly impactful Buddhist meditation
centered in the sacrifice of the self as a source of liberation.

“Rupture in The Eternal Realm” is a musical reinterpretation and
compendium to C. Lavender’s experience studying the Tibetan
Buddhist meditation practice known as chöd. The practice
traditionally involves musical instruments including drums
(ḍamaru), trumpets (kangling), bells and chanting. Rather than try
to recreate the practice's musical ritual, C. Lavender used it as a
point of departure for reflecting on her inner connection with the
meditation, one which she continued to dive into throughout the
pandemic. The song titles are taken from lines within the
traditional chöd chant, which is akin to a musical composition and
serves as a visualization guide throughout the meditative process.
“Rupture in The Eternal Realm” creates a new paradigm in the
grand tradition of women electronic music composers such as
Laurie Anderson, Éliane Radigue, and Pauline Oliveros connecting
forward-thinking music with Buddhist principals.

The album features recordings made on Buchla 200 synthesizer,
Haken Continuum, gongs, voice, brainwave modulating tones, EVI
and field recordings from the Karma Triyana Dharmachakra
Buddhist temple in Woodstock, NY.

"[...] Formed from an ascetic palette of untreated beats and single-frequency synths, The Neurobiology Of Moral Decision Making flaunts Fell and Lázár's microscopic attention to detail throughout, with each track drawing your attention to a tiny parameter variation. Unlike the pointillist studies of Ryoji Ikeda and Florian Hecker, the results are unexpectedly itchy, funky and exhilarating - as the press release says, this neuroscience is "almost compatible with footwork". Amid all the odd numbered time signatures and disorientating multitimbral drones, the disc works a sincere homage to the intricate web of kick drums and snares of Chicago dance music.

When Autechre and Aphex Twin deployed loops of ball-bearing sounds a decade and a half ago, in "VI Scose Poise" and "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" ,things could slip up and fall flat. This self-conscious IDM was, as Matthew Ingram put it in The Wire 349, "the worst of both worlds, like pipe-smoking breakdancer". Here, in the untitled seventh track, the same rhythmic pattern spawns five minutes of compelling material, a rapid dancefloor cut in which Fell's beat suddenly drops midway through, leaving Lázár's synth flickering alongside a flurry of invisible trainers. The album retains a focus on the danceable, at least until the 12 minute finale, whose strobing and pitched-up snares from the highest bpm of the entire set. Like Hans Christian Andersen's gory tale of the red shoes, this flurry of hyper-rhythmic noise finally passes the bounds of footwork altogether, pointing towards a mechanical state in which human dance is impossible. [...]"

"Rave deconstruction has been back in the spotlight lately. Established figures like Russell Haswell and Mark Fell are in high demand from young labels like Diagonal and Liberation Technologies. And a new generation of musicians are following in their footsteps, taking the conventions and materials of dance music and reshaping them in weird and wonderful ways. Lee Gamble, a self-professed Editions Mego fanatic, puts techno under the microscope. Lorenzo Senni pens bizarre sonic essays on trance. Budapest's Gábor Lázár, meanwhile, fires out machinegun patterns of abrasive synth tones, transforming a single eardrum-scraping rave sound into a study on the psychedelic properties of the dance floor. Music this intensely minimalist is difficult to get right. It risks draining its subject of the qualities that make it so exciting, or else prioritising concept over a musically engaging outcome. The French, Berlin-based DJ’s genre-defying sets are a hypnotic blend of tradition and
futurism, weaving psychedelic layers of traditional music, free jazz, noise, dub, footwork,
and breakcore. She has been lauded for her ability to captivate audiences with fearless
experimentation and the ability to jump seamlessly between bpms and genres.
Morphine Records,YOUTH &amp; Ominira affiliate, Marylou has graced stages at Atonal,
Intonal, CTM, and Berghain, and opened for boundary-pushing acts like Senyawa, Actress,
and Valentina Magaletti. Her fans include esteemed figures such as Donato Dozzy, Rabih
Beaini, DJ Marcelle, Lena Willikens, and more, drawn to her unique sonic narratives that
evoke her background in painting, cinema, and soundsystem culture. From organizing
Parisian parties to advising in studios and becoming a Rinse France resident, Marylou’s
journey has shaped her into a trailblazing artist. Now based in Berlin and a part of this
year’s SHAPE+ roster, she’s integral to Morphine Raum’s community, crafting mixes
steeped in cinematic, improvisational, and noisy explorations while keeping dance at her
heart.

Liquefaction - extended live version of „In The Heat“ (Liquid Bones) - is an electroacoustic study of form and structure, shaped by their impermanence and transience. Over 11 minutes, layers of electronics, orchestral textures, and digital elements dissolve and reform, creating a highly dynamic and immersive listening experience that is as delicate as it is forceful, where moments of tension and release continuously reshape the listening space.

Liquefaction is a music that takes its time — because time in music is not what we think we know.
