For the 17th instalment of the ever expanding NS Mix Series, we’re proud to welcome [spoiler alert] newest NS Records recruit, @indentsound. The London based producer and hard-hitting Bristol sub maestro has been producing for 7 years and DJ'ing for even longer, rolling onto the commercial release scene with @holdinghandsrecords earlier in the year. Indent received deserved recognition when @desertsoundcolony picked him for a two-track digi EP; Brad submitted his track 'Falling' to a live remix session on YouTube by the head honcho himself, and whilst originally not intending to release commercially, the concept ended up being too strong not to 💿

In this mix, Brad brings us 45 minutes of mind bending blends and bangers, including local belters from @waltonmcr, @korzi_uk / @hedchef and @zenkerbrothers. When you’re done shivering in your local beer garden, pop these heavy hitters on for a nice ol’ reminisce of that 2am peak; hang in there, June’s just round the corner 🛸

Not forgetting her ongoing @balamii residency, Mixtress is taking the DJ world by an absolute storm... and that’s all before clubs have even opened their doors again. 

Mixtress was kind enough to give a bit of insight to the method behind the madness and what to expect from her as clubs ready to open their doors again... International travel may be up in the air still, but we’re travelling way across the globe for the next installment in our mix series... from none other than Cakeshop Seoul resident, @hyunh33 who joins us for Mix 019. 🍰✈️📡

Since graduating from the Red Bull DJ Academy, Hyunhee has been making a serious name for herself, playing across various venues across Seoul, including VILLA RECORDS BAR, CABINETCLUB HOUSE and 1F Bar, as well as being an established resident at Cakeshop Seoul. With the pand3mic taking hold, Hyunhee took to the online stage with regular streams on YouTube and Soundcloud, for the likes of @seoulcommunityradio (including a demo VR livestream 😎), @mixmixtv, Japanese radio station @soundsports, culminating in a recent live-stream fundraising effort for @boxoutfm, based in India. 🇮🇳🇯🇵🇰🇷

With a keen ear for beefy bass and faster bpm’s, this half hour brings together a blend of hip hop, grime, breaks, techno and electro, with a myriad of fast cuts ready to transport you somewhere far, far away. 💨💨

As our Mix Series hits the big 2-0, just like the soaring temps this week, we couldn’t help but think we’re not quite ready for British summer to end just yet… so bringing a wubbly heatwave that’s here to stay, we’re joined by local gal and @notbadforagirlmcr resident, @dai-su for Mix #020. 🌞🌻🥵

After originally moving to Manchester to study, multitalented DJ and producer DaiSu slipped and fell into the thriving underground scene and has been stuck there ever since. Keeping busy with features on stations such as @projectbrand, @threadsradio, @1020radio and @melodic-distraction, as well as playing on line ups for collectives ‘n brands such as @shiftingspheres, Skiddle and @warpedmcr, DaiSu is certainly one to keep an eye on when clubs open their doors again shortly. 👀

Bringing us something we’re yet to have featured on our mix series, DaiSu hits us with an hour of that low trembling, heavy hitting dubstep bass; including a cheeky lil number from Estonian dubstep label, @bass372. 🔊🔊

Kicking off our Residents Series are @insurrectuk and @mannypmusic - gracing your ears with a beefy ‘n wobbly b2b; we thought it was only right to invite them down to give y’all a taster of what to expect come July 30th, when @patrice_dj goes b2b with our very Special Guest. 

Though elusive to the social media sphere, Manny P has been spinning garage and bassline bangers for the better part of the last decade. As one half of Bookey Beats, Manny P played alongside the likes of Tempa T, DJ Cameo, TQD, Devilman, Champion, Burgaboy, T2, Mr V, Hi5Ghost, X5 Dubz, DJ EJ and many more. With a keen ear for fast cuts and blends, he’ll be powering up the crowd, ready for our headliners. 

Insurrect, on the other hand, cut his teeth in the Hull party circuit as a Crystal Clear resident; having supported the likes of Conducta, Madam X, Sir Hiss and Smokey Bubblin’ B, and hosted nights in Hull, Manchester and Shrewsbury. With a penchant for the darker, sub-centred avenues of electronic music, reflected in his @subtleradio and @altoradio residencies, Insurrect will be bringing the hype to the opening hours of the night.

On the ‘dark’ side, three remixes to pair, from London lad Shawn Cartier, Cali-based Farsight, and Raiders Records very own Young Lychee - bringing their own spicy slant to our three originals.

A whole season has passed since our last mix, and we’d love to say it’s looking like spring (but of course, it’s raining in Manchester), so launching back in with MIX025, we’re bringing nothing but good vibes from @savsannah. 

Cali-born, Cologne-based Savsannah aspires to bring people together through music, community building, and writing. Over the past six years, she's grown as an artist and has found herself in different pockets of the city, such as hosting her bi-monthly dublab DE radio show "This Must Be The Place," co-founding the new contemporary pop-focused label, Safe Space Records, and also co-founding the queer-feminist collective, cumming. In the past two years, she started DJing at various venues and parties in Cologne, focusing her sets on creating a welcoming space, where listeners can escape to another world and feel an array of emotions.

Having always had a brilliant way with words, Sav was kind enough to guide us through this hour of tunes:

‘I call it “Ocean Nostalgia” – a mix that shimmers in the air when you turn the volume up for more. It’s memories of the salty breeze filling my nostrils with empathy and solace. It’s the days from my San Francisco apartment on Moraga Street, walking out the door with my Bluetooth speaker playing a pop bop as I skip down to Ocean Beach’s dunes. The mix begins with low tides, shallow waters, and calm ripples. Island vibes on a coastline. As it progresses, beach balls bounce on top of the house beats. Snow cones under a palm tree. Then as we climax, the high tide rolls in with the chaotic sunset colors. Wild waves and shores of summer.’

Friday has rolled around quick again, and we’re back with another mix; with quick fire blends, scope across the whole musical spectrum, and putting the multi in multi-genre, it’s @alexisitry with Mix #26. 

Bristol based artist, Alexisitry, has been carving a name for herself all across the UK’s club and festival scene over the last couple years. Riding on the airwaves with a recent bathroom set on @hoerberlin, guest slots on @rinsefm, a recent showcase on the LT Podcast (@lobster-theremin), and her monthly Friday night residency with @swufm, it’s clear she’s only going from strength to strength. On the ground, Alexistry has been curating her own nights, Alexistry Cocktail Club, showcasing Bristol’s diverse underground talent, as well as taking on a multitude of performances - including Annie Mac’s Lost & Found, supporting artists such as Eats Everything, Young Marco, Dj Boring, Palms Trax, Nightmares on Wax, Fjaak and Partiboi69, and playing at prolific venues such as Printworks, Motion, @boilerroomtv, Glastonbury, Hideout and more, the only way is up for this blossoming artist. 

We weren’t joking when we say the scope on this mix is huuuuuge - from UK Funky to UKG, to wobbly drum grooves and driving techno rhythms as a closer; dig deep for forthcoming bits from @ec2a, @lobstertheremin, @fauxpoly, and 887. Get stuck in.

Belfast born, rising Manchester-based talent @kh0lle joins us for our 27th edition in our Mix Series. We're very excited to be showcasing them this weekend, taking us on a journey through 2-step rhythms, Acid, Trance & beyond.

Having recently played an incredible set in the city for High Hoops at TWH, as well as regular sets at XLR, this mix gives us plenty of late night, wintery club flavours to bring in the colder season.

‘’As summer moves further from sight, I wanted to put together a mix of tunes that evoke those darker wintery nights (which are probably my favourite times in the club). It contains many different flavours of house music both new and old (with a healthy dose of trance) which I think exemplify this mood. 

I love the malleability of club music that allows you to give a classic renewed freshness by putting it in a new context, and also being able to experiment with 3 deck mixing to create interesting new sounds. I really tried to push these aspects in the mix so I hope you all enjoy the final product.

Good Evening. Let’s get straight to it. We are now approaching phase 4 of our mix series. Unlike Boris, we’ve got one clear message. As of Friday 6pm, we’re bringing straight vibes from the second home of Noire State founder, and the ancestral home of Makina, Pease Pudding and Greggs. Pre-drinks from 3pm. Pub till 10pm. Back to ours for a sesh… to Dyslecta’s mix. 

With a cross-genre focus on Dub, Techno, Electro, Hardcore, and of course, Breakbeat, Dyslecta has cemented himself as a respected resident at the endless list of parties, hosted by 12 year old Newcastle legends, Ape-X. Releasing his debut record this year, also under @ape-x-music, Dyslecta is the latest unique voice to emerge from the North East. Taking influence from artists such as Drexicya, Claro Interlecto, Skee Mask and Hodge (amongst others), be sure to check out this belter of an EP. 

If you’re a fan of Hessle (like we are), the opening tribal beats will make you reminisce those good ol’ days (raves). Hints of colour emerge with the addition of chimes, and paired spacey steel pan breaks, the cross-genre influence is apparent. Dyslecta turns up the heat with the ever-humming bass, before ramping up to a techno finish. NSMIX 004 | Dyslecta | 25.09.20

We’re excited to announce our latest guest; Bristol based, rave-scene legend, Borai. Part of the illusive group, Club Glow, alongside Denham Audio, L-Major and Mani Festo, the collective have certainly cemented their place nationally and internationally, pushing unique breakbeat rhythms, infused with a heavy 90’s jungle influence – which has been an integral part of Borai’s mixing DNA for the last 15 years in itself. Though jungle may be the main building block of Borai’s DJing style, years of behind the scenes work in local record stores has paved way for an eclectic track knowledge, including dark garage bangers and energetic dancehall heaters. 

As a producer, Borai’s sound spans from house, to hardcore, to (obviously) jungle, and 2018 saw rise to monumental track ‘Make Me’, produced with Denham Audio and released under self-managed label, Higher Level Records - which Mixmag ranked no. 16 out of the top 50 tracks of that year. Having released under a number of other labels, including Berlin-based Jackoff and Retrofit, as well as Argot Records’ internationally-focused sister label, Tasteful Nudes, based across the pond in the U.S., Borai’s monopoly in the scene has only gone from strength to strength over the years.

First releasing on Berlin-based @raiders_records 🍑 on Ghettoraid Vol. 1 back in February, and in June on @paceplayazsociety, it's safe to say he's had a busy year. Take Your Man being a truly standout track for us, which premiered on @bemorechildish in June.

At Noire State, we're all about pushing boundaries (especially whilst we're all stuck at home), and one person who's been doing that over 5000 miles away, in Seoul, is our next artist, @jucid_d. With the electronic music scene up and coming in the metropolis, we're excited to be entering double digits in our mix series with this half hour blast of Electro and Breaks.

@jucid_d has had a busy year despite COV1D setbacks, performing regularly for Cakeshop livestreams, as well as streams with @co_kr, and a recent livestream for SCR Radio which was received with positive reception, bringing her to the forefront of the underground scene in Seoul. Expect weapons from the likes of @kiddy-wav, @3phasesupply and @djtriggermode; a seriously high energy set to bring us into the weekend.

In keeping with the theme from last week, we're turning east again for NSMIX 011, with @djkatiecooper's 'Best of 2020'. Though originally a local gal to Manchester, Katie's since been living it up in Hong Kong, taking a taste of the UK electronic music scene over with her.

With a long list of coveted gigs to her name, Katie's been tearing up clubs half way round the world with energetic parties to the sounds of UK bass, grime and breaks; including a set at the famous Oil Club in Shenzhen, as well as multiple appearances in clubs across Tokyo, Osaka and Kochi in Japan. As the title suggests, Katie's brought along her favourite tracks of 2020 to this 45 minute mega-mix; featuring tracks from @sumgii, @skin0nskin, @djmarkblair and @kraejiyaeji, and much, much more.

NSMIX 011 | Katie Cooper | 22.01.21

Cancel your Friday night plans and strap up yer gear, cos this week we're off on a jungle adventure, brought to you by none other than Coco Bryce for NS Mix 012. Ok... so Breda in South Holland isn't quite the jungle, but the Dutch DJ/Producer/Label Boss/Snoopy's No. 1 fan has been prescribing the vibes since the 90's. Not to say he hasn't dabbled in multiple genres along the way, (including some stripped back garage and breakbeat bangers under alias 'Chavinski'), but more recently Bryce has been pioneering a new wave of jungle heat, with complex drum patterns and melancholic vocal samples for days.

Fresh off the back of his latest release 'Deep into the Jungle', over the years Coco Bryce has been dropping heater after heater under Lobster Theremin, 7th Storey Projects and Fresh 86, as well as self-releases from his own brand, Myor. With jungle making a resurgence over the last few years, Coco Bryce takes us on a journey through his own collection of jungle and breaks; there's plenty of uncharted territory to explore in this hour long mix. - @cocobrycebeats

If you'd told us a few months ago that we'd still be waiting for the chance to party it up in Sligo (post @jackballantynesc's mix), we wouldn't have believed you... but with travel restrictions still in place, we felt it was only right to bring the Sligo crew back over to Manny; introducing @ricky_chong for NS Mix 013, champion of all things disco and funk, with a vinyl collection bigger than your Kallax shelves can handle. Having grown up on his father's eclectic collection of funk, jazz and soul records, Ricky's musical influence covers a wide spectrum, ranging from forgotten 80's Disco, African Boogie, Funk, Soul, 90s Acid House and Deep House.

Harking back to pre-cov1d times, Ricky's had the privilege of supporting some of the industries finest, including local legend @kettamabro, @brame-hamo, @sallycberlin, @fjaak, @mallgrab, @paulwoolford and many more across various venues in Ireland, as well as multiple appearances as a resident DJ at FAINT. As a DJ, Ricky plays what he feels like playing and what sounds musically interesting to bring in various styles, moods and levels of energy... and it's definitely working, cos funky Friday's have never sounded better.
