A progressive electronic duo, formed in 2016 by seasoned beatsmith Tsuruda (Darker Than Wax, Team Supreme, Division) and experimental artist Huxley Anne (Dome of Doom/Alphapup), PAINT incorporates all aspects of both member’s creativity. The duo was inspired as the two were coming up in the LA beat scene, often adding visual elements to their live performances while writing genre-defying songs in the studio. Their style draws largely on abstract hip-hop, jazz, bass, and grime influences, but unites these elements into seamlessly painted soundscapes that stand out in the modern sea of electronic music. Their powerful rhythms, colored nuances, and expressive lead synth tones ignite in the PAINT live show, where you can often find the duo mashing custom visuals together while spinning tracks back to back.

“After years of writing together under our solo aliases, this EP has solidified a creative purpose—unifying musical production with a visual aesthetic to elevate electronic music into the realm of art. It also serves a social purpose, placing a man and a woman on equal footing within a technical environment where women are scarcely represented. Fighting against both genre and gender constructs drives our forward-thinking energy inside the musical structure.

When 20/20 LDN approached us about writing an EP, we were ecstatic. They’ve created a platform we value for both the visual aesthetic and their fearlessness in bridging genres within electronic music. For us, working with Ivy Lab on this release is directly in line with our goals of defying genre constructs in order to create art that lives beyond contemporary confines.

This EP is an intellectual apex for us, seeking to defy genres from within their technical and stylistic constructs. By combining sound design techniques from European bass music with the rebellious energy of the LA beat scene, we’ve entered a musical landscape that is not yet defined. The EP’s title, Exodus, represents our departure from genre-based music, opening up a new environment where sound design, aesthetic, synthesis, and culture have become modular tools for exploring the future of electronic production."

• MEADOWHILL MELODY was inspired by Lemon D's "Manhattan Melody" (and "Meadowhill" is the literal translation of the area of the city that I live in). Had to bring the keys and the Amen in! Going for a really full and loud "wall of sound" experience here. Who needs minimalism anyways. ha! 

• STAGES was inspired by old Krust. Tried to make it sound a bit old, crusty, and sh*tty instead of super-contemporary audio engineering megafeat. Minimal to maximal and back. 

File under "Not danceable", "Mom would not like this", "Weird artsy dnb / bass music too leftfield for dancefloor, charts, and media" and "Good for if you need to empty a dancefloor or a club".

A night of testing original, unreleased beats on a club soundsystem. Noise Test gives a platform to some of the most respected producers in the Drum & Bass game to come share their WIPs (work in progress) with us in a tasty environment which includes a heavy L'Acoustics sound system and a talented VJ team in the heart of Stoke's Croft. 

The rules are simple, the tracks have to be yours and unreleased! This has proven to be a great way to give the artists deadlines and dig up lost and forgotten tracks. Proves each time to be some of the most forward thinking, inspiring music that is well on par with the biggest tracks out there, if not better! ; P

West Coast electronic bass expert Tsuruda comes in full force with his visionary, low end heavy sound on his forthcoming album 'Unlimited Data' - set to drop via the artist's Courteous Family imprint on October 5.
