01 - Imminent Sensation Of Escape (Original Mix)

An established veteran in the world of sci-fi techno, the Swedish-born, Berlin-based Staffan
Linzatti arrives on From Another Star with a long legacy of accomplishments behind him. A trio of albums on Axis, Field Records, and Modularz, plus singles reaching back to the mid-2000s on respected sources like Stockholm LTD, Synewave, and many others places Linzatti in a rarefied realm of producers strongly dedicated to this particular style. ‘Journey Out’ launches the EP with a tone-setting trip towards the stars, a steady sequence pushing outwards while zaps and mysterious cosmic radiation suggest ominous events approaching. A tentative arrival at ‘Line Base’ establishes an orbit, the kick circling woozy accents in the bass and set against layers of drifting ambience and static. A rhythmic experiment named after its meter, ‘Seven’ emphasizes its asymmetry with heavily reverberated, insistent percussion, a forward, lopsided bass figure, and shuffling drums underlaid by uneasy drones. ‘Those Hands’ employs a marimba-like melody at its center surrounded by an array of alien sounds and set to a steady four beat pulse with shifting accents. With slowly pulsing bass, intermittent bleeps, and a sweeping, hollowed out, sustained synthesizer invading its middle, ‘Drawn Towards the Center’ is all details, occasional tinkling hits suggesting motion in a nebulous drift. ‘Infinites’ reaches even further out, this time with added propulsion, decaying melodies, and dramatic pad intrusions, sure signs that Linzatti’s infinite explorations continue unabated.

Staffan Linzatti - Far Field (Audio Previews)

Sometimes quality arises in strange places, and in Spain Asturias has proven this maxim. Both a cradle and a destination for top names like Reeko, Oscar Mulero, and more, it boasts a formidable history in Spanish techno. Hugo Rolan is another Asturian producer of similar mindset whose modesty conceals a long germination spent learning his craft precisely. A DJ in the local underground scene for decades, he emerged in 2022 rapidly releasing quality full lengths and EPs on respected imprints like Warm Up, Axis, Semantica, Nachtstrom Schallplatten, and many others. Holograma Humano displays his studied sound over eight tracks of science fiction themed techno, a perfect alignment for From Another Star. Following a short, searchingly dark intro, ‘Escritura Imparcial’ launches into a distinctly Spanish space age, with looped melodic and bass figures grounding decidedly more alien treatments in the percussion and upper registers. ‘Vacio Compartido’ explores strange fields of bleeps ricocheting in varying pitches across the stereo field, letting immersive detailing draw in the listener. A woozy deep space flight propelled by subtle changes in the hats, ‘Avance Cosmico’ gains momentum on its way through careful addition and intermixing of parts. The echoed vocals in ‘Cuadricula Terrestre’ immediately suggest classic sci-fi sounds, and Rolan delivers an immaculate homage to that style with revolving phasers, drifting pads, intermittent outbursts of delayed claps, and sporadic bleeps. After another dystopian interlude ‘Velocidad Inexacta’ returns to a lusher, layered soundscape as the groove slowly assembles from subtle changes in parts into a driving techno blast. ‘Sección Inicial’ voyages home on lush pad chord changes and funky interplay between bass & percussion, gradually pulling in for a smooth landing at the base.

One year on, I am so excited to share the recording of my set at Mo:Dem 2024, playing at The Seed stage 🌀💠🌀

My first experience of The Seed blew me away, opening new doorways in my mind and rewiring neural connections between genres and sonic sensations. Each stage at Modem @mo_dem is a universe of its own, and I felt completely at home at The Seed ~ a place for lucid dreaming and floating through the depths of space ✥

I played on Friday night from 11PM-2AM, slithering through subaquatic dubstep, spectral IDM, molten halftime and slinky psychedelic nighttime music of all shades ~

The set starts off propulsive, and as we descend into the night, the energy slowly evaporates, as The Seed shifts into a cocoon of pulsating luminescence for the late night hours. 

Thank you to @marcomental and @spekkiwebu for the invitation and inspiration. Returning to The Seed this year was equally special, it is now deeply nestled in my heart, and the recording of 2025’s set might also surface one day. But for now, I hope you enjoy this dive back to 2024 ~ three hours of psychedelic bass vibrations from the depths ✧｡⋆.

Following the reissue of his debut album Dispatches, Field Records is proud to return to the seminal work of Mike Parker with an overview of his releases on Prologue — a truly original strain of steely, hypnotic techno that has touched upon many diﬀerent waves within the wider scene.

Having pioneered a hard-edged, reductionist style via his Geophone label since the mid-90s, around 2010 Mike Parker found himself at the vanguard of an emergent sound alongside artists like Donato Dozzy and Cio D'or exploring the possibilities of immersive, profoundly transcendental club music. The Prologue label came to define this cult zeitgeist, where reduction and repetition took on a truly psychedelic quality and the subtle details made all the diﬀerence. It ran from 2008 to 2015, laying the foundations for the deep techno sound that remains a vital, evolving subculture in the present moment.

From Parker's first appearance on Prologue with the Subterranean Liquid EP in 2011 through to the Lustrations LP in 2013, he delivered some of the most incisive music of his accomplished career — teased-out rhythms carrying exquisitely engineered textures veering from the subliminal to the visceral, locked into endless, cyclical oblivion and maintaining a stern, machinist veneer. This collection on Field Records combs through Parker's Prologue output and makes a considered selection, gathering key pieces from the first two EPs alongside six of the album tracks on a triple vinyl pressing, alongside a further eight cuts on the expanded digital edition.

Not just a straight-forward reissue, consider Epilogue a thoughtful reframing of a key point in Mike Parker's stellar career. In every exacting pulse, every inch of tacit spatial design, it's the work of an expert sculpting a sound which remains influential in the here and now.

Our next mix comes from Montreal’s enigmatic DJ Frog. Dusty loops and crushed grooves are the highlight of this Doo Records mainstay. Her selections and productions flutter between the minimalist zones of house and dubby techno. It takes in a whole host of unreleased material from Cheeks, Hashman DJ and sometime studio collaborator SnP 500 and stays resolutely buried in swampy sonics and swirling dub undercurrents. Subtlety is key to how moods are built up, then fade away. There are no big moments, just a slow teasing of tension that grows ever more irresistible.

Upstairs Downstairs is a Naarm/Melbourne-based promoter "specialising in wubs & dubz in the club", but now for the first time bringing said wubz to life as a label. 'Anti Militarist Dubs' is a 4-track EP by London-based, Italian-born producer Big Hands, featuring a track by Naarm's own bass heavyweight Pugilist.

'Stolen Land', premiered here, is that very track. 

Undeniably club-focused, sitting between the edge of techno & bass music, 'Stolen Land' has a depth and space that has come to be one of Pugilist's many calling cards. Twisted polyrhythmic grooves and distorted percussion swirl across dubbed out vocals & low-end growls.
