Having some fun in The Lab Brushing the dust off a gorgeous 1969 Solartron JM1861 Pseudo Random Signal Generator... 

Made by blending a few layers of a lab sine oscillator being modulated by the weighted analog output of the 1861 at various probability distributions and clocking rates along with layers of various raw digital sequences fed through the built in low pass filter at various settings.  Recorded hot onto my much loved 1967 Mk III Revox G36 tube half-track 1/4" tape machine.

...and no, the noise isn't tape hiss.. :-]

1969 Solartron JM1861:  A Journey Into The Random...

enmossed is pleased to present 𝑬𝑵𝑴𝑺, a new cassette series curated by artist and perfumer Daisy Paradise, Florian T M Zeisig, and Glyn Maier. Releases consist of pairing an artist’s album with a plant of their choice and feature an interview - spoken or written - connected to the chosen plant. RJM Vanderheyden realized the series design beautifully with UV-etched, and color-matched cassettes and cases made from recycled materials, drawing upon a collection of rare botanical illustrations.

In the works for over a year, we are delighted to debut the first album of the series from long-time enmossed associate Chaperone - 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄, paired with chamomile and a chat between Daisy Paradise and Suzanne Belle Stone of Moon of Hyldemoer Herbals.

“Daisy Paradise tells us that when a plant is taken out of its comfort zone, its growth adapts to new and challenging conditions. Its properties change: they incorporate the difficulty and beauty of its foreign surroundings. Chaperone trawls the dusty grooves of bossa nova LPs, extracting forgotten melodies and re-contextualizing them into an indeterminate industrial churn. A boscagic echo rendered into a miniature plastic flower, partially submerged in a puddle alongside crumbling asphalt.

Suzanne Belle Stone reminds us that, while we obsess over the rare, we fail to honor and celebrate the gifts of the common - that’s why we tend to undermine the strength and the subtlety of the ever-present chamomile. Chaperone repeats a sound, looping it, making it common. An abundance of multiplicities that create a new temporality, helping us quiet our mind. Chamomile is quiet, chamomile listens. A flower that likes to grow in large groups, in community, surrounded by its own repetitions.

𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 is a dense hive of loops spreading their subtleties and becoming common through the air, a rooting system weaving an all-enveloping sea of electric dust under which we listen, as in a dream, to the static effervescence of a swarm of chamomile seeds. Each of these seeds contains a tiny sun and a tiny moon. Plants come to you when you need them.”

David Coccagna (Chaperone) is a Queens-based writer and musician focusing primarily on transgressive human behavior, poverty, class division, and addiction. Born and raised in Philadelphia, the principle imagery and sonic influences of the depressed Northeast neighborhood Lawncrest has served as the palette and canvas Coccagna works upon. He has released worked with labels Great Circles, Jungle Gym, Con.apt, and Minor Adjustments, with more recent focuses leaning into repetitive sound and theme. He is an avid cyclist and has two cats.

This is a recording of a live solo performance on clarinet and soprano saxophone at the City Kirche in Koblenz, Germany on 27. March 2015. I played to a six-channel sound installation of my electroacoustic work that had been on all day. Free improvised music is what I'm up to these days, mostly solo, mostly soprano, and I'm beginning to record in places that offer interesting acoustics. The City Church does not have interesting, but fantastic acoustics, and the installation / performance project will be documented as an album on my label trente oiseaux.

It was about time! Over a year since my last Dub & Bass mix—and meanwhile, my record crates and hard drive have been piling up with bass-heavy treasures waiting to blast out.
So here it is: the first new drop. Stay sharp—there’s plenty more coming (I’m sitting on over 100 unreleased bangers).
This mix kicks off at a steady 80 BPM, halftime vibes to ease you in… but don’t get too relaxed. The tempo ramps up quickly—before you know it, you're flying at 160 BPM, diving headfirst into wild Jungle and Drum & Bass escapades.
As always: heavy dub FX, deep subs, and full pressure guaranteed.
Had a blast crafting this live—raw and unpolished, just how it should be.

One after another…
Just dropped Vol. 32 end of June — and here we go again: dub and bass vol.33 is already live for early July.

Back at it with a fresh blend of dubby jungle and halftime vibes. Sometimes mellow, sometimes driving. Vocals drift in and out, FX bubbling all over, a touch of reggae here and there — deep, bass-heavy, and echo-laden as always. Around 170 BPM… or just half that, depending on how you count 😉

Plenty more to come: Vol. 34, 35 and 36 are already lined up — packed with new tunes, waiting to get mixed live & direct.

📦 Finally cracking open my old CD archive… and this dusty jewel still plays like a charm after 25 years.
I originally made this mix for my groovy old B-Kadett, fitted with a proper subwoofer – perfect for long autobahn rides.
That’s where the name comes from: Electric Highway.

The mix starts off smooth and mellow, then steadily picks up speed: funkier, deeper, wilder.
Raw breakbeats, smoked-out triphop, big beat pressure and leftfield grooves set the pace.
But toward the end, things get seriously charged – pushing into technoid nu skool breaks territory with serious drive and bass pressure.

Ata Kak's first new song in over 30 years!

Ata Kak created a peculiar slice of Ghanaian music history with his debut album “Obaa Sima”. While it barely made a ripple at the time of its release in 1994, the cassette found a new life online in 2006. A not-so-underground cult obsession grew after it appeared on  the blog Awesome Tapes From Africa as its very first post, a sort of manifesto for the project. His addictive amalgam of left-field electronic music and Twi-language hiplife reached surprising levels of awareness among music fans of many stripes. The mystery behind the musician’s identity grew. Eventually Yaw Atta-Owusu came out of the shadows, from his quiet home in Kumasi, to tour the world playing high-energy, sweat-soaked performances at major festivals like Glastonbury, Sónar and Pop Montreal. 

Now, for the first time since 1994, Ata Kak releases new music. Honed in studios around Kumasi over the last several years, the songs feature the rapper-singer’s acrobatic rap, signature scatting, dramatic drums and even traditional Akan harp. The compositions are more ambitious than his earlier work, with more complex arrangements and layered harmonies. Ata Kak’s new songs are also the natural expression of a restless artist—he is a prolific poet and author of a half-dozen books, as well as an active gardener and busy painter. 

Born in Ghana in 1960, Ata Kak wasn’t always involved in music. But his travels and openness to the world lead him into the music industry. While living in Germany, he was invited to play drums in a reggae band and subsequently played in highlife bands in Ontario after moving to the Toronto area. He recorded “Obaa Sima” there at his home studio and released it in Ghana in 1994. He didn’t participate in music much in the intervening years until “Obaa Sima” was reissued in 2015. He started performing his song live with the help of a brilliant cast of London-based musicians and has toured three continents and played to thousands of fans in venues of all kinds.

Fresh out of the session – 30 brand-new tracks, recorded live and direct, no edits, just pure vibes. As always, all hands on the controllers, effects in full effect, deep dub echoes, and heavy bass pressure.

This one starts slow and deep at around 80 BPM, soaked in dub atmospheres. From there it grooves up through rolling dub riddims and steppers into the 125 BPM zone, before heading into full dubstep and bass weight at 140 BPM. Expect some halftime switches, deep head-nodding moments, and plenty of sub-driven experiments towards the end.
