Moreno Zenon Psytech set

Started this year setting an intention to put more time and energy into exploring creatively, and give DJing a proper crack and so super stoked to have had Esoteric Festival as a playground for those explorations!

Was invited to play some tunes at an awesome up and coming theme camp, the Magic Mothership. Performed this set on a dusty Sunday Arvo, hoping to offer some laidback daytime techno as a soundtrack for the Mothership's cosmic travellers to dust off their bones after Saturday night's adventures in the Esoverse and wind back into the day. Grateful for a supportive and caring crew, and for the folks who stopped by for a mid arvo boogie. 

I've loved diving deep on music and understanding energetic flow, and definitely still learning n growing -- but am excited for the process and keen to put my energy into this journey.

Psychedelic Techno - Nowadays quite a buzzword, since more and more Psy and Progressive Trance producers came up with a technoish side project. Yet the actual idea of Psychedelic Techno goes back further, and differs from the somewhat slow and clubby approach of many recent productions: Around 2000, acts like Spirallianz and Midi Miliz (today known as Extrawelt) or X-Dream merged deep and psychedelic sounds into hard, pumping Techno rhythms. Although this genre never became mainstream, it never vanished - which brings us to Alic. 
 
Since 2002, Alic keep up the original idea of Psychedelic Techno. In form of their passionate studio and live project, in form of their popular netlabel Digital Diamonds (founded in 2006) and formerly as A&Rs of Horns & Hoofs Entertainment. All these commitments strive to combine Psy-Trance and Progressive Techno in a fresh and innovative way, but without the drag of getting too clubby or too minimal.

With a long background in producing electronic music and performing as DJs, Alic are one of the most promising artists in the progressive Techno- and TechTrance-scene nowadays. Tomasz (Atmos) has had a huge impact on my musical sensibilites ever since I first heard his album Headcleaner. When the opportunity came up to bring him to Calgary for an intimate gathering of 150 firends in a beautiful art gallery space with a killer Pk sound system, I had to make it happen. After months of navigating one roadblock after another, the event finally was a go and it was an incredible night of awesome music and fantastic friends.

Ensuring that I had the dancefloor grooving when handing it over to Tomasc was a top priority. Rather than play a set of Zenonesque style psytrance, I chose to go with a more clubby sound that would suit the venue and the music to follow mine. This is a live recording of my set and I'm sporting a big goofy grin as I give it a listen and remember the packed crowd of smiling people. I hope you can hear the enjoyment coming through loud and clear.

With meticulously selected and expertly woven sonic gems, the Nokturnal sound covers a wide range of psychedelica. His true skills are unleashed however when taking a trance floor from the deeper, groovier, more hypnotic soundscapes of PsyTech, PsyBreaks and Progressive Psy, all the way to the mind-bending bliss of driving, soul-vibrating Dark Progressive Psytrance.

Swapping his ice climbing gear for a Gemini UMX9 mixer and a pair of Tech 12 turntables in the late 1990’s, in no time Darvin was a regular performer at some of the largest North American festivals such as Shambhala, Motion Notion and Burning Man. It was not long before he was playing peak-time sets alongside international headliners as an artist for Zenon Records at gatherings as far away as Boom Festival, Portugal, numerous clubs in Goa, India, in Byron Bay, Australia, and closer to home at both Symbiosis in California, and Eclipse Gathering in Quebec.

His hit V/A compilation and DJ mix Sea of Vapours on Zenon Records was voted the #2 Progressive Psytrance compilation release of the year on Isratrance, and his DJ mix Zenonesque charted at #3 on Beatport.com out of over 3500 mixes of all genres. Currently the driving force behind PurePsyence Events (which includes the annual outdoor PurePsyence Gathering along with Night Flight club nights and streaming events), Nokturnal’s passion for rocking the Zenon groove in North America and abroad has been… relentless. In 2021 Nokturnal joined Techgnosis Records, home to some of the best PsyTech being produced today which makes it a deadly addition to the Zenon arsenal.
